As the title suggests, I have an alien who needs a job. He is rich, and travels from planet to planet. He also owns many houses around his galaxy, and good social connections. Whenever I try to think of a job the only thing that comes to my mind is mailman (like Futurama) or drug dealer, but neither of those fit the personality. Please help!
Intergalactic man of mystery (spy). Hitman (as a hobby) Insurance investigator (so they CLAIM pirates blew up their habitats...) Son of an industrialist turned environmentalist (that impresses the chicks...) Giant robot mechanic FTL drive technician (most people have no clue how cars really work; planets might have no clue how to fix engines) Porn Star (considered an art on most worlds) Pirate (he was a really successful dashing romantic one; has connections cuz he bought politicians)
I second the FTL Drive Tech and Terraforming Specialist ideas.
The latter would REQUIRE residences on the various planets, if his specialty is developing ecosystems; work could keep him on one planet for years at a time.
There was a pretty good discussion of how to develop ecosystems on a terraformed planet in the webcomic Free Fall, but I'd have to do an archive trawl to find it.
