Welcome to SciFi! I am Tresa, one of your moderators once again. We just have a few ground rules to lay out before we get started.
1. Be awesome to each other- No wank. Direct, personal attacks will be dealt with immediately and you will not enjoy the outcome. 1a. Have fun! 2. Please stay on topic. This is a bit nebulous (hah!) but try and stay within the thread's general idea. 3. Please utilise the overhead threads. We know that a lot of people need help sorting their stories out (epic 'is my story scifi threads' every year) but please, for the sake of organisation check before posting to make sure that your question doesn't have an overhead thread. 4. BACK UP YOUR NOVELS. Seriously. The computer uprising will eat your novel. Resistance is useless.

Please use the overhead thread list to inquire about your novel. The thread you are looking for is here. Please take some time to cruise around the forums and look at other people's posts as an idea of how to use the forum. I hope you enjoy your stay with us. Happy novelling!
PS: You have aliens, so that's pretty much a shoe-in for science fiction. :D
Think of it this way. If we created a sticky for every single subgenre, the entire first page would consist of purely subgenre topics. Wrimos posting new threads would get bumped automatically to the second page, and their new topics would be sadly missed. In short, I can't sticky all the subgenres (that's why I created this header post). But that is also my reasoning why.
Scifi is just so big and we have so mant different subgenres that it just isn't feasible. Make sense?
Well, something for the techies: Maybe it would be nice to be able to make subforums. That way you could have a forum under the different genres for specific subgenres.
Ex.
Sci-Fi forum Welcome thread (sticky) Subgenre forum (sticky) Subgenre1 thread Subgenre2 thread Etc. Other threads going as usual
I don't know if that's possible with the current software, but it might be a good idea.
Because Nanowrimo is a self-imposed challenge, you don't have to send your finished document anywhere. There will be a word count verification going up during the last week of November, but nano.org does not hold onto your document.
What you do with your novel is totally up to you. You can print it out and have a bonfire with all your friends while they ooh and ahh over your writing prowess. You could hide it away on your computer and only look at it in moments of great weakness. You could polish it and send it into an editor. Totally up to you.
I think Paranormal should be added as a sub genre. Romance has it in theirs but I've not seen it in sci fi and there has to be some vampire, witch, were, or shape shifter stories out there that have no romance plot in them. But if not, I certainly do and it doesn't fit into your list as it stands now.

Re: Welcome To SciFi [FAQs and Rules]
Could we pin the sub-genre threads somehow at the top of the page? It would make them much easier to find, once the whole game here really gets going.

Re: Welcome To SciFi [FAQs and Rules]
I believe there is a tech advice forum floating around here somewhere. I'm sure you can make the suggestion there!
Re: Welcome To SciFi [FAQs and Rules]
Where do you send finished Novels to?

Re: Welcome To SciFi [FAQs and Rules: Updated 11/03/11]
The other Sci-Fi forums don't want to let me post in them. Any idea why or how I can?
Re: Welcome To SciFi [FAQs and Rules: Updated 11/03/11]
Never mind. It let me post after I posted here.
