I'm in this boat, and I know many of you are as well. At just over 37,122 words, I'm only now about to reach a major plot event that will set up the entire rest of the story. I'll likely reach 50k, yes, but the novel will be far from finished at that point.
I'm aiming to get about 60k by the end of November and about 100k by the end of December. Who else has similar plans?
Me! December is probably unreasonable for finishing, with all the family and holiday tasks that fall to me in that month. (You look like a student. More power to you on finishing in December.)
But 50K will get me deep into the story without even getting close to the two major climax events (one being a repercussion of the first event), and I've got to wind things up. Aaargh.

I'm almost half-way through the word-count (Lost a few days this last week)...but there is absolutely no way this thing will even be close to finished by the end of the month. It will hit 150k easily, and I think it may well go even farther than that.
Wow, just hit the 50k mark today. I'm doing he said/ she said, alternating chapters. I'm not even a third of the way done working on the 'she' chapters, planning on writing the 'he' chapters after that was completed. So I'm going to be working on this one for a while!
Good to see I'm not alone! 30k in, and my MCs have only just arrived on planet Tebras VI... xP I'm just worried that after November, I'll stop writing - and then my novel might die a half-finished death! :( I'll just have to be extra sure not to let that happen... anyone else in this boat? :/ Are you going to keep writing through-out December with a set goal?

I'm in that boat, too. I've been worrying about that all week, actually. I think I'm going to try for 30k or so in December. I'll need some motivation to keep writing, though... :P
I've still got a lot more to write to get this story finished. It'll probably be another 10-20k minimum, I'm guessing. It's a bit hard to tell exactly how much more I've got to write. For all I know it won't be finished at 100k. I'm hoping it will be though.
I'm writing a trilogy, which means that if I alot each part 30k, i should be done at 90k. since the second part in the end did not reach the intended mark, but stoped at 22k, i'm moving my end goal to 80k. that's just 20k away, and i hope to reach it before december reaches me.
Yeah, at the pace things are turning up, I won't be done at 50K. I'm glad, though. If I had to know how will my novel end, I would not be able to reach the goal at all.
I'm at 50,000 now and my story has barely even started! I did intend on this being a stand-alone 80k novel, but if i were to carry with the stand-alone, I could easily make it reach the 250k mark, if not more. I thought that was a tad unreasonable, so with my 3 main sub-plots and 1 main plot to tie in, I'm thinking a trilogy, or even a four-piece saga.
ME! ME! I'm at 53K and have just implemented the serial killer team's move on two of my characters. Still trying to find a way to kill another detective giving me a pain in the butt.
Same here! Glad there's a club for this. I was starting to worry that I was rambling..? I devoted time to a short prologue, and thoroughly moving my characters from their norm to the new situation. You know how characters rebel against you... To my surprise I discovered that my main character was far more resistant to losing life as she knew it than I thought she'd be. Now they're definitely moving along, but they're far from the crisis.
Don't know about finishing before next year - this is definitely a rough draft! I've got a lot of 19th century research to complete - on weapons, steamships, etc., and I'd like to refine my narrative - make it jump off the page a little more. The voice is overly passive right now.
I have problems with finishing novels. As soon as I'm about to get to an intended plot point I'll think of something and put that in. My prolougue-which is most definetely NOT prolougue size-is over 12.5k long. And my villain isn't evil enough yet. He's kind of a villain because he's against the good guy but has good intentions for the world. Unfortunately, this means he needs to see bad stuff that's happened because of my main character. Total of stuff bad happened because of my main character: 0, maybe 1 if you count something. Total number of words so far: 55 134
Definitely won't finish at 50K. At 38 (exactly 38k!) the characters are in place and the forthcoming action has been set up, but the main body of the plot is just about to begin. If all the action is climactic, it may end at 80k, but if it pans out the way it's suppoesd to, I reckon 100-105k. Now I just have to get it written down! :D
When i started this, again I had no idea what (if any) kind of plot would evolve. Somehow characters keep appearing and re-appearing and all of a sudden I have sub-plots. I already also know several things I have to add to the already existing story, but refinement is for later, right now i'm much more interested in how it'll all turn out. and 50 k probably won't cover that. And guess what? I'm glad it doesn't. Simply because I can continue to visit my written world a while longer than i thought ;)
Oh, gosh. I would have finished in 50,000 but one of my minor characters decided to try to steal the object of power in my story and try to take over the world. I hadn't counted on another villian in my story!
I just hope that I can keep working to get to 50k by the end of the month! I still have a few thousand to catch up!
I've passed 50k and I'm nowhere near down. My new goal is to finish by the end of the year, but I know this thing is going to be 100k at the very least.
The "My Novel Definitely WON'T Be Done At 50,000 Words" Shoutout!

Can we still validate at 50,000 words even if the story isnt finished? XDD

Not near done, but near 50,000. Yippee! But Ann still has a lot of growing and adventures.

Me! My MCs just got to Africa. They have no idea what;s going on. No way will this be over in 50k.

My plan is to get at least 35k in December. I'll have to make sure my husband keeps me motivated, like he's doing this month.

That's a good plan :) I know that I won't be able to do another 50k in December, but something less might be achievable :)
