This year is my first NaNo attempt, and I just validated with a word count of 50,360.
These last couple of days, today especially, I didn't think I was going to make it. My brain feels so fried! Haha!
But I persevered! I kept writing and somehow found another 3,000 words and it was enough to push me over the 50k mark. I hit 50k! Un-freaking-believable!!
My novel still needs a lot (a LOT) of work, and I'm hoping to get in another 10k at least by Nov. 30th., but... I did it! I really did it!!
...And now I think I'm going to reward myself with a nice hot shower and then do something completely and utterly mindless, 'cause the braincells are on strike for the rest of the night!
I finished with 50,220 before midnight, but I didn't know anything about verifying my word count. I have only updated. Where do I verify my word count or is it too late because it is after midnight?

Check with the NaNo mods...see if they have a method for the folks who missed the validator (I don't know if they do, but...) It doesn't matter- You guys ROCKED the word count and you know you won! I think you'll be able to put the little winner's star on your profile next year... it's usually done manually. Good job!
Thanks Ramblejack, for the advice and the praise. well done to you to. I emailed nanowrimo and here's the response:
I'm sorry that you were unable to validate your novel! We can still manually validate if you finished your novel this November.
In order to do so, please follow the instructions below:
1. Save your novel in a document or text file that you can attach to an email. (OPTIONAL: Feel free to scramble it if you'd like. Instructions here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/faq/word-count#scramble) 2. Attach that document to an email you send to Heather Dudley (heather_dudley@nanowrimo.org) 3. Include your USERNAME in the subject line.
If you email us after the 5th, we may not be able to give you access to your winner's goodies, but we will be able to mark your profile as a winner. If you're looking forward to your winner's goodies, make sure to email us before the 5th.
We know that you're eager to flaunt your status as someone who wrote a novel in 30 days, as well you should be, but if you'd allow us 48 hours to make the change (we get a lot of these requests!), we would very much appreciate your patience.
Thank you, and congratulations again. Please know that the office is celebrating your achievement: there's some soft-shoe going on, the trumpets are being busted out, and hands are being heartily shaken. We're so proud to be a small part of your creative triumph.
First time, and I actually got 50k!!! I definitely didn't think I could make it. I actually had to hide the word counter so I wouldn't compulsively check my word count every ten minutes. And now my novel is asking me to finish it up, so I guess I'll just go do that...
My first NaNo. I did compulsively check every ten minutes. But when you pull 10,220 words in one day you finally stop because checking every ten minutes makes you a little nuts.Tonight ... a nice dinner. If I can drag the significant other out from under the car.
This was my first year, too. I love writing, and deeply appreciate the thoughtfulness of the person who recommended NaNo to me (Sadly, she didn't even try. I was looking forward to friendly competition!). Somehow, though, I pulled out 50,000 words and now look forward to finishing (and editing) my ever-expanding novel. :-)
This is my second year and I won last year too. I got off to a slow start but just hit 51K 20 minutes ago. More to go to finish my Mystery ending, but almost there and I'll validate more at the last minute tomorrow night to get my number up more.
Won did it using crafty schemes that fit my liteary mode as lots of stories sub plots etc. Good to win but loads of work as only 1/6th of doing a proper Literary First Draft.
My first time too. Just finished about a few minutes ago. It feels so good. 50,079 I I think? Yep. I didn't finish the novel but I got 50,000 words so that's all that matters. Congrats to everyone else, even those who didn't make it. Trying is an achievement in of itself.
It's the first of December here. And nano is finally over. I finished with 54075 words and I feel so relieved. Congratulations to all who participated. It's not about if you've won but the fact that you tried it is awesome. If you've won it's just the icing on the cake
Be warned: you'll have to validate again today to get the winners' goodies, like the Scivener discount and stuff. You have to validate between the 25th and the 30th to win.
Do not forget to validate your novel to get that little purple ribbon that says you are a WINNER!!! and don't forget your little WINNER certificate.... Congrats!
This is my first year and I am so happy that i can say that i'm a winner! I validated at 50,034 two days ago and i nearly cried while watching the short 'Congrats' clip :') I still have a long way to go before my novel is actually finished though. But for now, I need to catch up on all my shows i missed this month! Happy writings, NaNos!
I got teary watching it myself. lol. I printed my certificate and hung it up at work, to remind myself that maybe answering phones won't be my whole career some day. ;)
This is my first NaNo i reached 50,586 words lat night, surprisinly i beat my frined who stayedon track the whole month and i was behind from week 2... LOl i feel so happy!
Would love to say I made the deadline first time round, but I haven't, it's been amazing none the less and a huge shout out to anyone who managed, especially if you're in school at the same time, hats off to ya' I have no idea how you do it. Well Done :) x
Finished 50k early Saturday morning (about 1, to be specific), and continued to write another 5000 since then. and i still have three chapters to write XD
I think this is my fifth year and I finally hit 50k words despite having found out that I have a terrible excuse of a climax. :( Hoping to rewrite it soon! Also completed three master's credits this month as well. No social life! lol.
This is my third NaNo, and I only got here because a good wrimo friend of mine refused to leave me behind a couple days ago. I tried to wave him on and tell him to go on without me but he stuck with me and motivated me back across enemy lines. :) And it feels great to win! We did it guys! We wrote 50000 words! (or more) Metaphorical high fives all around!
Thought I should remind you before it's too late! Don't forget to validate your word count by going to 'edit my novel' under 'my nanowrimo' and copying and pasting all that text!
Great to see so many winners! This was my first attempt and I decided that not finishing was not an option! Thanks to the support of my family and friends, I did it!
My first NaNo and I won! I'm so happy - I wrote 5K on Monday, and finally 10K yesterday just to catch up. O________O It was madness.
But ultimately I won some things that are better than my nifty certificate: I'll be revising my book for publishing (!!) and my author husband got back into the habit of writing everyday, since I made him write with me. ;-)
Rizuzua wrote: I did finish it but it won't let me update it..thanks for shooting my novel in the foot guys. :/
I sent you a PM in case you don't see this post, but for anyone who is having trouble validating, there is a link to a post that appears elsewhere in this Forum about late validations. They can do it for you manually.
First timer here too! The reward for me was actually writing down 50,000 words down, and actually finishing a day early! Also, the Great Muppet Caper is my current reward.
Being 12k behind 3 days away from the end of the month made me nervous, but thanks to sick days (and not really thanks, cause I actually was sick) I got it done!
I won, but my brain was fried and for a little while I thought I wouldn't make it because I couldn't figure out where to go with my story, I just kept having them do mundane stuff, but I made the word count, with a lot of revisions, I think it could be great, but I did learn that I got to do alot more research.
1st NaNo, 1st NaNo win, 60K final total, very happy and blessed to have had this experience in self-discovery at age 54. (I first typed 52, and then I remembered that was my character's age!)
50,005! As of five (!) minutes ago! However, that's in my MS Word counter--I'm gonna need at least 1000 more to validate in nano's word counter; but that's no problem--I'm still a few chapters from the end yet.
I finished my plot around 20k.... (this is my first Nano) And that really sucked for me, so I had to go back and add a bunch of stuff, and now, I think it killed my book. Completely changed the whole story line.... Even changed the genre.
Yaye, 50k done! Then the only thing left to do is validate the novel ( i still have to find out how that works) and to write on until the story is finished. Let's see if I can do both during november ;) Congratulations to all who finished afore me and all who will be finishing in the next weeks.
I got to 50k on November 15, and this is my first NaNo, so I am super proud of myself! WOOHOO! I still can't believe I was able to handle all my schoolwork, my activites that I couldn't give up, and explaining just exactly what I was doing to friends/family with out going (completely) insane!
The only downside to this is that I still have a hell of a lot more story to write. *sigh* But I don't care! I DID IT! I ACTUALLY DID IT! WOOT!
To chris_is_a_dinosaur, your profile pic is awesome. I love it, and being nerdy, and especially Domo. You just made my morning! =D
My first year doing NaNo, and I broke though the 50,000 barrier today with 51,830 words! Still got 7 more chapters and about 20,000 words to write to complete my novel, but I'm so pleased!
So I thought I'd have a quick SHOUT on this forum!!
Congratulations to everyone else who's made it through the 50,000 word barrier!
I just made it to 50k today too! It feels amazing! I remember starting the month wondering if I'd ever make it here, but it turns out it was a lot more manageable than I'd thought, and even more fun too. Although I've still got a lot more to write to actually complete my novel, so I've got to get right back to writing!
I'm not finished yet as I'm journaling all the way to the end of the month, but I hit 50k today! I'd hit on the 15th last year, so this is exciting! Now i need to make it past 55k to officially write more than I've ever written before. SO EXCITING, guys! :D
You think YOU started adding random crazy things? My storry started out about a girl that fell in love with a ghost, and then by the end of the month, it was about a war between the ninjas and the mermaids. Talk about plot FAIL. Congrats BTW!
I hit 50k but I may or may not have to call it quits for a while. College work is sadly going to be a bitch this end of the month and into December x.x Novel isn't finished though and I don't intend to stop working on it. I want those five free copies 8D
And the even better news is that I realized somewhere around 49.5k that what I had planned was all wrong, that the foreshadowing in the book really led to another path, and that this one actually has an ending :D
50k!!

Re: 50k!!
50,014. :) This is my... um... 4th NaNo, but the only one during which I haven't had major life stuff happen in the middle of... and so my first win.
Re: 50k!!
My fourth time trying too! And I finally finished. :-) Feels good.
Re: 50k!!
Congrats! XD
Don't forget to verify your wordcount!

Re: 50k!!
Go to "edit novel info" under My Nanowrimo and click the link that says you're ready to verify.
Re: 50k!!
I'm in the same boat I tried that but there doesn't seem to be a link.
Re: 50k!!
Me, as well. Looks like I'm waiting until next year... Ha ha.

Yes!!! I made it! I am afraid the result is my worst novel in any NaNoAttempt, but I am still incredibly proud I made it against all odds!
Bubblies here I come!!
Re: 50k!!
I'm in the same boat. first time and I validated with 50,113 yesterday.
It sounds like you and I are both still working towards finishing the novel by the end of the month.
Congrats on winning and good luck on finishing!
Re: 50k!!
50, 078 words. the last word I typed was "over." Ha, I wish...I'm far from done, but it'll work for tonight ;) I think that I deserve a drink.

Thank you and congrats to you, too. I'm also a first timer and it is an amazing feeling to know I did it! Lots still to do, but still very happy. :)

My 50,000 word-die. lol
Re: 50k!!
Being 12k behind 3 days away from the end of the month made me nervous, but thanks to sick days (and not really thanks, cause I actually was sick) I got it done!
Re: 50k!!
I didn't quite make it to 5K.... but i will keep finishing until next year! do you win once you validate a novel with 5K or more words?
Re: 50k!!
Angel, you need 50K to win, actually. Not 5K.
Re: 50k!!
I won, but my brain was fried and for a little while I thought I wouldn't make it because I couldn't figure out where to go with my story, I just kept having them do mundane stuff, but I made the word count, with a lot of revisions, I think it could be great, but I did learn that I got to do alot more research.
Re: 50k!!
First try First Win
Re: 50k!!
1st NaNo, 1st NaNo win, 60K final total, very happy and blessed to have had this experience in self-discovery at age 54. (I first typed 52, and then I remembered that was my character's age!)
Re: 50k!!
My second year, and second win! Yaaay!
Next Goal= Actually finishing the book.
Re: 50k!!
Good luck with that!
Re: 50k!!
Yay! Good Job! It's my first try and first win. None of my other friends won though, it's kind of lonely up here in the winner's circle.
Re: 50k!!
This was my first time, and I reached and finished at 50,009. Yay!
Re: 50k!!
I finished my plot at exactly 50,086 words.
I'm so good. xD
This is my second NaNo and I had a relatively short plot this time.
Re: 50k!!
Way to go!
Re: 50k!!
50,005! As of five (!) minutes ago! However, that's in my MS Word counter--I'm gonna need at least 1000 more to validate in nano's word counter; but that's no problem--I'm still a few chapters from the end yet.
Word 50,000: "bread."
Re: 50k!!
I finished my plot around 20k.... (this is my first Nano) And that really sucked for me, so I had to go back and add a bunch of stuff, and now, I think it killed my book. Completely changed the whole story line.... Even changed the genre.
Re: 50k!!
Just his 50,010! Not finished yet. Time to go wrap the book up! Woohoo! Congrats everyone!
Re: 50k!!
Keep up the awesome work!
Re: 50k!!
I'm at 50k too! Still got to write a lot more to finish the story, but I've hit 50k! Congrats to everyone else!
Re: 50k!!
Hello, I'm here, I have 50K too =D Yay!
Re: 50k!!
Yaye, 50k done! Then the only thing left to do is validate the novel ( i still have to find out how that works) and to write on until the story is finished. Let's see if I can do both during november ;)
Congratulations to all who finished afore me and all who will be finishing in the next weeks.
Re: 50k!!
You guys are seriously machines being able to write it all so quickly! :D

50K! I just want to say: WOOOOH! I feel awesome! I still have so much more to do it's unbelieveable though....

Re: 50k!!
At 78K do you still have a lot to write? I got my 50K but I still need to write 20K to 30K to finish it.
Re: 50k!!
Yeah, people like him make me feel worthless. I've seen people with 100+K saying that they still have a ways to go...

I just made it to 50k today too! It feels amazing! And I still don't know how long this story is going to be...
Re: 50k!!

Feels really good.
Re: 50k!!
I CANNOT BELEIVE I MANAGED IT! I'M AT THE CLIMAX, MY MC'S JUST BEEN SHOT!
Re: 50k!!
Omg! That's intense! Please tell me you didn't quit writing after THAT? What happened next?
Re: 50k!!
50,001! I started skipping around crazily and adding random things. Story isn't done, but I got to 50k! :D Congrats everyone!

Way to go! 50 001 words-take about close!
Ah, that frustrating moment when you hit 50k and you're no where near finished :)
Re: 50k!!
You think YOU started adding random crazy things? My storry started out about a girl that fell in love with a ghost, and then by the end of the month, it was about a war between the ninjas and the mermaids. Talk about plot FAIL. Congrats BTW!
Re: 50k!!
I just hit 50,000 words!
NOW I CAN PEE!!!!
-runs hectically around bedroom!-
Re: 50k!!
LOL!
Re: 50k!!
BEST. RESPONSE. EVER.
Re: 50k!!
I hit 50k but I may or may not have to call it quits for a while. College work is sadly going to be a bitch this end of the month and into December x.x Novel isn't finished though and I don't intend to stop working on it. I want those five free copies 8D
Re: 50k!!
Eep! Sweet victory.
And the even better news is that I realized somewhere around 49.5k that what I had planned was all wrong, that the foreshadowing in the book really led to another path, and that this one actually has an ending :D
