Hello to everyone participating in NaNoWriMo 2011,
My name is Pomke and I am the co-creator of a new kind of online writing software for authors and writers of all kinds called PangurPad. We are proud to be an official sponsor of NaNoWriMo 2011 and we’d love for you to come and take a look at what we have to offer Wrimos this year.
We have created PangurPad to provide amazing tools with a unique, integrated community and review system so that you can write, review with your peers and publish all in one place – backed up online.
PangurPad is a fully equipped web-based editor and publishing tool designed to work in most modern web browsers. Don’t let that fool you, PangurPad is just as capable as deskstop writing software; even more so because if your computer crashes you don’t lose a thing with your entire manuscript, notes, timeline and more saved on the PangurPad servers.
PangurPad also provides a uniquely integrated community of writers at your fingertips. Join or even create communities and share your drafts with the community for peer review, or just chat about the art of writing with other writers in communities that interest you.
The PangurPad Editor You probably want to know what we have to offer. The answer is, quite a few things:
Free access to PangurPad for NaNoWriMo 2011 participants to write your novel! It’s hard to beat free right? Simply sign up and verify you are a real 2011 Wrimo participant and you’ll have access to all of our great tools and unique community. You’ll get your very own profile where you can tell the world about yourself, share your writing, have it reviewed by your peers – and publish it on your website, blog, Facebook, Amazon, take it to a publisher, anything!
A portion of any full memberships prior to the end of Nov will be donated to NaNoWriMo! One of the awesome things about NaNoWriMo is that it’s totally free to participate; the Office of Letters and Light run such a wonderful event that we couldn’t help but become a sponsor. So, we’ve decided that for every 2011 Wrimo who signs up for a full membership to PangurPad before the end of December, we’ll give five percent of that to the OLL as well!
Extra love for your hard working Municipal Liaisons with %50 off! Yes, we love them too. MLs are the hard-working volunteers out there in each region running local events, cheering on their fellow Wrimos and ensuring everyone is having a great time. As a special show of appreciation to these amazing people we are offering a %50 discount on full membership to any ML who cares to take up the offer!
So come and see what all the fuss is about for yourself! Getting started with PangurPad is simple. Head over to pangurpad.com and sign up – be sure to check the ‘I’m a Wrimo’ box on the registration form and follow the instructions. See you there!
Never mind. I figured it out. Folks who are having trouble, the user ID isn't a number, it's the name of your ID. Not the whole address, just the part that identifies you--for me, "starshadow" without the quotes. I look forward to trying it out. Thanks.
I started using PangurPad about a week ago... And I LOVE IT!
The uploading your work on the go feature is pretty cool in itself, but there are so many awesome features if you decide to become a paying member with a small annual fee, or a slightly larger one off fee to become a founding member(I will be buying my founding membership as soon as I get paid next week, and my nano goodies).
There are formatting options to make your upload to creatspace upon winning easy, a paying member can have unlimited works, with unlimited word counts, ebook marketplace access, competitons to come... It's still in progress, but I am already addicted!
I'm going to register, but I noticed I need to know my user number from Nano to get the Nano trial....I have no idea what that number is, and the method it showed to find out is not working. My number does not show in my address bar, so I'm stumped on what to do about that...does look very cool though!
Hi everyone! Sorry for the confusion, yes our sign up system is in a bit of a spin with the awesome new NaNo website having been released, we're working furiously on a fix which should be up in the next hour or so, thanks for your patience!
Just an update on this, we've deployed a fix; the sign up system is a tiny bit different so check the instructions on the registration page, you need to enter the name you see at the end of your profile not the old number. If you signed up as a trial member never fear, you can visit http://pangurpad.com/linknano (once you've logged in) to verify your nano membership.
Sorry for the trouble, best of luck with your novel!
Hi, i just hit 10k on my novel and it decidided i needed to upgrade my account? But i can't upgrade till the end of the month until i get paid which is why i was using this just for this month thought i could write my whole 50k in it? Apprently i can't.
A quick heads up, PangurPad are running a competition on our forums right now, you get 15 minutes to speed-write to a word prompt and the winner will receive a packet of official NaNoWriMo badges! It only takes 15 minutes and it's a great way to get in the writing groove with just three weeks before NaNo begins :O
Naw, you can enter as many times as you like :) It's just a bit of fun and supposed to get you into the writing zone before NaNo so by all means write as many stories as you like, you might be digging up plot bunnies for other people while you're at it as well :)
I am unable to find the price of this service on it's website. I also am a bit hinky about the terms of service giving the Pangurpad rights to anything I post on their software in advertising.
Hey there Sugarbritches, thanks for the questions :)
PangurPad is totally free to use as a NaNo participant. If you'd like to buy a full membership it's just $20 a year (I really need to get that up on the front page!) but you don't have to pay a thing to use it for NaNoWriMo at all.
Our terms and conditions are pretty standard ones and relate to posts you make on the forums/things you write in your pangurpad profile etc. You're basically giving us the right to show other people that information on our website.
In our Ts & Cs we define 'works' which are totally different, those are your writings and as it says if you chose to publish your writing via pangurpad for others to see, you have to give us the right to show it to other people, if you don't ever use our publishing features then you don't give us that right :)
Basically your writing on pangurpad is for your eyes only, not even our moderators/admins can read it unless you publish it for them to see.
I hope this helps answer your queries Surgarbritches, happy writing :)
No it is stored under full copyright, if you share it you can choose to maintain rights to it (only giving Pangur the right to share it) or you can choose to publish it under a creative commons license, which few writers will want.
We're actually working on IE support right now and it should be out by the end of next week with our new-look editor and a whole bunch of new features :)
ps: We've also just discovered that IOS 5 (iPad) finally has support for rich text editing through the web so PangurPad now works just fine on iPad (ios5) as well :D
Pomke, thanks, that's great news, work is a bit quiet these days but I can't use anything bar my work computer so your online thingie would be awesome :)
Yay! Just got paid, and just bought my membership!
My one issue... I now can't see the nano fundraising bar!
I understand that maybe not everyone wants to see it, but perhaps we could have the option to turn it back on if we DO want to see how progress is going?
You need to enter your nano name into the promo field on the registration page, just type in dafaolta and it should work, if not register without one and I'll set it manually for you :)
Hi, I have a question about how Pangurpad saves my novel. I want to be able to use it both at home and at work, but I don't want my novel to be recorded on the servers at work. When I first load the editing page, I get that pop up that asks for permission to allow Pangurpad to use the browser (or something) to save my work--If I say no, will it still save my novel, or what exactly does that mean?
You really need an FAQ page on the website--if there is one, it's not easily accessible, as I couldn't find it!
I believe that allows for temporary storage should you continue typing after losing internet, but I may be wrong. But whatever that's for it shouldn't be on your servers at your work in any retrievable form.
You sure can use PangurPad safely at work. You need to click ok when it asks to save your work on the browser, if you're worried about your work accessing your Novel on your work PC you can clear cookies/saved data in your browser once you're finished (Be sure to have clicked save before hand to make sure that your novel has been saved on the PangurPad server or else you will lose your changes made at work).
An FAQ is a great idea, I'll get on to that right away :)
Just a small whine: I tried to use your service, but was told that my firefox browser is too old and I need to update to firefox 5. That would be fine if it was just a note warning me that everything might not work as it should, but when I'm blocked off the page over such a thing, that's just annoying. Why not warn about this before I went through the trouble of signing up, or just not block me completely for something like that?
Great point about letting people know before hand, I'm just adding some minimum browser requirements to our shiny new FAQ (should be up in the next few hours) and also on our features page. I'm guessing you're on firefox ~3.6? Unfortunately those warnings are important because very old versions of browsers don't have the features required for PangurPad to work at all. Rather than having someone try to use an old browser and then have all of their work get lost because it was unable to save, we'd rather just say 'Nope sorry you need a more recent browser'. Sorry for the hassle and I hope you have an awesome NaNo 2011!
So I've been using PangurPad for a couple of days now, and I'm fairly impressed so far, if there weren't that one problem I have: I need to work on my novel both on my PC and my netbook - and occassionally on my Iphone as well. This weekend, I only used my netbook, because I was visiting my family, and now when I try to access my novel on my PC, it doesn't show the progress I made this weekend, but only the things I wrote on my PC. I tried to access my novel again over my netbook, which worked just fine, I can see all the things I wrote on there. I even tried to save it again and made sure it said: "Saved on Pangurpad.com" (or something like that), but I still can't see my newly written things when I access PangurPad over my PC.
We've been running a 15 minute writing competition over at PangurPad with the prize being some awesome NaNo badges from the NaNo store. The deadline is just one day away now so if you'd like a chance to win all you need to do is sign up at PangurPad.com, head over to the NaNo community area and find the thread called 'Win some NaNo badges!'.
We've already had dozens of fantastic entries, what can you write in 15 minutes?
I tried to register as a WriMo, but it keeps informing me that my NaNoWriMo ID is invalid, though I have double checked this several times. I really love the idea of the program and would love to try it out, but I'd also prefer to be registered as a WriMo.
Aw, it's just so gosh darn cute! Look at the little kitties everywhere! And of course, the poem on the main page is Irish, I took it as a sign that I should register. I'll be using a combination of Pangur and Scrivener, because I've been looking for a good secure way of backing up my novel on an online server. Can't wait to go and tinker around with it! Thanks for the special offer!

Re: PangurPad writing software in your browser
I can't log in as a NaNo, evidently, as when I copy/paste my browser ID address it tells me it's invalid. Yet, here I am. What to do to try this?

Re: PangurPad writing software for Mac and Windows
Same as above :( Is it something to do with the new site?
Re: PangurPad writing software for Mac and Windows
Yes it is the new site, previously it worked perfectly.

When's the cut off for the comp?
Re: PangurPad writing software for Mac and Windows
Judging happens on the 25th of October, so your badges should hopefully arrive in time for NaNo :)

And is it one entry per person?

Re: PangurPad writing software in your browser
Thank you for the information, and your explanation does ease my fears about ownership and showing of my work.
Re: PangurPad writing software in your browser
The works are stored under Creative Commons rules if I am not mistaken...?
Also, the limited time founding membership is a $45 once off fee (no recurring annual fees), which is what I will be getting.

I'm having trouble registering. The site keeps telling me I'm not valid. Is that because I'm stuck using IE 7?
Thanks!

Thank you. I will try again.
