Have no fear! We won't leave you behind. We understand that sometimes, the internet burps, a dragon lands on your house, or your mother grounds you and you can't use the computer. So if you wrote your 50k in November, we can help! If you do NOT show a purple winner bar in your profile and you don't have "Collect Winner Goodies" in your My NaNoWriMo menu, then you are not registered as a winner. As the special offer codes have been distributed, if you have not been validated as a winner, we can no longer guarantee that you'll be able to receive your special offer codes. We can still validate you as a winner to receive your purple bar and downloadable winner's goodies, though. What you'll need to do is contact me privately. You'll send me a copy of your novel (NOT via nanomail) through email, scrambled if you prefer so I can't read it. What we'll need to do to verify you is send a scrambled copy (this is an optional step and is not required, but suggested if you're concerned about the security of your novel) of your novel to me along with the account name at heather_dudley@nanowrimo.org. I can then manually count your words and validate you as a winner. If you do NOT include your account name, I will be unable to process your request, so please don't forget this. The BEST file type to send is plain text; I can open other types, but this is the fastest, easiest format, and less likely to result in word count weirdness. Please allow 24-48 hours for the processing of your request because there may be many people who need help with this. :) [Update: 1.22.11] Unstickying this thread. Late validation is still open for winner status/downloadable goodies.

Part of mine was partially handwritten, so I tried to use Lorem Ipsum, but it got all screwy and kept showing the wrong word count. Now it's too late :( What should I do?

I'm having problems with the validator also. My word processor (OpenOffice) counted it as 50200+ word count and yet my validator only counted it as 49000+ only. What did I do wrong? :(

I went on about 8 p.m. last night and the option to validate was not available. I couldn't find the spot to do it anywhere. The instructions said that sometimes it's "grayed out" during times of high traffic, but will it come back? Or is it too late. If I had known that would happen I would've validated it 5 days ago. Seriously. What is that.

If you'll follow the instructions in the first post of this thread though, we'll get you taken care of.

[/quote] If it's November 30 somewhere, you can validate on your own. As I believe that we've passed that time, you can send in late validation when you like. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response.

I went on last night to validate my novel because I had forgotten to do that three days ago when I actually finished it, and it said that it was validated but now it's not showing it at all and I'm no labeled a winner even though I have almost 80,000 words. What do I do?

There was a validation link for you to paste in your novel for NaNo's wordcount bot to verify that you actually have the 50000 words. It was located under "Update Novel Information" in your profile. But if you follow the process here, you can still get your lovely purple bar, and next year you'll know use the NaNo validator. :)

Thanks! [/quote] If you didn't turn purple, you're not listed as a winner. If you validated before the 25th, the winner's module had not been turned on. You'll need to go through the late validation process to show as a winner and access your winner goodies.

Why are we forced to validate before the deadline now? I used to do it a few days later when I'd had time to compile all the many files. Validating is a several hour task in itself. Thanks for the first post though, I will get mine sent tomorrow.

Any other grants of winner status have been done manually by the staff and other volunteers. I understand that we should do a better job of informing folks about the way the process works - especially with the new version of the site.

I got several times yesterday, and was even on at Midnight last night, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to validate my word count, and then all my information besides my account name at the top was all gone. It was as though I didn't even participate, I can't get to any dashboard, or anything, it just goes to the sites main page when I click on it. I sent an email, with an attached docx file to show my word count, but I wanted to make sure there was proof on the sight somewhere that I was having issues, and that everything I had done for the last week just disappeared. I validated my novel early in the month right after I hit 50k (around Nov. 15th). I failed to validate again after that and now I don't have the winner bar or page, though my count shows at past 50k. Did I mess up by not validating again yesterday? Do I need to follow the procedure above and email my scrambled copy to you?

I was frustrated too much as I failed to validate my novel due to internet problem. Never opened the nanowrimo mail after that thinking it is no use. Suddenly now when I just opened the site I saw your mail now. can i send my write up now or is it too late?

That sounds like a technical reason to me. I couldn't claim lack of internet at home, because I don't have it in the first place and know I have to plan ahead, but you had a reasonable expectation of being able to connect up and then couldn't.

Late validation, like NaNoWriMo in general, is on your honor. I don't consider nor pay attention to reasons why you're validating late... I just validate. :) I assume that you are not trying to cheat the system, and if you are... no skin off my nose... You could have done that before the deadline and we wouldn't be any the wiser. ;)

I'm sorry guys, I'm receiving literally hundreds of validation requests. I can't confirm nor deny that I've received them or not. I don't have time to acknowledge individual requests. I'll go through them and validate those... if you end up with a winner's bar, you'll know I got it. :) I'm just needing some time over the weekend to get through these. I hope to process the remainder that I've received so far tonight.

Okay folks, I've worked through almost all of the validation requests I've received. If you are NOT showing purple, please check your email (or nanomail); there were some problems with some of the documents I've received.

I updated every day, sometimes twice. I guess the big windstorm along the foothills blew out the power (350,000 people lost power in Pasadena and it's environs). I hit 52K on day 8—no purple bar, no diploma and I'm wondering if I should wear the shirt that arrived on the first.

Did you validate between the 25th-30th of November? That's when official validation is open and when the purple bars appear. If not, the first post in this thread explains how you can claim late validation.

I have a question on another technical bit... I wrote 51,260 words and validated it, yet it does not say that I am a winner. Is there something wrong? Did it not get checked? Without knowing the specifics of how/when you validated, I can't say why you aren't, but you'll need to follow the instructions in the first post if you'd like your winner status and goodies.

Hey folks! When you submit your documents for me to validate, I need you to do a few things: 1) Include your account name 2) Send it in a file type I can read... I can read most file types, but plain text is PREFERRED, followed by .doc or .docx. Pretend I'm the nano validator. :) Since I am. 3) Do not password lock your file... all files are not read, and deleted immediately upon validate. If you are concerned about security, please scramble your document before sending. 4) CHECK YOUR EMAIL. I have a number of requests that I could not process for a variety of reasons, and haven't heard from the sender in two days. There is a deadline for you to receive special offer codes, so if you want to receive those, time is of the essence. If you don't respond to my emails, I can't help you! Make sure your email address can receive email. I'm here to help, so please don't hesitate to ask questions, but please read the first post FIRST before posting here asking what to do... it really does tell you. :)

I thought that validating my novel meant that everyone could read it, and I did NOT want that to happen until I had edited it, and I was in a frenzy, and still am, a little, so could you help me validate? I got 50,001 words in 24 days... I just now found this thread. I can send you the file if you want, it no longer matters to me, so long as the novel is validated. Please, please, please help!

Well, at least I know that I wasn't the ONLY one who had a technical problem. Wish I'd seen this earlier, but since I got the CONGRATS WINNER when I sent in the book, I thought it would automatically show up, but I guess I was wrong. Oh Well, just another delay. Glad I found this on the forum. Did anyone else have a problem with the daily word count NOT showing up on the bars? New program, many bugs.. better luck next year!

It's too late to get the codes? I only got back on (I validated on the 27th because I wouldn't be able to get back online before the 30th) today and I just found out I didn't win. I'm so confused! KLS

It may be, yes; We can't guarantee any codes at this point, because codes are distributed based on our winner's list... once they've been distributed, we don't get more.

As I reported on the 5th (when I emailed my transcript for manual validation), I could not validate. I've been having 'net connection problems and couldn't get the validation page to load. Haven't heard back from OLL on this. Am I too late, then, for the winner stuff? The validation process worked perfectly last year. Not sure what happened this time. - LC Cooper

[/quote] Jaydex, it looks like you didn't validate your winning novel between November 25 and November 30. In order to qualify for the special offer codes, you had to validate between those dates, or submit a late validation request before the codes were distributed. We can't guarantee the codes once they've been distributed to the winners, as we get codes based on the number of winners we have. You can still validate as a winner by following instructions in the first post so that you can show off your winner's bar and have access to your downloadable winner goodies, though!

Hi folks; sorry about the delay if you've sent a validation request in the last few days. I've had a family emergency over the last week that's kept me from all but the most critical duties. I'll be working on these validation requests today, so if you've sent me a validation request, I'll have those up as soon as possible.
