Another Scrivener wordcound question

Hello.
I'm trying to use Scrivener to write an academic essay. But I have a question.
How can I check the wordcound for a limited amount of text within a larger document, for example if I have highlighted a block of text, how can i find out how many words I have highlighted? Also, can I get it to tell me a wordcount and exclude quotes and footnotes?
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed but this forum looked full of helpful folks.
Thanks.

I'm not sure which platform you are using. On a Mac when you select text in the editor the footer statistics just automatically switch to showing the selection count. On Windows you need to right-click on the selection and it'll be printed at the bottom of the contextual menu.

For larger sub-section selections, say multiple items out of the draft, use Scrivenings mode. The footer stats will always show the current text selection, even if that is more than one item. Or you can use the Selection section in the Project/Project Statistics panel.

Feel free to visit our forum in the future for specific technical support. You'll be more likely spotted over there than here. :) You'll find a link in your Help menu.
