I understand that on October 1st, the NaNoWriMo site wipes the forums. So, out of curiosity, does this affect the users' accounts at all? Do we have to start up new accounts, or do our accounts remain untouched?
I thought with the new Ruby on Rails that the site wipes weren't happening anymore? *confused*

Okay. Thanks for answering my question. I know that some people had to start up a new account. I guess they just forgot their password or something. *Shrugs* Whatever.
Well, if I ever lost my account somehow, I've got another name in mind that I could use. It ties in with one of my stories, so that would only make it more interesting for my.
Same name and password works for Nano, ScriptFrenzy, and Camp Nano.
Title, word count, excerpts removed. May have to re-enter years won.participated. Nanomail over a year old removed.
Usually Author info stays the same. Picture stays because it is used for all the events of OLL.
When in doubt, save a copy of the page to your computer just in case. For the relaunch I saved my graph, author info, excerpt and everything I wanted to be saved, just in case. (Everything returned that was supposed to return, so I didn't have a problem.) Basically, back up anything you don't want to lose.
Site wipe date is not set in stone and may vary one way or another. Check Breaking News for updates. They usually give plenty of notice.
On Nano it happens around the beginning of October.
If it's not a major overhaul like it was this year, it may only take a short time. Hours. Minutes.
When Frenzy relaunched at the beginning of March, it was hardly noticeable. I was on the forums and a few links didn't work right. Figured it was being relaunched. I signed out and signed back in again a minute later and it was a new site.
On Nano you don't have to worry about it until October.
Kind of a random question about the site...

Re: Kind of a random question about the site...
Your account stays the way it is, just the word count gets cleared.
Re: Kind of a random question about the site...
What Earthsick said. Your accounts stays the same but everyone's word count gets cleared so we're all starting from zero again.

Re: Kind of a random question about the site...
The site wipes aren't really about technical limitations (well, they might have started that way, but they're more about housekeeping now)
We will continue to wipe the novel info and forums each year in preparation for relaunch each season.

Which reminds me, I still need to find a picture for my avatar.

Moving to Tech Help (it's not off topic if it's about our site. :)
Re: Kind of a random question about the site...
More random questions about the wipe:
How long is the site down during the wipe?
When does it go down?
When does it go back up?
