Yes, I'm starting this thread again. This used to be an FAQ many moons ago, so we know which one's right. ;) But how do you say it? I'm on Team Na-No-WRY-Mo forever.

Mystic Dodo

WRY-mo, all the way :)

Lilia Sparks
50124 words so far Winner!

Heck yeah! I'm with you. WRY-mo. And I also use moe at the end. Should it be muh as in month?

littlewonder

Same here.

SpencerReidFan

I always use WREE. It's a force of habit now
Maybe it should be pronounced Nah-No-Wry-Muh with the way month is pronounced, but the Wree-Mo just has a better ring to it in my opinion

There is something about your avatar that is SO inspiring. I think I may use it as a line of dialogue in my writings this November! ^___^

This is so off topic, but your avatar (You're dying...again. Loser.) makes me so darn happy. Supernatural is my addiction. Yellow Fever episode, my FAVORITE episode. I don't know you, but you're full of win.

Ksimpson1998

That is the way that I have prnounced it from the begining Na- NO- WRE- Mo

AnimeCanuck

WREE mo here. Probably comes from so much Japanese romajii, and also German.

padfootprophet

WRY mo!

faminkie

Team WRY-mo :) I always thought of it being pronounced wry as in "Wry"ting, rather that "Wree"ting.

Celebrine

Exactly. Wry here too!

Pretty Crazy

Nano-WRY- mo

That is how I say it. :)

Lady Librettista

Definitely WRY-Mo!

WRY as in WRY-ting and WRY as in "rhymes-with-why" as in "why for the love of sanity am I DOING this?!"

I think it fits. ;D

Lalatin

I love your explanation for it. <3 Totally Wry-mo

When I say the whole thing, I usually use WREE, but when we are referred to as Wrimos, I use WRY. I just like how comical NaNoWREEmo sounds. it is so fun to say!

NaNoWRYMo, it's National Novel WRIting Month, not WREETING MONTH

I'm on team WRY-mo. :) My cousin introduced me to NaNo, and that's how she pronounced it.

WRY Mo I am not a bloody American and as an English Woman I am sick to death of being force fed American accents.

CCathii

Bloody American here. NaNoWRYMo all the way.

aaliona

I have not and never plan to say WREE-mo. The right was sounds like write. :)

Lokiva
60507 words so far Winner!

Wry-mo for the reason that it is the National Novel Writing month (wry-ting not wri-ting)

(p.s... in pronunciation charts that I create, always read an 'i' as an 'ee' sound... x_x tis what I get for learning different languages.)

KeithNelson

Me and the person writing next to me both say WRY-Mo

courtziejayne
5124 words so far

Wry, Because its Wri(ting) not Wre(ting).

polargriff
6695 words so far

Yup, I agree. It is WRY because it is from the word writing. National Novel Writing Month.

So I'm a WRY fan. =D

Adding a caboose to your chain of thought: If it were Na-No-WREE-Mo, then it might as well be pronounced Nay-Naw-WREE-Maw.

writeswithafist
35073 words so far

Seriously. I'd understand all the whining about "but it's not wreeeeting" if they'd apply the same standards to the whole thing, for crying out loud. At least the people saying that it's about how the creator pronounces it have a valid argument!

Na-No-RIH-Mo, because I am a rebel like that. And the several relatives of mine who do Nano also pronounce it that way, so possibly it is genetic as well?

amandapsychedelia
50076 words so far Winner!

I know I'm probably in the minority but

WREE

Rogue_Flower
22029 words so far

WRY all the way. National Novel Wreeting Month just sounds silly.

deasoline
64243 words so far Winner!

Na-no-vre-mo with a short e sound and an o without the "u" sound in the end. Since I'm Swedish. When I talk English (= in school, since I'm an IB student) I use na-no-wry-mo.

lnfreeman
50143 words so far Winner!

Hey! I was in IB back in my high school days! Nice to see that it's still around twenty years later! :)

Captain Lonewolf

WRY. Sounds better to me

Ophiucha
7790 words so far

WRY. I never really thought of it as "WRY-ting" until long after I was used to saying it that way, I just instinctively went with WRY. It seemed more natural to say out loud.

Aisling Banrion
24270 words so far

Wry, for sure. It comes more naturally.

Silhouette.
63791 words so far Winner!

Wry, of course.

As others have said, it's not Wree-ting.

Gerd D.

Na-No-WREE-Mo, I don't care for the root WREE sounds better.

Wry -Mo. Adding to the 'it's not wreeting' crowd!

charleenlynette
65731 words so far Winner!

I called it WREE-Mo when I first started, but quickly converted to WRY-Mo. I was studying Italian at the time so that was the vowel sound that seemed most natural. Similarly, I had a friend who went to college near Lima, OH, and I always pronounced it like the capital of Peru, not like the bean.

My.Zombie.And.Me
51559 words so far Winner!

Definitely 'Wry'. Joining the 'it's not Wreeting' crowd. Also, my roommate and I nipped this problem in the bud.

We just call it 'NaNo.'

atrociousCreations
11400 words so far

That's actually really smart. Kudos to you and your roommate! :D

franniebernath
61579 words so far Winner!

Always pronounced it WREE though WRY does make more sense. I just call it NaNo. ha

irreverent_writer
50494 words so far Winner!

With Frannie! I say Wree, even though Wry makes more sense.

Daisy512
50002 words so far Winner!

Same here! I understand why WRY makes more sense, but I still say WREE

MashaBGD
4202 words so far

WREE-Mo. If only because I'm Serbian and we pronounce everything like it's written. :)

MikeAlx
50189 words so far Winner!

Wry, Because its Wri(ting) not Wre(ting).
By that logic, it should be NaNoWryMuh, because it's "month" not "moanth"!

irreverent_writer
50494 words so far Winner!

Good point, about Moanth! I will continue to say Wree and not worry about it!

Writing_Ninja
50107 words so far Winner!

That depends on how you say Month. The n in month makes the o sound off. if you cut it off, it would be "mo" as in "moe".
