Yes, I'm starting this thread again. This used to be an FAQ many moons ago, so we know which one's right. ;) But how do you say it? I'm on Team Na-No-WRY-Mo forever.
I always use WREE. It's a force of habit now Maybe it should be pronounced Nah-No-Wry-Muh with the way month is pronounced, but the Wree-Mo just has a better ring to it in my opinion
This is so off topic, but your avatar (You're dying...again. Loser.) makes me so darn happy. Supernatural is my addiction. Yellow Fever episode, my FAVORITE episode. I don't know you, but you're full of win.

When I say the whole thing, I usually use WREE, but when we are referred to as Wrimos, I use WRY. I just like how comical NaNoWREEmo sounds. it is so fun to say!
Seriously. I'd understand all the whining about "but it's not wreeeeting" if they'd apply the same standards to the whole thing, for crying out loud. At least the people saying that it's about how the creator pronounces it have a valid argument!
Na-No-RIH-Mo, because I am a rebel like that. And the several relatives of mine who do Nano also pronounce it that way, so possibly it is genetic as well?
Na-no-vre-mo with a short e sound and an o without the "u" sound in the end. Since I'm Swedish. When I talk English (= in school, since I'm an IB student) I use na-no-wry-mo.
WRY. I never really thought of it as "WRY-ting" until long after I was used to saying it that way, I just instinctively went with WRY. It seemed more natural to say out loud.
I called it WREE-Mo when I first started, but quickly converted to WRY-Mo. I was studying Italian at the time so that was the vowel sound that seemed most natural. Similarly, I had a friend who went to college near Lima, OH, and I always pronounced it like the capital of Peru, not like the bean.
Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?

Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY-mo, all the way :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Heck yeah! I'm with you. WRY-mo. And I also use moe at the end. Should it be muh as in month?
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Same here.

Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
There is something about your avatar that is SO inspiring. I think I may use it as a line of dialogue in my writings this November! ^___^
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I would just like to congratulate you on that fabulous icon. Never not funny.

Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
That is the way that I have prnounced it from the begining Na- NO- WRE- Mo
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WREE mo here. Probably comes from so much Japanese romajii, and also German.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY mo!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Team WRY-mo :) I always thought of it being pronounced wry as in "Wry"ting, rather that "Wree"ting.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Exactly. Wry here too!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Nano-WRY- mo
That is how I say it. :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Definitely WRY-Mo!
WRY as in WRY-ting and WRY as in "rhymes-with-why" as in "why for the love of sanity am I DOING this?!"
I think it fits. ;D
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I love your explanation for it. <3 Totally Wry-mo
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY-mo for sure.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I'm a WRY
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WREE! Yipieeee
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
To be honest, I use the two interchangeably.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
wree. people look at me funny.

Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY-mo =)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
NaNoWRYMo, it's National Novel WRIting Month, not WREETING MONTH
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I'm on team WRY-mo. :) My cousin introduced me to NaNo, and that's how she pronounced it.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY Mo I am not a bloody American and as an English Woman I am sick to death of being force fed American accents.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Bloody American here. NaNoWRYMo all the way.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I have not and never plan to say WREE-mo. The right was sounds like write. :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry-mo for the reason that it is the National Novel Writing month (wry-ting not wri-ting)
(p.s... in pronunciation charts that I create, always read an 'i' as an 'ee' sound... x_x tis what I get for learning different languages.)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Me and the person writing next to me both say WRY-Mo
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry, Because its Wri(ting) not Wre(ting).
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Yup, I agree. It is WRY because it is from the word writing. National Novel Writing Month.
So I'm a WRY fan. =D
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Adding a caboose to your chain of thought: If it were Na-No-WREE-Mo, then it might as well be pronounced Nay-Naw-WREE-Maw.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Seriously. I'd understand all the whining about "but it's not wreeeeting" if they'd apply the same standards to the whole thing, for crying out loud. At least the people saying that it's about how the creator pronounces it have a valid argument!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
That made me laugh out loud.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Who says Nay-tional??
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
So Na-Nah-Wry-Ma?
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
^This.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I say Na-No-WREE-Mo but my boyfriend keeps trying to correct me and make me say Na-No-WRY-Mo maybe i'll get converted
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I started saying WRY today without noticing until now
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WREE, because it just sounds better to me.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Agreed :D It just sounds better to me :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Same.... I try to say WRY but it just doesn't work.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
This forever.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I used to say WREE but I made myself start saying WRY.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Agreed!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Na-No-RIH-Mo, because I am a rebel like that. And the several relatives of mine who do Nano also pronounce it that way, so possibly it is genetic as well?
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I know I'm probably in the minority but
WREE
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY all the way. National Novel Wreeting Month just sounds silly.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Na-no-vre-mo with a short e sound and an o without the "u" sound in the end. Since I'm Swedish. When I talk English (= in school, since I'm an IB student) I use na-no-wry-mo.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Hey! I was in IB back in my high school days! Nice to see that it's still around twenty years later! :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY. Sounds better to me
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WRY. I never really thought of it as "WRY-ting" until long after I was used to saying it that way, I just instinctively went with WRY. It seemed more natural to say out loud.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry, for sure. It comes more naturally.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry, of course.
As others have said, it's not Wree-ting.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Na-No-WREE-Mo, I don't care for the root WREE sounds better.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
This.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Exactly
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry -Mo. Adding to the 'it's not wreeting' crowd!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
I called it WREE-Mo when I first started, but quickly converted to WRY-Mo. I was studying Italian at the time so that was the vowel sound that seemed most natural. Similarly, I had a friend who went to college near Lima, OH, and I always pronounced it like the capital of Peru, not like the bean.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Definitely 'Wry'. Joining the 'it's not Wreeting' crowd. Also, my roommate and I nipped this problem in the bud.
We just call it 'NaNo.'
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
That's actually really smart. Kudos to you and your roommate! :D
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Always pronounced it WREE though WRY does make more sense. I just call it NaNo. ha
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
With Frannie! I say Wree, even though Wry makes more sense.
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Same here! I understand why WRY makes more sense, but I still say WREE
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
WREE-Mo. If only because I'm Serbian and we pronounce everything like it's written. :)
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Wry, Because its Wri(ting) not Wre(ting).
By that logic, it should be NaNoWryMuh, because it's "month" not "moanth"!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
Good point, about Moanth! I will continue to say Wree and not worry about it!
Re: Na-No-WRY-Mo or Na-No-WREE-Mo?
That depends on how you say Month. The n in month makes the o sound off. if you cut it off, it would be "mo" as in "moe".
