Synesthesia

Ok, just a couple of questions for my upcoming novel:
1) Do you have synesthesia? Do you know someone with synesthesia?
2) What type(s)?
3) How does it affect your daily life? Can you describe it?
4) If you have color --> sound synesthesia, please tell me what you think orange sounds like (because I’m just /dying/ to know).
5) How do you sense the... um... not extra sense. Overlapped sense? (ex: sound --> color: do you see colors in the real world (and if you do, where do you see them? On certain objects? On something of a screen...?)? Do you sort of just 'feel' them...? Etc.)
6) May I bombard you with questions if I think of them?
7) If you said yes to 6, should I ask them in nanomail or this thread?

Re: Synesthesia

1) I have synesthesia and so does my dad, who has more types than me, and my friend who has fewer. We have arguments over what colours things are XD
2) not sure of the official names of these types but my main one is I add the sound to images even if the sound isn't there. My second, and weaker, type is giving colours to numbers and letters/groups of letters.
3) Short answer; neither do. I mean they alter how I percieve things but it's not like they assault my senses. Sometimes it's weird when I realise the sounds I'm hearing aren't really there but I don't hear things that are completely off. For example if I see a large flock of birds take flight from a bush from inside a car I think I can hear the noise they probably are making though I can't actually hear it. I also asign actions little sounds. So if lights are flashing on and off but aren't really making a noise I'll hear a little sound, even when I realise I'm making it up. Different actions have different sounds: eg one sound for when the light turns on, one sound for when it turns off, another sound for when a different sized light comes on etc. With numbers and letters I don't see them as different colours to the inks they're printed in like some people do, but I see them in different colours in my head and sometimes I don't like numbers because of the colours I see them as. For example 2012 is a lot nicer to me than 2011 because it's gold, white, grey, gold rather than gold, white, grey, grey. I see 0s and Os as the same colour, and Is and 1s - I only realised this recently.
4) -
5) I've kind of already said this but the noise synesthesia is real to me. I think I can actually hear the sounds I'm adding in. But the colours only happen in my mind's eye.
6) Erm.. okay, but within reason XD
7) nanomail. I can never find threads twice.

Re: Synesthesia

1. Most of the time I experience vague sensations on the edge of my awareness coming from other senses than the primary sense, but from time to time it is very distinct. Other times it is absent. It is not something that is constant. It fluctuates a lot, like thoughts and feelings. I've known several people who had it too, all of them either artists or musicians.

2. Sound mixed with vision and the other way around is what I notice most. But all senses can overlap.

3. For the most part, it enriches all that I perceive. The downside is that there are very few people I can share my experiences with because they have no idea what I'm talking about. It ocassionally creates minor and amusing problems. It is also sometimes unpleasant. Especially with music/sound, I sometimes experience tactile sensations, which can at times be painful. (see 3)

4. The strongest sensations are with sound, and music in particular. Orange is the tone D and the D major scale. Apart from colour, I often also experience tactile sensations when listening to music or sounds. Music can feel like a caress, or like sandpaper. It's not something I image; I actually feel it on my skin. I also perceive numbers as colours. Three is orange.

5. It depends on the sense. The overlapping of sound and sight is mostly mental. So, I 'see' the orange of question no. 4 in my mind. I can 'hear' things when looking at art work, but that is also mental. The other three senses I really experience (smell, taste, tactile).

6. You may ask questions, but within reason. I'm somewhat oversensitive, as you may have guessed, so I need a lot of time to process what I experience.

7. NaNoMail, please.

Hey,
1. Yup
2. I have sound --> colour... And colour-->sound I guess
3. Perfect pitch! Best skill ever. Plus if I can visually see ghe right colours in front of me I can hear the pitches in my head without an instrument, meaning if you give me a box of crayons I can compose you a symphony.

4. Idk if it helps but concert A is definitely orange if played on a brass instrument. (it's red on strings, pink on flutes and orange on the other woodwinds.)
5. I see Fireworks in front of my eyes when I hear music, or when looking at a colour I hear tones in my head.
6. Yes

Re: Synesthesia

1) Do you have synesthesia? Do you know someone with synesthesia?
Um, I think I have it... I don't know anyone else with it, but every so often someone will agree with me that the number 3 is green. etc.

2) What type(s)?
I don't know what kind of types there are. Elinde said something about "giving colours to numbers and letters/groups of letters," and I think that's how to describe it...

3) How does it affect your daily life? Can you describe it?
It doesn't really affect me. It's like words have meanings other than what they actually mean. That's what it feels like ._.

4) If you have color --> sound synesthesia, please tell me what you think orange sounds like (because I’m just /dying/ to know).
The word orange is scarlet. The colour orange is hard to explain. I think it's 256. I don't know.

5) How do you sense the... um... not extra sense. Overlapped sense? (ex: sound --> color: do you see colors in the real world (and if you do, where do you see them? On certain objects? On something of a screen...?)? Do you sort of just 'feel' them...? Etc.)
I think them, I guess... It's like there's a wide-open, neverending black space behind my eyes and that's where they appear. It's definitely separate from anything physically tangible...

6) May I bombard you with questions if I think of them?
Sure, why not? I won't guarantee I have answers, though. XD

7) If you said yes to 6, should I ask them in nanomail or this thread?
Nanomail.
