Just wanted to know. Would you rather be blind or deaf? No, mute is not an option. ^_^ Though I'd much rather be mute than blind or deaf...
If given the choice between blind or deaf (I should hope I'd never have to make such a choice or even become blind or deaf), there is no doubt in my mind that I'd rather be blind. I'm a musician and love composing, so if I were to become deaf... bleck. O__o
Blind. My favorite use of my eyes is for reading/writing, but that can be replaced. My favorite use of my ears is music (and natural noise), which can't be replaced. I'm not a music nut (no skill at all, just like listening!) or a super outdoorsie person, but in terms of "amount of beauty I can no longer appreciate" I think there are probably more pieces of music I'd regret losing than beautiful scenes or artwork.
That's a very difficult question to answer, but I'd rather be deaf than blind. I can't stand not being able to see anything. xD But honestly, I wouldn't mind being mute. ^.^ I stutter and because of that, it's very hard for me to talk so I try not to. Some people seem to take talking for granted which really annoys me.
Ah, yeah. I figured most people who aren't all into music in any way would pick deaf over blind. I agree, speaking is something people really do take for granted most of the time. Being born with the ability to be able to talk without hindrance is a blessing. I've got a friend who has a stutter whenever he reads out loud. It must be so difficult to stutter when you talk at all... I probably wouldn't even try. O_o I'd be too scared.
I rather be deaf. While I do love music a lot. I use my eyes a lot more. I'm a very visual person. But I think some of it is that noise bothers me anyways after a while.
I'd rather be blind. Imagining being deaf I find a lot scarier - it would be like living in a bubble, with no-one else there. Also, you would miss out on a lot more casual conversation - apparently it is a bit of a problem with deaf people that people only communicate with them when they have something to say. You would also miss out on music.
Deaf. I'm also doing art so losing my eyes would be ... weird, since I like passing the time with sketches if I can and if the situation allows it. I don't know. Things about music. Oh well, I do enjoy music and bird song but there are a lot of noises I hate, like speeding cars, the voices of most people, things you hear when people click their tongue all the time out of boredom. Living in the city, being deaf would probably be the better choice. At least I would not need ear plugs any more for sleeping in my own bedroom...
Would rather not have either, but I think I can do a lot better with being deaf. I'm not even that into music so the only loss would be hearing what is around me.
As an artist...I need to be able to see, I love being able to see. But....I love singing....and music is my life as well so.........I can't pick I thought I could -runs out in tears-
Deaf, because I wouldn't want to give up the things/sights I see everyday. Though I'll have to hear my characters rantings more often, I'll live though it.
deaf. Imagine not being able to see a run-rise or people laughing and smile, okay you won't hear the sounds. But you still see everything and can imagine everything. If you were blind you wouldn't even be able to imagine or dream up stuff yourself. You wouldn't be able to walk by yourself or even read if you were blind. There's so much to seeing that you can't get from just listening.
Oh my gosh. I am terrified by this ever happening. I mean, I use my eyes for pretty much everything I love - reading, writing, art, videogames, and suchforth - but I also love listening to music and I play the flute, so being deaf would pretty much stop me from doing that.
I suppose, though, if I HAD to choose, I would say I'd rather be deaf. Yeah, I'd never be able to properly talk to my friends again, but there are ear aids and you can lip read. Plus, the thought of losing the ability to do everything I love is terrifying.
Deaf. As much as I love music, my eyes are my livelihood. I am a professional designer, so I definitely need my eyes. Besides, I guess I could still learn to read lips.
Eyesight is pretty much essential for writing, but hearing is essential for playing piano (for me, at least -- I'm no Beethoven!) In the end, I think I'd choose piano over writing, so going blind it is for me.
Deaf. If you're blind, you must learn a new place before you are comfortable there -- traveling, except to meet people, is virtually pointless. I want run and play sports and swim and all of that is seriously dangerous if you can't see where you're going.
I theorize that with the exception of musicians/artists who are by their crafts biased, introspective people are more likely to choose their sight because it is more important for independence, and extroverts are more likely to choose hearing because human speech is verbal and they wouldn't mind the dependency they'd have on others.
I'd rather be deaf because I love painting, writing, making crafts, and creating things. Last year, I had a terrible ear infection in my canal and inner ear that was so bad, I honestly could not hear out of my right ear for about a week and I was having honest conversations with myself bout this very debate and that was when I decided that I would choose deafness. Also, I think that deafness grants you more independence than blindness. If you're deaf, you can still drive and take care of yourself, but if you're blind, you need to depend on other people.
Darn, both my eyesight and my hearing are already bad, I wear glasses and I always tend to mishear... pretty much everything. I think I'll go deaf then get laser eye surgery :P
I'd rather be deaf. I'm an artist not that into music, and sound generally annoys me. Besides, it would give me an excuse to ignore people and I don't particularly enjoy small talk. And reading is my life, so while I probably could learn braille, that doesn't work if I want to do anything online (although I'm sure they have things where it reads it aloud, but I really would rather read it myself). So. Definitely deaf.
Blind or Deaf?

Hurrah, a fellow rather-be-blind pal. ^^

Re: Blind or Deaf?
Deaf. I like music but I'm not that into it, and sometimes I play songs I like in my head rather than listening to them, anyway. xD
Re: Blind or Deaf?
There is that.. ^^

This is seriously one of my greatest fears.

Re: Blind or Deaf?
I would rather be deaf. Being blind would seriously handicap my writing capabilities, as well as my reading ones. I would not take kindly to that.

Re: Blind or Deaf?
People who go blind can still use their imaginations and see things in their dreams, typically speaking. And blind people can read. :)
