2.75 Years of BFS - The Day Zero Project

I made this thread last year and got a lot of interest in this, so I wanted to share it again this year. If you've got a lot of BFS you want to do, but don't think you can fit it all into one year, take a look at the Day Zero Project.

The idea is about the same as a BFS list, but bigger. Your task, should you choose to accept it: complete 101 tasks you choose for yourself in 1001 days, or approximately 2.75 years. They can be anything you want to do, as long as it has a definable end point. I started my list July 1st, 2010, so I'm a little over halfway done with my 1001 days, and I haven't regretted a single one. I've done things I never thought I would do, learned things about me I never knew, relearned things I forgot, rekindled relationships I left behind and made new ones. I did my first NaNo because of my list, and I completed my first novel because of it. The Day Zero project has changed my life for the better, and I would regret it if I didn't share that with you all.

If you want to undertake the DZP, people find it helps to keep up a blog about what they're doing, and people doing it enjoy reading them, so feel free to share if that's something you want to do. Mine's here. If you've got questions about it, post here or Nanomail me and I'll answer them as best as I can :)

(Note: I am just a participant in the project. I don't have anything to do with the site or the project itself.)

Nano is actually a part of my 101 list that I started in September. :) It's a brilliant project and I highly recommend it. I've already experienced new things I might otherwise have not done.

I am very interested in this project! But, in your blog, you had some numbers such as (15/55) or something like that next to the goals. What does that mean?

I'm guessing they need to have done 55 things to achieve the goal, and have done 15 of them already? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for this, it's inspired me to start up my own list, and I'm really excited for it already! :)

This :) It's hw many have been done versus how many total are needed.

Doing this!

And I want to start today because then my Day Zero (not sure about that title) will be Saturday August 30, 2014, a month after my 30th birthday (*silent scream*) and I like the sound of that date. Sounds orange : )

Thank you for this inspiration - I will be compiling my list over the next few days and then starting when it's finished!

I started my project back in May and I love it. I don't have a blog for it, but I just may start one. Hmmm.. *ponders that thought*

Anyway - my list is here:

I've started writing my list, but I put my official start date for a little later so I can brainstorm the full 101 list. I'm also thinking about starting a blog about it too in order to track my progress!

Wow. This looks awesome. I have no idea what I'd put on my list though.

You can get examples from the site and various blogs. On mine, the page called "Support Group" has a list of all the people I started doing it with and links to their pages you can scan for ideas :)

I'm so glad to see so many people getting started with their own! I hope you all have as much fun with it as I am!!

What would it mean for your life? Well, depending on what your goals are, you could do amazing things. You can shape this challenge however you want. Concerned about your social life? Make goals to spend more time with friends and family. Want to become a better writer? Make a goal to write fiction every single day for three months. Does the house need cleaning? Make a goal to tidy up a bit. There are endless possibilities, and you can make this as fun or as serious as you want.

I read your thread last year, and though I can’t remember if I responded to it or not, I am glad to see you again. After reading about DZP and reading your blog a little, I choose to make my own list and implement it on the first of January 2011. It has been a good year and I have already made fabulous changes in myself and my surrounding. Through you, I also found out about Operation Beautiful. I just want to thank you for putting this information where I could find it.

Good luck, and have fun! :) And you're welcome, TheRavenLilian. The DZP has done so much good for me, I'd be remiss if I didn't share it with everyone I could. I haven't started my Operation Beautiful task yet... I should start doing that in January. :)

I made my list a while back but didn't set the start date until the 15th of January. Technically I've already started a few of my goals.

My countdown has started with the turning of the year. I am one goal down and three or four in progress. : )

I'm so glad I found this thread! It made me remember of my own Day Zero Project I made over a year ago but didn't work too hard at. Anyway, here I am in 2012 with a restarted list and a lot more focus :D
Here I am, http://dayzeroproject.com/user/PoetWarrior if anyone wants to say hello!
