Any other musicians here this time around? I find that studying music feeds into my writing in some interesting ways.
Here are my music related goals for 2012:
1. Complete the three main ukulele classes offered at our local guitar shop by the end of June.
2. Be able to play by memory a minimum of three more tunes from Ozzie Kotani’s slack key book by the end of December 2012.
3. Be able to play by memory at least the first set of four slack key tunes from “Old Time Slack Key Guitar” 4. Add at least 12 banjo tunes to my repertoire.
5. Compete in the Topanga Banjo-Fiddle Contest, with entries in banjo and other/slack key guitar, space permitting.
I would like to learn the guitar and piano. I used to take piano lessons, and last year I got an electric guitar for Christmas, but I haven't been practicing often at all... *sheepish smile*
The other thing is a bit crazy: magic based on music. No idea how I would do such a thing, but if it's a book, I want the music. If it's a movie? Wonderful! Still want the music. xD I may need to request other's help with that... Even if I can play my own instruments well enough (I have a guitar, piano, recorder, and an unknown renasance festive instument. However, I have trouble whistle in tune, and I'm no singer. :P), I think that would be awesome to include some other things as well.... Ah, how I love this idea. Still have no idea how it could be carried out, though.
Yes, I have music goals for 2012. First of all, I need to start practicing my guitar, keyboard, and singing skills once again, because I've been neglecting them the past year or so for WriMo after WriMo. There's a five-volume epic I've had in my head since 1992 and must get out, after all.
Second, I'm going to write at least the minimum 14 1/2 songs for the leap-year edition of FAWM this February. (The 1/2 song is a collaboration, and this will be my first ever. For that, I'll have to stifle my big ego, if only a bit...) And this while I'm struggling to finish my '10 NaNo for FebNoWriMo.
Third, I'll attempt to win 50 Songs in 90 Days for the first time ever. The first two months are also the months of Camp NaNoWriMo, during which I'll be trying to finish my '11 NaNo, so the closest thing to 50/90 victory for me will be simply taking part again (I skipped the last two).
Find a classical voice teacher. It's SO HARD to find one around here!! We have plenty of singers, but no classical ones. *yanks hair out* I don't WANT to learn modern music before learning classically!
Yes! I need to get back to playing my guitar again. I bought a beautiful semi-acoustic guitar a couple of years ago which I have barely played due to a variety of reasons, but I really need to get back into it again, I really miss playing. I have also long wanted to learn the piano, which I might start doing this year. Come to think of it, I need to find my harmonica too and re-learn that. If I can get the hang of these instruments (again) in 2012, then I might make my 2013 goals something more along the lines of writing my own music. We'll see.

1) find a an opera teacher. We have all sorts of music teachers in town but very few teach opera. 2) be in a professional musical over the summer, as I'm doing one right now at school. 3) write songs that I don't abandon halfway through. 4) learn to play the ukulele.
Mainly, finish my rewrite of Kashmir and possibly even invent some sort of signature thing to add to "stage presence"? I dunno. I', just really excited, assuming I finish this it'll be my first rewrite ever!
Find a playable violin and start playing again.
Make a solid schedule for practicing all my instruments, and upgrade as many as possible.
Figure out how, exactly, you make a piano sound "edgy" enough for hard rock.
- Get better at playing flute (especially in regards to posture and stuff, which I tend to neglect) - Convince my mother to buy me a GOOD flute, not one that just looks pretty - At least attempt starting to learn the notes of the bass clef - Try and learn to sing - In regards to the above, audition for at least one of the school musicals this year That's really all I can think of for now
-Win FAWM, with an added challenge of producing every song to actually create an album, which will hopefully be available online (keep an eye on the forums over there at the end of February, since I'll probably announce it there if it actually happens)
-Start a blog, probably a bit before February, but for the purpose of tracking my progress on the above goal. (if anybody's interested in reading that, NaNoMail me, and I'll send you the link when it's up)
-Participate in 50/90 for the first time, hopefully making another album or two.
-Start updating my Youtube page with more original songs and covers (I'm FlipFlyFall if anybody wants to check me out)
-Collab with a couple friends that have expressed interest in playing together before.
-Continue with piano, of course, but also pick up guitar and improve my singing.
-Oh, and did I mention that I want my albums to provide funds for charity? Yeah, there's this organization (Hand Me Down Some Silver) that funded my piano lessons this year, and I think it'd be cool to give back. ;)
If anybody's interested in collabing with me too, NaNoMail me, and maybe we can work something out. Good luck to everybody in the coming year!
well, i want to get back to playing the violin, i took lessons for a loooong time but gave it up like four or more years ago i also want to get back to learning the guitar, my dad knows a little but i was mostly teaching myself and maybe practise the piano beside right before my lesson going "oh crap i did not practise all week!" humph i hate practising!! why cant i just sight read for the rest of my life!
1) Get vocal lessons 2) Learn to sight-read bass clef (don't sing it, don't know it) 3) Learn and memorize the Feather Theme from Forrest Gump 4) Learn and memorize Kiss the Rain by Yiruma
I've always hated it, even more than the alto clef(which I rarely even use). Every time I try to play something with a complicated left hand on the piano, or even a low brass instrument, I always end up having to go through the "George Bush Drives Fast Always" routine.

Re: Music Goals for 2012
- Seriously focus on guitar (which means practicing EVERY DAY for 1hr+)
- Actually get my own guitar! (both acoustic and electric)
- Seriously focus on Singing Success (which means doing lessons every day of the week with a break on Sunday)
- FINISH MY UNFINISHED songs!!!
- Write at least one NEW song every month
- Take classes on music composition & theory
Not too bad. I'm excited to get started!

Agreed with the flute thing. It's quite easy to forget when you're concentrating on the music :P Also - TONE! BETTER TONE! Must practise... tone...
Re: Music Goals for 2012
1. Continue voice lessons
2. Actually learn to read music.
3. (Maybe) start violin or flute.

Bass clef :S
