I was going to start a sketchbook project, either on January 1st or on my birthday (Janaury 18th) that's to draw a sketch every day for a year! I want to improve on my drawing abilities and it seems like a good way to do it.
I'm worried about sticking to it and following through all year, but I'm going to try.
OMG I am totally joining you on this! I love drawing and I have tons of pictures to draw (i'm hopeless without something to look off of) but I'm totally going to do this! I'm In!
Oh my gosh! this is just what i need! i was originally going to do this for december but i got lazy and never did it =/ lol but i would be worried about only getting through like two months but what the heck, I'M IN!!

By the way, Alainainthesky. Look at that purple bar under your username. LOOK AT IT. You wrote a novel in a month. You did what over half of the people on NaNoWriMo completed.
So I figure that if you wrote a novel in a month, then you can draw one thing per day.
I'm doing this! :) My plan is to pick out the things I am worst at drawing (so usually avoid) and make myself work on one of those things every day.
Sticking with it will definitely be an issue for me, but every January I say I'm going to improve at art and every December I look back and see little to no improvement, so this is going to be the year I don't fail.
Like egyptianprincess12 said, if we can write 50k in a month, we can do 365 sketches in a year!
Definitely need to work on my art. I thought about this, then I thought there was no way and pushed my goal back to two sketches a week, but with a group of others giving it a go, I think I will too!
I've never finished a drawing before, but now I'm tempted.... *ponders* Yes. I'll do a variation.
Seeing as I'm trying to read over 100 books in a year while doing a NaNo each month, I think I will try to finish one drawing a week. ^^; Heh.
Now the question is if I'm drawing my own thing or drawing from a referance. I.I ....I've never drawn something on my own before. What should I do?? :s It's daunting, even /thinking/ about drawing something that I've never seen!

Pick something you really enjoy to draw and try come up with something without looking at a reference photo. Or do a simple sketch of small things, like a leaf or and eye or something like that. But don't worry, you'll do great and there isn't anything wrong with using references:)

So, I know it is only day 3, but how is everyone doing?
I've only got 2 because I only found out about this Sunday night. So far I've done one graphic type drawing with markers, and today's is a pencil sketch. Are you going for super finished or something relaxing and fun and not worrying about it being perfect?
Gah, fell behind a few days so I've been playing catch-up today. I definitely have a lot to work on in terms of improving, but it's fun so far. I'm more relaxed about how finished these have to be, but I'd like to push at least a few to that point where I can post them online. How about you?

I'm behind too, I missed the first day, and then yesterday. (I remembered and was going to do one, but then I got sucked into a new book and completely forgot about it!) So I'll be doing some catchup this week as well. I'm not focusing too much on how finished they are (though once I get into them I keep tweaking and tweaking:) because, at the moment, I'm more set on setting the habit of drawing everyday, as well as trying my hand at things I don't usually do. (Case in point, my second drawing was a lighthouse on top of a sea cliff, never done one before but I like it:) Since I think I'm going to have trouble thinking up things for a whole year I've now got a jar sitting on the table with slips of paper so my family can add suggestions, when I get stuck I'm going to pull one out and do whatever is on it:) I have a feeling that it will help improve not only my quick sketching abilities but also other points that I have trouble with, simply because I'm forcing myself to expand away from my comfort zone:D
Omfg, I want to do this. When my hands are okay again. :) Might as well start a new blog for this as I don't want to litter my lj or dA account with sketches xD
Could you guys scan some of your stuff to a website or blog and maybe share some of it on here (via links)? I can't draw worth beans, but I love to look at it!
I was so behind a couple of days ago, but then I started drawing pictures of my Na No 2011 novel and now I’m caught up. It is a combination of thumbnails sketches and set up scenes to be drawn. Thanks for the inspiration this is great fun, but I know I will get behind again I’m sure. Hope everyone else is having fun as well.
This sounds like a good idea, I'm starting late though lol but I really need to improve my drawing skills, because I suck at drawing -__- I'm gonna start on the 18th :D
This sounds like a great idea. I'm an illustration major, so I do a fair bit of drawing during the semester, but not much for fun or practice, and I tend to not lift a pencil on vacation. I should try being more disciplined about it. I'll be coming in late for this (story of my life, lol) but I'm going to give it a shot.

sorry, didn't mean to post twice...
Re: 365 Sketchbook
Hi AlainainthSky
Hi comit
I'm interested in trying this.
I have several things going on at one time. It will get my creative juices flowing.
Will touch base with you weekly if that is okay.
Happy writing, reading, and drawing.
Re: 365 Sketchbook
If you want to make it the full year, you'll have to make it 366 days. 2012 is a Leap Year! :-)
I'm considering doing this, only with photography. I've got 21.5 more hours to decide.
Re: 365 Sketchbook
Sketching every day is a hard thing to do. I think I'll give it another go this year :)
Re: 365 Sketchbook
I am so in!!!!!!! I probably will be a day behind because I won't do one for today, but I'll do two tomorrow:) (Or is that cheating?)

Re: 365 Sketchbook
Oh, and does this mean just various doodling or actual basic finished sketches? :)

I'm totally done with this. I need to get better with sticking with actually doing artwork, ya know.

Re: 365 Sketchbook
Oh man! I wish I saw this earlier! That sounds awesome!
Maybe I will do a haiku a day instead because I did start an art journal recently however I have not done that in a while either.
