My story is done and it's not as terrible as I thought it would be :). I'm still in shock that I actually made it to the 50K. I let it sit for a couple of days, but I couldn't wait to start editing. I don't know what I'll do with it, but I would like to take the project to a completed state, just for my own satisfaction. I am not a writer by profession. The only things I've published are technical papers. It surprised me how much I enjoyed the writing and how attached I became to my story and the characters. This has been a wonderful experience. I'm grateful to the nanowrimo folks for doing the event and all the participants on the forums. I finished with a few days to spare, I did some editing last night. I had to rearrange chapters, because I wrote them when I got the idea for them. I cleaned up the typos, and for the characters that only had placeholder names, I gave them permanent names. I numbered all the chapters. I want to give each chapter a title too - in Don Quixote the chapters all have wordy titles, so I want to do that with my book. But right now, I have my book loaded up on my Kindle, and I'm reading it. I find it easier to spot flaws when I read it that way as opposed to reading in an editor. I'll take notes and make another edit, and then it will be good enough to let a couple people read it. I may need to expand in places, and perhaps contract in places, but I'd have to say Don Quixote on Mars isn't looking too bad.
