Heh...there's a challenge for everyone. Somewhere around, there's even Book In A Day.

I'm going for NaNoFiMo, then NaNoReWriMo, then NaNoEdMo. That should keep my next few months very busy.

But heck! If you get your draft done in a week, you can take on each one of these 'Mo's a week at a time and have a novel ready to send off to the publishers in a month. Of course you'd have to give up sleep. And Dancing With The Stars...

Go into the Overachiever's Thread. Click on the original poster's profile (sushimustwrite), check her graph to see when she wrote 50,000 words. Cry.

The crying is optional.

I giggled so hard at this.

Seriously, though, you willing people sound like you can be overachievers. Join us. You know you want to. We're a big happy family, so give a novel in a week a shot! You can do it!

sushimustwrite, I did go and look at your stats, and it looks like you hit 50K on the first day. I don't even understand how that's humanly possible! Granted, a fast typist can type 6000 words an hour. But to write what looks like an average of 2000 words an hour over a 24-hour period? Is that really what you did? How?

I'm not questioning your stats—not at all. I'm just so flat-out amazed by your speed on that first day, I'd like to hear about how you did it. Were you working from a very detailed outline? Had you been rehearsing the scenes in your head during the last week of October?

Just curious... =smile=

Sometimes though, it is obviously a cheat though (not saying sushimustwrite is one). If you go to the winner's list (under Fun Stuff), the first person had a million words. but look at their chart, and it's obvious it was fake.

I have to say, I think it is possible, honestly to write prose. I wrote 10k in 3 hours on the 7th in Nov. Because I was finishing up the story. I couldn't believe I had done it, but I had input 40k at midnight then just started writing and 3am I had 50k. And it was a workable prose that I've had so much fun with.

I didn't think writing so much was possible, but I finished NaNo in a week last year. So yeah, I did it just recently too, just a couple weeks ago, another idea grabbed me and I wrote 50k in 5 days... so it's possible, I'm working it down to see what works.

For me it just depends on if the idea grabs me and drags me along with it or not. Or if I have to think too much about what is going to happen then it goes slower. I wrote for five days and only got 14k, then that idea a week ago grabbed me and refused to let me go. Granted, I get irritable a little during those runs because it seems like EVERYONE is trying to get me to do anything but Write.

Then when I'm not writing, suddenly they don't need me to do much else :P

That's just my 2 cents. A week is totally doable, I did it in November, and I worked two of those days, so yeah.

Um... write a novel in a week?

Addy Silver

I swear, I was gonna do this, but then my motivation DIED. And now, I'm like, well... December 11 instead of December 7 can't be ALL that bad... Can it? It's still about 4000-5000 words a day... And I'm actually really in love with this story...
But, I do warn you that if you try to edit in a week, you WILL go crazy. I'm totally serious. I tried it, and I gave up writing for about six months, screaming into the wind, 'WHY DID I DO THIS AT ALL?!??!?" And then came Nanowrimo. And now I'm writing a book in eleven days. Go figure.

I really want to, but I'm just itching to edit my novel and I can't start one project without finishing something else I need to do.

Fiona W

Are you sure you only have one novel there, Captain Lonewolf? A round sum of a million words sure sounds like more than one novel to me! =shakes her head in amazement=

Well... If I manage to double my writing speed... Maybe next year. It's a possibility. It will mostly depend on my outline and how much I'm feeling said outline... I'll have to start working on one as soon after Camp as I can, while hopefully working on editing my Camp novel(s)... Holy crap next year is going to have a lot of writing in it. That's... Daunting. Even more so than trying 50k in a week.

Much thinking needs to be done...

Piper the Perfect

I can't believe I'm saying this. Listen to yourself Piper, you're insane! You can't do this!

What do you mean I can't? I'm on a 13 day streak on 750words.com. That doesn't mean anything!

I wrote two novels in two years! 50k each! Ok that has merit. But it took you a month!

It will be good practice if we don't get it anyway. Fine!

We'll sign up for it ASAP!

Haha, omg. I actually wrote 50k in the first week of Nano and was pretty proud of it. Now I'm stuck with an ulnar nerve syndrom on both arms. (I guess my carpaltunnel syndrom went away after being at home for almost the entire month of December.) Before that, I wrote about 800 words in 15 minute word wars. Now I'm stuck with "ah, omg, so uncomfortable" when I try writing for about 10 minutes or so...

Guys, please only do this if you are pretty sure you won't hurt yourself. xD (Okay, I have to tell you that my job consists mainly on typing (sometimes lots of typing within a very short time) and carrying around heavy paper so therefore if you're not writing all day long you can easily do that without hurting yourself imho.)

Well, at least it's not 50k weekend. I can't imagine how to pull that off. xD

I did it last year (or it may have been the year before, not sure now ... long day!) It was a killer! The house was a tip and I barely ate - the aim was 48 hours but I managed it in around 56 ... sadly nobody paid up because I didn't hit the deadline ... I kind of needed some sleep in that time! I don't think 56 hours is bad for 50,000 words, personally.

My next challenge is for the Alzheimers Society again but it's a gut wrenching 2 MILLION words ... even though I love writing I'm not sure I'm equal to this but I will do my best!

Piper the Perfect

Someone did a 46k DAY right before the end of Nano. And they succeeded. Definitely one of the greatest things to see in Nano history. There needs to be a list of these achievements somewhere.

Can I just say...I did NaNo in 17 days last November and sent the book to a publisher in January, and my book is coming out in April. It's not completely insane to think it can happen pretty fast.

OH. MY. GOD. I must do this.
But I can't do it alone.
Who wants to partner up!?!?!

Saspirilla

Hmm... I can managed 6k on a really good day if someone else is feeding me and I start early. Bit difficult to keep up for 7 days though.

Maybe an idea for summer. Have a dissertation to write that is 40% of my degree due on the 1st of May. Only 10k but it's all statistical analysis and critical literature reviews.

So do the overachievers have their novels REALLY planned out? Because....

Yeah that won't be me, but it would be nice to try at it.

cosmam

Not all of us! I'm a pantser through-and-through. Some people do, though.

The "trick" is knowing how you write, playing into that, and then just not stopping. It means that sometimes scenes don't turn out how you want, but instead of fiddling around with Chapter 3 all day, you write the next 4 and make a note to fix it during editing.
