A late burst of inspiration!

After a November with 0 words written I've been extremely discouraged. It was as if my muse simply deserted me, if it was ever there at all, and I hated how I could sit in front of a blank page without so much as a plot bunny to pass the time.

Today, out of absolutely nowhere, inspiration struck and I have been furiously scribbling notes in my Moleskine in attempt to plan for the project I've come to love - a collection of short stories which may or may not end up turning into a novel once the planning is finished, about a family called the Burtons and each member's life years after losing the mother.

I can't say much, as I haven't planned too much out yet, but one sister, the younger, will be completely out of control with some sort of mental disorder (I am thinking Borderline Personality Disorder, pyromania, or sociopathy), blaming the mother's death on her father, whilst the other sister, the elder, will be a writer-type who avoids the subject of her mother's death like the plague and is trying to quit smoking cigarettes. Chaos will ensue as this family clashes. I'm not sure what to do with the father yet but I'm sure the muse will return with even more brute force than he already has and I will be back in business after hours of character building.

Anyone else, out of absolutely nowhere, come up with an idea they're in love with so far in December? I'd love to meet other writers who are starting a brand new project, rather than writers who are editing or re-writing their Nanos or a previous project.

Sounds great; I hope you go through with your plans!
As for me, I really want to finish my NaNo novel (though I highly doubt I will do so much as edit the thing), but aside from that, I have been thinking of other new novel ideas. As a matter of fact, a small plot idea or two just popped into my head earlier today, so I am hoping I can elaborate on those!

Feeling bored and lonely on my first week back to a charity I go to where I was the only one to attend I was sat twiddling my thumbs, miserable thoughts which were particularly unwanted because I needed to focus on the positive in teh year ahead not the negative (I already know this year will be negative in that it will throw some horrible challenges at me - it already has). I had that horrible "still" feeling which I know means that there will be tears at some point. I had my pen and paper out but was basically doodling.

Suddenly it was 2 hours later and my Centre Manager was sat talking to me which gave me a fright - yet she'd been there for the last half hour. I looked down and I'd frantically written the synopsis (not quite finished but quite a bit done - 10 pages) of the outline of a book!!! I had absolutely no idea what I'd written but Jan said i'd been so engrossed that all I'd done was grunt when she spoke to me. :-) Lucky she saw the funny side of it - she'd even made me a coffee and I had let it go cold because i hadn't known it was there! :-) Freewriting at its best! :-)

When I read it back I was surprised - the story flowed from the page of a child who is being bullied because there is something different about her (not decided what it is yet), has problems at home and is trying to cope with everything. It is flowing naturally so I've decided I will owrk on that. i did work with children for a few months of the age group it was about so maybe that had something to do with it - children tend to gravitate to me and I seem to have started specialising in children's stories which was a surprise because it wasn't my plan.

As for you I hope you continue to write and finish your book. Keep us updated.
