Didn't hit 50k but I still won

So, I "lost" again. Third time in a row. It was kind of expected, really. I'm a full-time college student, working part-time, trying to move, trying to find a new job, and in a new-ish relationship. So writing kind of took the backseat.
But even though I didn't hit my expected goal, I finally enjoyed writing again.
I love nanowrimo and script frenzy. They've helped me write stories I might not write otherwise and learn more about writing and myself. But I realized something this year- every year I stress myself out with trying to hit 50k, with trying to write a great novel with great characters and a brilliantly original plot, and with writing "real" prose.
"Real" prose to me was the kind that paints a vivid picture with indirect words. The kind that doesn't just give you a blueprint of the world these characters are living in but the emotions and energy that holds it all together. And, yes, those are nice things but there are other styles. If all writing styles were the same, it'd be a very boring world indeed.
I got some pretty harsh feedback a while back about my writing. It seemed like I hadn't done anything right with the first novel I'd finished. So, for years, I've tried to change the way I wrote so that it'd be right and real.
This year, I realized that if I'm writing something I enjoy and that I can really picture, that's when my story will be fun to write and read.
So, yeah, I think I won something this year.
