Hey hey hey! This is a shout-out to any WriMo bros in the Juneau area! I recently moved to Juneau from Wasilla in order to acquire a higher form of education, but tragically this meant that I had to leave behind a really awesome writing group and NaNoWriMo community. However, I live in hope that I will still find WriMos down here! And if there aren't any, then so help me I will start a TREND
And any college students should let me know that they exist because I WANT TO MEET YOU. I WANT TO MEET YOU SO INCREDIBLY BADLY.
I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THAT TOO. I'm in Auke Bay rather than downtown Juneau, but I'm still seriously looking forward to write-ins of some kind. I don't even know if there's an ML for our area, though; I don't think there is. I dunno; we'll figure it out.
Lovely to meet you! Have you done NaNo before, or...?
Also you get ALL THE PONTS for your username like seriously I was SO INTO that series for the longest time. I was even on the official DAB messageboard and EVERYTHING. It was great. :D
Hahaha oh yeah, my username. Thank you! Had it for ages...Loved that series, too. Still do, as a matter of fact. Every book in hard cover (packed away in storage, unfortunately).
Yeah, this'll be my...5th or 6th year NaNoing. Lemme think...started in 07, so this will be 6 (and from [s]stalking[/s] looking at your profile, looks like we're in the same boat!). I'm downtown, and I feel like the Rookery would be a great spot for write-ins.
Yup, 6th-year WriMo here! And YES, totally the Rookery, ahaha. I had a cup of coffee there during the semester orientation and I totally spent the entire visit looking around going "YOU KNOW WHAT THIS WOULD BE GOOD FOR? NANOWRIMO." And the girl with me was kind of confused and clueless, but that's okay.
Pffft this is kind of ridiculous though, I know we're not the only Juneauites doing NaNo this year! WHERE'S EVERYONE ELSE
I know last year a number of people met for things at the Public Libraries. Also occasional meetings at the Waffle Co. I've never been able to go to one of the library meetings because it doesn't work with my schedule. Hoping to meet with people this year at other places and other times.
Last post: 3 days ago. People on board: 3. Conclusion: board is dead. Am I going to try anyway? Why not?
I'm the the valley area, and I didn't get to make a single meeting last year. (insert sad face here) My problem is really that I don't have a laptop, and as I'm continuing a half-written novel on google docs, I can't hand write like I did my first year (insert an even sadder face here). So I probably won't be able to make any write ins, but if we do any pre-nano get outs or TGIO parties, I'd be happy to show up. (insert semi-happy face here)
But HEY Inkblot! I refuse to let this thread die. I REFUSE. You and I and Redwall and Kdreamer are going to have to get together and have meetings. Just. NO. I refuse to stomach a NaNoWriMo spent alone.
Which is actually rather amusing to me, since the first few times I did it were by myself. Then I got a laptop, my friend dragged me to a write-in, and I never really looked back. The NaNo community is just so great, you guys, online and off. I JUST WANNA MAKE *ALL* THE WRITER FRIENDS
I'm with you there, writer friends are nice. But when November comes round, I'm gonna be holed up next to my computer... *sigh* no laptop. Not for another two years. *sigh* There used to be a whole lot more people, but we I guess they all gave up....
Wow, I saw your icon and I was like "OH MY GOSH, YOU LIVE IN ALASKA TOO?!?!" And then I was excited for like 2 seconds before I remembered... I'm in... the AK regional forums...
Anyway, nooo! Don't let a lack of portable computing devices keep you from hanging with us!! If there IS an "us"... Mrrrr *pout* I WANNA MEET PEOPLE
Don't mind my whining. I whine on a nigh-incessant basis. It builds my character.
I still think we should have actual write-ins! I mean, who cares if only 2 or 3 (or even just 1) show up? It'll still be a blast. As far as locations, I just recently (as in, about a week ago) discovered a tiny little place called B's Bakery and Bistro. It's down the street from Wells Fargo and Heritage. They serve loose-leaf teas and coffee and actual food type items. Pretty quaint atmosphere with a mishmash of furniture and they have decent wifi. And then the Heritage down the street isn't terrible, either. There is a cool restaurant-style booth, although the place seems to be crowded a lot.
Does anyone know of any good places that are open past 6? Because I feel like everything downtown closes at 6.
Ummm the Waffle Co. is open until midnight most nights! And it's got pretty good wi-fi as well. Plus it's closer to campus, which is a bonus for me and any other college students without reliable transportation...
alright, well, blasphemy, at least. They have fantastic Italian sodas..... and board games.... and pictures.... and coffee... and waffles, of course. :)
Dang expensive waffles! But they're pretty delicious :P I was dubious as to whether they'd have enough space for us initially (every time I enter a coffee shop I scout it out to see if it would be good for NaNo meetups), but considering the turn-out that it looks like we're gonna have, it seems like the perfect size.
I vote we set a time and a place and see if it works! Aye? Nay? AARRR? I mean if we have a write-in there and we decide THIS SUCKS we can always move.
Hey hey! Only got here in May, and living and working in Downtown without a car isn't conducive to Valley trips. Of course, I have had a car for the past two weeks...*cough cough* But yes! Let's set up a time! I'll find out my work schedule tomorrow, but if I'm free, I'd love to have a write-in on the 1st to kick things off in, if not style, some kind of fashion. Also, sounds like a fantastic place.

Juneau college student's assemble! There isn't an ML for our area, but a few of the librarians do NaNo and occasionally act MLish
O-omg are you a STUDENT AT UAS PLEASE SAY YES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
True.
Sorry, for taking so long to reply. I never know if somebody's replied so I forget to check...
Clearly, us Alaskans rock, as we are the first ones in the regional forums.
Huzzah! I was so worried I might not find anyone else WriMoing in Juneau. I'm new to Juneau since May, and definitely looking forward to November.

Sobs on floor because I miss having an ML

Also, my roommates might be participating in NaNo! I'll try and get them to hop on the forum one of these days.
Anyone else...?? *Cups hands around mouth* ANYONE
I mean, if all else fails, we can set up a chat group or something. A chat group... of obscurity... and 3 people...
But we can still make it awesome. I'LL MAKE IT AWESOME.

Ooh, I have been meaning to try out that place.
You've never been to waffle co? SACRILEGE!!!
