Stanford Campus Write-ins

So turns out there's a NaNoWriMo class at the university - that's right, people actually give us school credit to go crazy for a month! - and as part of class we're all hosting unofficial write-ins across campus. There's one (that I'm hosting) tomorrow, Saturday the 3rd, at 7:00PM, in the lounge of Roble Hall. Anyone's invited, and the more the merrier. It'll last as long as there're are still people there willing to go on.

Hopefully students will update this thread to post the times of their own write-ins - in general, we're talking every day of the week but Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hope to see some of you there!

I was wondering if anyone was going to host some write in's on campus. I almost took the class but found it wouldn't fit in my schedule and really decided to to Nano on a whim.

It would be nice to see others on campus who are participating.

It's usually one of the special topics courses (ENGLISH190T) for fall quarter, so ExploreCourses doesn't usually list out the course content. If you're on the cw-undergrads list, they usually send out announcements for the creative writing lottery (including the course description).

Hey all -- so not exactly a write-in, but I figure this is the closest to a Stanford thread we have. If anyone wants to go to the pan-Bay TGIO party, I'm getting a ride from campus with Whitney Peets, the South Bay region ML. She has space for three more, so if you're free that Saturday and want to come, let one of us know? :D

I'm "Forwarding" an email here for you all:

Dear NaNoWriMo participants,

We'd like to invite you to take advantage of the lively NaNoWriMo community here at Stanford by participating in a write-in at the HWC. We'll hold a final-stretch write-in tomorrow, Tuesday Nov 27, from 7-10 PM in the HWC.

Come by, meet other writers participating in NaNoWriMo, and get re-invigorated for the final sprint towards Dec 1. Light snacks will be provided.

Please share this announcement with your fellow NaNoWriMo participants!

Best,

Re: Stanford Campus Write-ins

Just passing along another message from my friend Rachel (rkolb@) who's writing a NaNoWriMo story for Stanford Magazine.... Please only fill out the form if you're a Stanford student!

Hello, working novelists!

I hope the month of writing is going well as your novels round to completion! I'm writing about an upcoming story for Stanford Magazine, in which we plan to feature student writers participating in NaNoWriMo. We'd absolutely love to feature as many of you as possible. I hope all of you decide to share your experiences and last sentences with us, so here are a few details:

1. Please go to and fill out the following Google survey as soon as you can: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHJZWV9XODlJVEtsYTZhbHZzcVNmT1E6MQ#gid=0. At this point, we're looking for first sentences, too, as well as any stories you might have to share about your novel or the NaNoWriMo writing experience! Have fun with it.

2. The magazine is working under a tight deadline as we attempt to get your stories into layout and sent off to the publisher by next Wednesday, 12/5. Since this Friday is the last day of November (and presumably you will all be master novelists by then), I will email out again that day requesting your last lines and your final word counts. Please, if at all possible, reply by Sunday 12/2 if you'd like us to consider them for publication!

Let me know if you have any questions, and by all means feel free to email to chat about everything novel-related (I'm a writer, too, and would love to hear about how this month has been for all of you!). Looking forward to being impressed by your creativity and productivity.

Thanks ever so much,
Rachel
