Google Events Calendar

Hi all,

As you can see, I have begun to get our region's events calendar set up.

So if you already have some Write In location ideas/plans, go ahead and let me know. That way I can get them posted.

cheers,
K

Hello!

Do you know if any DC libraries or indie bookstores (thinking of Politics and Prose) are having events?

Thanks for any info! I'm primed and ready to type!

Re: Google Events Calendar

Hey Adrienne, I'm unsure about any DC libraries that do any events. P&P tends to do their own thing every November in regards to NaNo. They are not officially affiliated with the DC NaNo group, so I am unsure what events they have planned. You'll have to check their website or contact them to see if they have anything planned. They usually do at least a few things.

If you're looking for write-ins, meet-ups, parties, etc., keep your eyes on the forums here. Lots of stuff will be going up as we get into November. Also, come by the Kick-off Party on the October 28. We can hopefully answer any questions you have, and it's a great place to meet fellow writers. Hope to see you there!

Re: Google Events Calendar

I'm looking forward to having some sort of write-in along or accessible by the Green Line.

For central location, I think the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop would be a really good place for a modest write in, as people on the Green or Red lines can get to there without much of a problem, from Bethesda to College Park, and I don't even think it would be that hard for GW students to metro or bike there either. Chinatown Coffee is a good local place a close walk from that stop. I could try to contact their store and set up some space for a group if anyone's interested?

Also good ideas: Politics N Prose would be a great place for a write-in though a little harder for me personally to get to.
Columbia Heights: Sticky Fingers
U Street: Bus Boys N Poets (great place, plenty of space, just gotta make sure we don't time a write-in while there's a lot of people there or a band playing)

I also proposed a "write-in Metro tour" as an idea, having an alternate location every week or something, though that would require slightly more coordination and effort than settling on one or two places. Just throwing it out there as a fun way to get to know the District area for newcomers. I'm sure it would not be hard for a lot of these local coffee shops and/or bookstores to host a write in if we contacted them soon enough.

Hey...

I haven't heard from any of the libraries at this point. But I'm fairly certain that someone could go to the various libraries and ask to reserve a room for a write in.

I'm thinking of having some write-ins at SoHo Tea & Coffee (a regular NaNo hangout, fairly close to where I work in the Dupont area) in the evening one day a week and possibly at Baked & Wired another night. Haven't figured out which night would be best for each. Willing to take suggestions. Thinking one Thursday and one Monday or Tuesday. Thoughts?

Re: Google Events Calendar

Having them later in the evening is a definite plus in my book. There are some coffeeshops that are open until 8-9pm, and there's always Busboys or Tryst, which are open until midnight (though sometimes it has live music).

Where would be convenient for you after work?

Hey, there. Could you change the Thursday Write-In location to SoHo. After finding out that B&W has no wireless and only having one person show up due to Metro access, etc. I'm thinking Dupont is a better place to meet. I've already left a message in the original Write-In thread to alert others where I'll be.

Thanks!
