As we’ve mentioned a few times, NaNoLanta is partnering with the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company (ARTC) for the 2011-2012 season. We’ll be using our little corner of the internet to help the ARTC get the word out about their upcoming Halloween weekend shows. Additionally, ARTC will use the live performance as an opportunity to promote literacy and creative writing by supporting the Office of Letters and Light, organizers of National Novel Writing Month and donating 25% of all ticket sales to this cause.

Because of this, we’ll be working the two ARTC shows into our kickoff schedule this year. Of course, this means we’ll be doing kickoffs a little bit differently than we have in years past. Instead of having a morning and evening kickoff, we’ll be doing two larger evening kickoffs and one smaller early afternoon kickoff on the weekend before NaNoWriMo. The schedule is below:

Saturday, October 29th 6pm – Large Kickoff #1 at The Academy Theatre
Saturday, October 29th 8:00pm – ARTC presents The Horseman of the Hollow
Sunday, October 30th 12:30pm – Small Kickoff at The Academy Theatre
Sunday, October 30th 2:30pm – ARTC presents The Horseman of the Hollow
Sunday, October 30th 6:30pm – Large Kickoff #2 at The Varsity

The kickoffs before the shows are free to attend. We’re keeping the Sunday kickoff before the show slightly more low-key in case people would like to bring their families to one of the showings. Tickets to the shows are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. You can buy them online by clicking here

So book your show plans for kickoff weekend! Remember, 25% of the ticket proceeds go to NaNoWriMo, so please tell your friends and family members to come out and support us and the ARTC. We’ve included a little blurb about the show, just in case anyone needs some further convincing:

On Halloween weekend, the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company will present The Horseman of the Hollow by Kelley S. Ceccato as a part of the Sleepy Hollow Ride Across America event. This nationwide celebration of American storytelling will feature a cascading time line of the famous tale of the Headless Horseman. As the ride begins in Boston with the original tale, participating audio theatres in Atlanta, GA, Ada, OK, and Seattle, WA, will bring Ichabod Crane’s nemesis into progressively more modern times, culminating in a present-day telling on the west coast.

Presented in the format of live audio, audiences will be treated to examples of how the classic radio dramas were performed with actors on microphone, live Foley sound effects, and an immersive soundscape that encourages the listener to imagine for themselves a setting they are unlikely to see in any other live theatrical show or even the biggest Hollywood blockbuster.

Please RSVP to the kickoffs by using the form linked below:
2011 Kickoff RSVP Form

We'll be handing out goodie bags again this year, and they'll go to the first 72 to RSVP. You do not have to attend a show to come to a kickoff, though we strongly encourage you to try and make both. The pre-show kickoffs are free to attend either way.

If you have any further questions, respond to this thread and we will try to give you an answer asap!

I RVSPed to the Varsity. Sorry, I didn't get my regions set up until after the first kick off. Had to reset up account after mysterious deletion. Can't come to the second kick off at The Academy Theater cause I have a haunted house to setup- and I can PROBABLY make it to the Varsity. However, if my mom/dad suddenly change mind...
It happens.

Rats! I have a songwriters' group that night.

May be for the best as I'm loathe to commit to NaNoWriMo because I've got a baby due at the end of the month. Erm, my wife has the baby due...not me.

That's okay! You're still welcome to come to events and give it a good try! No shame in making you're best effort and coming out with part of a book :)

Plus, if you know the due date, just plan to write a little extra each day so you can finish early. :) Two birds with one stone!

Sent in my RSVP! HOPING that MARTA's schedule is right and service continues until 1 am Sunday, otherwise I might only get to stay for a half hour of the Varsity kickoff. (Varsity is the North Ave. MARTA station, right? On the N-S line?)

Or is anyone from the South Side planning on driving to the Varsity kickoff and wouldn't mind an extra passenger? I don't mind pitching in for gas, and I don't bite!

Yep, the Varsity's a few blocks from the North Avenue station on the N-S line. I've made the trek plenty of times before with no problem. See you there!

I've already RSVP'd for Saturday using the form, but I figured I'd drop in and share with the forum. Gotta start racking up some thread comments -- I'm sure they'll be my lifeline/form of procrastination once NaNo starts. :))

I went to the kickoff last night. Awesome, as expected! It is wonderful being able to put faces to NaNo names and to hear what everyone is working on. The show! Well, it was like chocolate frosting on a cake.

Don't miss out. Get to a kickoff and the show today. You will not regret it.
