You might have noticed some hints around the internet about a super-secret project we’ve been planning for NaNo this year. You might have also heard about NaNoWriMo’s awesome fundraiser out in San Francisco—the Night of Writing Dangerously.
Well, since most of us don’t have the means to travel out to California for an amazing writing party, we decided to host our own one here! This year, NaNoLanta will present the first annual Evening of Writing Wildly.
The Evening of Writing Wildly will take place on Sunday, November 20 (the same day as the Night of Writing Dangerously) from 5-10pm and will be an event of epic proportions: half write-a-thon, half party, and all parts EXTREMELY AWESOME. Oglethorpe University (in the Brookhaven area of Atlanta) was generous enough to allow us the use of a large room in their student center for the occasion.
This jungle-themed evening will feature fabulous prizes, speakers, performers, contests, and of course, lots of writing time! Whether you’re looking for that extra push on your NaNo novel, wanting to celebrate all that NaNo has done for you, or just eager for a night of fun and friends, the Evening of Writing Wildly has it all.
We're still trying to get dinner donated, but if not, dinner will be potluck, so if you’d like to partake in the food you must bring a dish (let us know on the sign up form if you're willing to bring a dish. If we do potluck, we'll coordinate so we don't get 87 bags of salad.) And since this is a fundraiser, we’re asking for a $25 donation with your registration. This donation will grant you admission to the event and get you five tickets toward the nights’ amazing raffle prizes.
So get ready to go wild! And keep your eyes out—in the coming weeks we’ll reveal even more details about this epic event.
YES! This is open to Anyone in Any region who wants to come and make the donation to get in! We'd LOVE to see folks from other regions come down for it.
There will be more ways to earn raffle tickets at the event, including an extra ticket for every extra 5 dollars you donate there. We'll get into those specifics soon! (We want to build up the suspense a little :D)
Since we're trying to finalize what we'll need regarding tables/chairs/plates/etc, we'd love it if anyone planning to attend could RSVP by Sunday, November 13. We want to make sure we have enough for everyone :)
Aaah, I wish I could be there, but this is the year I TOLD myself I'd be going to the official NOWD. But we'll have wifi in both places, so we'll figure something out. :D
Parking is free on campus. (I'll look into the most convenient lot on campus and get more specific directions)
Marta is right there, but we'll probably want to have a "shuttle" from the station to the campus (it's a wide, busy road and the station is a little ways down...don't want to lose any Pandas trying to cross!). I'll be happy to do some pick ups from the station to make things easier for people :)
So I've been something of a traitor and joined the Raleigh-Durham region this year since I'm in the area for the next four years of college. But I'll be back in Atlanta for break in time to attend. Am I still allowed to go?

Any word on whether you'd prefer tentatives to sign up now or wait till we know for sure? I'd LOVE to go, and I WANT to go, but it's contingent on how well things go with the family medical situation and the possibility of MAYBE carpooling with anyone coming from the South Side. I won't know until at LEAST November 3rd how the medical situation might play out, hence why I wanted to know whether I should speak up and reserve a spot in case it fills up fast or try to wait. I'd hate to take a spot and not be able to make it and have someone else not be able to go, but at the same time I'd hate to NOT sign up and then find out after it fills up (you never know!) that I CAN go. Bleh.
I'm tentatively planning on going...I won't be sure until early November either but I'd definitely be down to carpool if we're both able to go. Maybe we can find a few more folks from down here to come with us!
I'm in! I live right next to Oglethorpe anyway, and I'd be willing to do some fetching from MARTA beforehand or whatever. (After would be harder; I'm not much of a night owl. But we'll see.)
What a fabulous idea! I won't be able to make it, since I have to work on Sundays. Is there anything non-going people can do to help out? Outside of write our brains out, of course!
Just RSVP'd. Not quite sure exactly how I'm getting there/getting back, but I'll figure something out. My chances of having my fellow Scotties come with me are greatly lowered by the entrance fee.
I am so sorry guys, but some family stuff has come up and i'm not going to be able to make it tonight. I hate that i'm going to miss out on meeting everyone. However, to make it up to you, I'll be making a donation tonight in honor of the evening of writing wildly (if that's possible, if not i'll just make a donation).
Feel free to drop a donation under your name! Looks like we'll be doing this again next year. Can't guarantee it yet but all signs point in that direction!

Also. Since Oglethorpe was kind enough to donate the room to us for the evening, all Oglethorpe students only need to donate $15 to get in :)

This sounds so exciting! Will we be able to park for free at Oglethorpe, or is MARTA convenient, or what?
Re: NaNoLanta's Evening of Writing Wildly - Nov. 20th, 5:00-10:00pm
It is marta convenient. We're gonna check up on parking.
