Can't Update Your Word Count?

Hi friends!
Just a little public service announcement - by now you should have a little blue box at the top of your screen next to where it says "Howdy, (your user name)!" whenever you're on the NaNo website. That little blue box will have a 0 in it and a red "Update Word Count" link next to it. This is, clearly, what you should use to update your word count.
If this has not appeared yet, you are probably in the wrong time zone! So under "My NaNoWriMo" take a look at your "Edit User Settings" menu (this is the same place where you reset your password - there's a menu to change your time zone too).
I can't stress this enough - MAKE SURE YOU ARE SET TO THE CORRECT TIME ZONE. If you're in the Chicagoland area, you should have it set to CST (Central Standard Time). If you don't have the correct time zone set, you could end up not being able to update at the correct time, AND/OR NaNo might end several hours early for you at the end of November!

P.S. If you read this thread, that means you are officially TAGGED. You must now switch over to your novel and write for 10 minutes straight. Set a timer. See how many words you can do in 10 minutes.
Yes. I am sneaky. But you better do it. Or else.

Novel-y LOVE,
Stacy

Re: Can't Update Your Word Count?

Well, I can update my word count, but it's doing weird things. Last year, if I just entered the words I had written thus far, the word update thing would calculate my total words written based upon what was entered the day before. Now, apparently, I have to enter EVERYTHING, including previous days' word count, or it will put me in the negative. This is a bad "new" feature that they've added. I wish they'd go back to what they used last year. This may seem a minor issue to many, but when you're absolutely ridiculously horrible at math, ANYTHING that makes you calculate something is a problem!

What I have been doing is going to "validate" my novel at the end of each day to update the word count sine I know that the nano counter is always a few words off from my word processor. I like to be extra sure about what my progress. Just click on the "I am ready to validate my novel" and copy & paste the whole thing in, click submit, wait about 10 seconds for it to update, and then click save.

BUMP. As we approach the end of NaNo, this becomes more relevant - please make sure your time zone is correct so you don't hit submit at 11:59 PM on November 30th, just to realize that NaNo ended for you 59 minutes ago 'cause you had your time set to EST!
