I'll be hosting a series of write-ins this year at the Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee. We'll meet Tuesday Nov 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th from 7-8:30pm in Community Room A. We'll have refreshments, word sprints and maybe a contest or two. No registration is required and all are welcomed. Go to our website www.wnpl.info for more info or message me here.
Maybe we need a cooler name? Open to suggestions.

Oooh, I'm in southeast Lake County but I've been looking for some write-ins in the evenings. Can't wait for November!

A new name, hmm . . . what about WaNewWriMo? Not the most creative, but it works!

I'm in Highwood/Fort Sheridan/Highland Park area. I'm checking out places to do write ins. Some of ones I might post may be impromptu but will try to do a weekly one when I find a place and whether I can make it or not, I'll make sure it's a place where Wrimos can go. I have done this I think 6 or 7 years (under this name and another one, won some, some not).

I have Nano-ed first in AL (shout out to Bama friends, miss you). Then in St. Louis (miss you too, hey Pat). Moved here about 3 mos ago.

Will try to make the Gurnee one if I can. Highwood has a library. Gonna check out Highland Park. And also Lake Forest is nearby but not too familar with places there. Fort Sheridan has a music place but i'm sure it's just for residents probably.

Hope to meet Lake County and Cook Co Wrimos soon. And of course want to venture into a write in in Chicago. My daughter told me a great place in Chicago area for writing. I'll ask her about it.

I am pretty flexible on times. Last year i was in lot of back pain, but still finished. Couldn't sit much or attend write ins. Had surgery. Feeling much better. Ready to sit and write!

I live near you and work at Oakton CC. We're hosting several workshops and write-ins this year, and they're open to everyone. I started another thread in this forum with more information. Oakton is about 20 minutes from you in HP.

I don't think any of the area libraries are hosting events this year, as none of them have anything scheduled. I'd be up for meeting you for impromptu events in November, though!

I have talked to Caribou Coffee and they are happy to have Wrimos in their new cafe in Lake Forest. Will be posting some dates soon for write-ins but please feel free to go any time, during NaNo or otherwise.

On Western Ave in Lake Forest. I'll post a regular write in time/dates, but like I wrote earlier, just a great place to write. Also talking to Lake Forest Book store about a discount. Metra stop there as well.

going to try one tomorrow, nov. 2 at 5 pm at Caribou coffee in Lake Forest, 620 N. Western Ave. I usually write during day/mornings but know that is difficult for some. We'll see how this goes. Hope you can make it.

Anyone in the Buffalo Grove/Vernon HIlls/Lincolnshire area? I'd love to attend some write-ins near me. Gurnee is much too far north, and everything else is too far south.

The Barnes & Noble in the mall at Rt 60 and Milwaukee Ave (used to be Hawthorne mall; I don't remember what they call it now) has a large cafe and I've often felt it would be good for write-ins.

I work in Lincolnshire, but don't get off until 7 pm or later. Weeknight write-ins will be hard for me, but I could give it a try. I'm open to weekends, though, say in the afternoon? I know two other people in this area who are participating and might be able to make the week-end ones as well. {Oops, I almost forgot. My work schedule may change in November which would mean I'll be working on Saturdays and off on Sundays and Mondays...they should let us know this coming week.}

On weekends I'd be willing to drive to Lake Forest Caribou. So Gena / Iggysgirl, those might work, too.

Hi Kat,

Isn't it still Hawthorne Mall? I was just there tonight, but I didn't pay attention to the outer signs, so I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, lol, it is still Hawthorne Mall. Just like where the Sox play, will ALWAYS be Comisky Park, no matter what cell phone service owns it, lol.

Weekends would be fine for me, especially in the afternoon if people wanted to meet there. I'm quite familiar with Barnes & Noble, and I especially like that one. I don't know why.

OK, well, if anyone wants to meet up in the Lincolnshire/Vernon Hills area, I'm game, so just let me know.

Have a good night!

Spatsy

For those of you near Waukegan, there is a great coffee shop downtown called Joplin's Java. They're a great group and involved with the arts scene; I'm sure they would have no problem having a bunch of writers show up.

That being said, if anyone would like to meet there, I am all for it.

I'll check out the coffee shop in Waukegan, sounds cool. Let me know if anything gets set up.

Hi all,

I live in Waukegan and work near Lincolnshire. So, I'll be trying to make the Tuesday night write-ins in Gurnee. I will also try to make the write ins near Hawthorne Mall (probably the easiest distance for me after work). Spatsy and Iggysgirl, I could totally make the write ins in Waukegan or Lake Forest on the weekends (and possibly during the week.)

IHawthorne Mall, the Lincolnshire/Vernon Hills area, and Lake Forest all have my vote.

Since I am not bound up with a job right now, the times for the meet-ups are not that important to me.

I prefer evenings closer toward the weekend though.

Hello everyone. I'm setting an impromptu write in for Wed. Nov 2, 5 pm at Caribou Coffee in Lake Forest at 620-624 North Western Ave. They close at 10 pm every night.

They are expecting NaNoWrimos this month (as I talked to them about it in October) and they are ready to help. Free WiFi, power outlets, tables ( largest table is actually a door that's been converted and really cool), etc. And coffee is excellent. They have sandwiches and tea also.

I usually go morning/afternoon hours and may have write ins then if anyone is interested in those times as well.

When are the Barnes Noble write ins at Vernon Hill?

See ya there, everyone welcome, from area or if you want to trek up, Metra station across the street. Street parking available. Book store down the street. I'm hoping they may give a discount month of Nov. to Wrimos.

See ya tomorrow,

Gena aka IggysGirl

I'm not going to be able to make tonight; my baby had me up until 3am and i feel like I've been hit by a bus. Blah. Hopefully I can make another time.

Hello my fellow Lake County-ers! Thanks to everyone for setting up some local write-ins. I definitely plan to make a few at the Gurnee Library. Maybe Lake Forest and Vernon Hills too. Good luck everyone.

Sorry, there was a mix up on calendar. Caribou coffee write in in Lake Forest is at 5 pm. But come whenever. They are open until 10. I won't last that long tonight but i'm here now. someone came early, as calendar had 4 pm originally. i'd also like to do a morning one. after 9 am. I was told evenings were dead but it's really busy here tonight. Maybe it's midterms at college, etc.

Caribou or other suggestions? this week and weekend is really busy for me (film work) but next week will be good. Or anyone in HP/Highwood/LF or or nearby want to go to one in Chicago, I'm game. Only been here 3 mos.

Anyone interested in meeting at Barnes & Noble in Hawthorne mall (Rt 60 & Milwaukee) this weekend?

I'll toss out Sunday afternoon (November 6) at 2 pm as a start time.

I'm so happy that I found this thread! I have been chilling over at the "Elsewhere, Illinois" forum which has it's own Lake County thread, but all of it is focused on the Waukegan or Zion area which is much too far for me. But Hawthorn Mall is just a few minutes away! This is my 4th year of Nano and we just moved here, so I'm excited that this area gets a little more NaNo action than where we previously lived.

I'm definitely up for B&N on Sunday.

Kat Gentian
53454 words so far Winner!

So far we've got 2 for Sunday afternoon at 2 at B&N Vernon Hills. (Don't just lurk if you may be there. Post and let us know!)

If this is not a good time for others, anyone else want to suggest something different?

I'll be in the cafe at Barnes & Noble, Hawthorne mall, hopefully by 2 pm. Stop by if you're in the area! I'll plan to be there until 4; later if there's a group of us.

I live in Libertyville and hope to be able to make it to some of these write-ins. In the meantime, I've taken over the dining room table. My husband and children will just have to eat in the kitchen. :-)

I may not be at the Lake Forest Write In this evening at 5 pm at Caribou Coffee. But feel free to go and carry on with the writing!
