I don't know about any of you folks feel the same, but I'm starting to regret the story I'm writing. It may be because I've fallen behind in my word count or I'm stuck in a "okay, now what?" slump. A part of me wants to just scrap what I'm doing and start up a whole new story, but I know it's way too late for that.

Anyone else in the same or similar boat?

You know what - go for it. You can count the words you've already written. Come out to some write-ins and maybe you'll find inspiration there, but if you really feel like you've got a new story, go for it!

What Olivia said. You can do it! Either way, don't "scrap" anything.

At a certain point, you may find that you've powered through this slump and-- maybe by writing a parallel story or backstory or intra-story-- you'll discover more about the original idea or where to take it. I personally found that the 'now what?' dread of "what do I make happen next?!" transformed at a certain point (after a lot of forced writing) into a more exciting "what CAN I make happen next?!" But maybe that's some threshold you have to cross deeper in the novel. 35k? ;)

You could also imagine scenes you really want to see, or developments / action essential to the story, and just write them ahead of time. Not that we should all write our stuff finish-to-start, but you get what I'm saying.

I completely understand that feeling. I'm about 2 days behind and I feel like every word I grind out for this story is as difficult as pulling teeth. But we're too far in now to change course, so I guess steady as she goes?
We can do this! Hopefully!
