High School Writers (Northwest Suburbs)

Hello! Any of you high school writers from last year might remember me and Viper as heading up high school write-ins at the Des Plaines Public Library after school on Fridays. Currently, Viper is in college, so I'm left here as the senior from Maine South (Park Ridge) leading this up. I was wondering if anyone from the Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Niles area would be interested in having write-ins. The last few years I've been doing this have been rather popular. Possible meeting places are Des Plaines Public Library (preferable), Park Ridge Public Library, or any other location, such as cafes, etc. So, if you're interested, just reply here with what school you're from and what times/places would be best for you. If transportation is an issue, we usually have several people from each of the surrounding schools, so car-pooling may be an option. -nutmeg p.s.--> I prefer Fridays after school at the Des Plaines Library.

Hey guys! I don't know if you remember me from last year, but I'm Caitlin, one of the writers from Maine West who came to the write-ins at the DPPL last year. :) I would definitely be up for some more write-ins. Friday after school would be preferable for me as well, but I'm open to Saturday mornings too- it'll just be hard for me to get up, haha! I'm so glad we're going to try to do this again! The write-ins were incredibly helpful last year, so hopefully we'll be able to make this work! :)

Okay, as the writing buddies section of the site isn't working yet, I hope you are checking this. Here are some tentative times of meeting. Please let me know if you are interested in attending any. It's much more fun if people actually show up at a write-in! TENTATIVE TIMES: Friday, Nov. 4, 3:40ish-? Friday, Nov 11, All day off school. Decide on time... Friday, Nov 18, 3:40ish-? Thanksgiving break--> as wanted/needed Last year, we generally met every Friday after school and sometime during Thanksgiving break. The first person usually arrived around 3:40ish and we went until 5:00-5:30 depending on interest. Really, there was no set end time. All meetings are at the Des Plaines Public Library in the Teen Lounge on the third floor. Either we stay there or we head over to the reading room, whatever our mood. Transportation a problem? All of those times sound great. The only day I wouldn't be able to make it is the 11th, as I'm visiting a college that day. Also, just to let you know, my friend Jessica might be stopping in from college to join us on one of those days. :)

Count me out too for today. :( I have a Stats project that I've been putting off in favor of writing, and.... it's due tomorrow. So I can't really do that today, haha. Tuesday I'd probably (?) be able to do it, but I wouldn't be able to get there until about a quarter after four again.

Hey there. I live in what's called the "Island in the City", which is Norridge. Transportation is not a problem for me, and I'd love to go to any write-ins in Des Plaines. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to make it on November 18th, and any time during Thanksgiving break. :) Can't wait.

If we're still doing 3:40ish on the 18th, I won't be there until around 4 or 4:30, considering I'm out of school at 3:15 and it might take a while to get out of the house and get over there. But I'll definitely be there. ^^

And yes, my word count meter looks really low, but I just haven't updated it in a long time and I've mostly been plotting so I can plunk out the last 25k over thanksgiving break. I always do this, so it's not a disaster, just a learned art of having too much to do and not enough uninterupted time! And COLLEGE APP ESSAYS HATE ME!!!

I can't make the write in today because I'm leaving from Augie at 1 and won't be home until 4, but I'm totally up for a write in on Friday. Anyone know if DPPL has strange hours because it's right after Thanksgiving? If not, I'm thinking an afternoon meet up would be great. Let me know what you're thinking :)

I'll be heading back to college tomorrow and since I didn't get a chance to see all of you before I left, here's the best of luck to you in finishing off NaNo. Also, a word of advice about CreateSpace's offer this year for five free copies of your book. These are "published" copies, assigned an ISBN number. If you so choose to go through and have your novel "published" to obtain these copies, understand that this, in the eyes of a publishing house, counts as being published and you won't be able to sell this book regardless of the fact that you've only purchased "published" copies for yourself. If you're not planning on publishing, that's not a problem, for anyone like me who does plan on querying an agent eventually, that's a huge problem. Just wanted to throw this out there to avoid any of you making that mistake. Good luck to all of you!

Wait, wait. For previous years, you could just order a proof copy and didn't have to hit the "publish" button; you'd still get the one proof for free. Is that different now that they're offering five? Or do I misunderstand you?

Yes, that was the offer in previous years, but they changed it this year. Previous years were always a "free proof copy of your book." This year it is "five free copies of you book." I forget where the thread is, but there's a thread that details exactly how different this is.
