So here is my challenge to Naperville-homed folks in our Introduce Yourself thread that feeds our faces graph:

Post in this thread your current wordcount and your goal of at least 18000 additional words written by the end of November 30 (more is better!)
If you can make that goal by the end of November 30, I will make for you a plot critter! The more words over 18000 you are, the fancier I will be! So if you currently have 10,000 and end up with 28,000, you will win yourself a plot critter! If you currently have 0 and write 18,000, you will get a plot critter! If you have 172,000 and you end up with 214,000, I'll make you two or three special plot critters!

So help out the region! Post your pledge to take up this challenge! Note that delivery might not be until January (at our Journey first meeting) or at least sometime in December since there are preparations I need to do for the TGIO.

I'd prefer not to have to mail critters as the expenses add up and all of this comes out of my own pocket; all of our meetings are open to the public and in public venues--everyone is welcome to attend. If it is a matter of parental permission, you could note to them that our region has great partnerships with area libraries, especially a long standing one with the Naperville Public Library that goes back to 2006. Also, in addition to my polished credentials as a volunteer Municipal Liaison ;-), I'm also a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Alcatel-Lucent and a happily married parent of a student at Naperville North High School :-) I really hope you'll be able to come to our TGIO (note: depending on the number of folks taking this challenge and the number of critters I give out tomorrow and Sunday, I might not have all of them ready by December 3rd, but there is a chance). If not, we will have Journey events in 2012. If, after all of that, we aren't able to get the critter to you (and you make the 18,000 word total), nanomail me and we'll see what we can do. Good luck! 35,785 is what I'm at currently, and I've been needing some motivation to play catch-up. Which means 53,785 or more. (I'm pretty sure the only reason I've ever finished NaNo is because I went to Write Ins where I was motivated by buttons, so... shiny things = things I need? Let's find out!)

Here is the 11/26/2011 current snapshot: Lots of folks haven't even started on the challenge. Kudos to Squiddish for the rapid start (already at 77% of goal!) and to Kirsten for making it into the white (40% of goal). Many folks are making good progress! And yes, Thing 2, you can also win multiple critters for multiples of 18K words!

I did not complete the Challenge, not even close really, made it just over halfway. I still consider it a success so thanks Tim for putting it out there. It kept me writing every day. The previous three years I have done NaNo I have finished my story and 50K before Thanksgiving and then stopped. This year my main goal was to develop a daily writting habit that I could fit into my schedule. I managed to write every day this month for an hour a day, first thing after the kids were in bed, then dealt with the rest of life after that. I have been thinking about my first NaNo novel from 4 years ago, the one that was in my head for 20 years before I took the plunge. I have never taken it past that rough NaNo draft and I am finally ready to do that. I'm looking forward to starting that tonight after the kids go to bed. Thanks again for everything.

Thank you! And thanks for motivating me to keep writing after I hit the 50k mark. This was about staying in the habit of writing and that doesn't work too well if I stop partway through the story. If at all possible, could I get a bufferfly? I'm not sure if you'd be able to make one, but if you can't, then a lion please. I really liked the one you made before (that I think Squiddish ended up with?).

I don't see mine on the updated list, so I'm going to assume the comment got lost somewhere in the middle, but if at all possible could I get a butterfly? I have a slight obsession. If you can't make that, a lion would be great, because I really liked the one you made last time.

I'll be in St. Louis this weekend, so don't worry about bringing mine to the kick-off party. We'll have to find some other way to deliver it before I move (when? I'm not sure, exactly).
