South City write-in

Last year we had a write-in in the South Grand area at the Gelateria on Sundays. I was wondering if anyone would like to do this again this year. I'm open to location, I just like the idea of having a weekly write-in that's close to where I live. So if there's anyone one else who lives in South City who'd like to get together once a week, let's plot.

Before the forums were wiped, there was talk of using Shameless Grounds. I can't remember if there was a day of the week settled on, but I'm open to that location. My only request is that it's not Wednesday. Other than that, I should be free most week-day evenings.

I remember that, but didn't see it in the list of write-ins. I am really intrigued by the place. And any day but Wednesday works best for me as well.

I'd be up for it since I'm in south city ^_^

I am also in the South Grand area, and I absolutely do love Shameless Grounds. Just came from coffee there today. I don't travel around much at night, but if there are any other "daytimers" out there, I'd love to meet up during the day (weekday or weekend) there. I'm not suggesting this as an "instead of" the weekly evening write in, but as an 'in addition to." Any interest?

So so far it sounds like Shameless Grounds is a good space. If any days or times work particularly best for anyone, shout em out! I'm getting excited for November!

Since we haven't heard back from the person who originally posted the idea, I guess we should go ahead and agree on a day that works best for us.

I'm thinking it depends largely on what is scheduled to go on that day. Apparently, there's a movie night or something that happens in the library, so that should be a relatively quiet night. Trivia nights, in my experience are bad nights for concentration.

I'd look up which nights are which, but I'm at work, which is decidedly shame-full, and doesn't appreciate the kinds of things Shameless Grounds posts on it's events. Could someone check that out today/this evening and list out the nights that look most promising? Then we can vote on our top 2 or three, and see which days work best for the most people.

Anything on south grand is fine with me. I'm more of a day person than a night owl.

I looked up the calendar for Shameless Grounds. It appears trivia is Tuesday nights, Movie night is Wednesday nights. These are regular things, then there are lots of other non-regular events. Looks like music on Mondays (although it's just Jazz), various things on Thursdays, few things on Fridays too. They're also closed Nov. 4th through 6th.

I've never been to Shameless Grounds before, so can anyone attest as to whether or not it'd be difficult to find a quiet corner if some other event were happening? It looks like no matter what evening we pick, we'll be competing with something. I'd definitely vote no for Tuesday because trivia is always so loud. My vote right now is for Monday as it seems to have the least obtrusive other events. Wednesdays also seem good, I'd just have to miss two of the write-ins.

Mondays seem to be our best bet (so they get my vote). If it's too loud in the evening, the venue might have to change, but so far no one else has a write-in scheduled for Mondays.

I've been to SG twice so far. The main area has a couple of corners with couches, and then a stretch of tables running down one part of the space. Shouldn't be too bad, depending on if the band is loud.

We could also use our nano-powers to dominate trivia night and run the locals off so that we can have peace and quiet--if only the new website would activate our nano-powers.

We should probably ask Jen to put this on the calendar soonish... does anyone else want to chime in on an official day of the week & time frame?

+1 for the Monday 11am-4pm at Shameless Grounds idea.

FWIW, I think contacting the manager(s)/owner(s) is a good idea. Not because it would be an inconvenience to them or the other patrons, but because I'd want to know if I were in their place.

I will absolutely commit to the Monday 11 am to 4 pm slot. (no need to adjust times for me.) If y'all like, I can also contact the owners and let them know what we're plotting...Mondays nov 7, nov 14, nov 21, and 28, two slots, 11- 4 and 6 - 9. I'll check back here Sunday evening, and if no one else has said, "hell, no, I WANT to be the one to contact the owners," :-D, then I'll give them a call on Monday on our behalf.

SPEAKING OF NEXT TIME: Tonight, starting at 6, I'll be at Shameless, hopefully not writing alone. For identification purposes, I'm mostly bald under the hat, and have new glasses, but otherwise look pretty much the same.
