We do this thread every year (that I've been doing Nano, at least), and I'm shocked it isn't on here yet, so...

What's your Nano about this year?

I'll go first:

I have no idea. I think there will be gods, goddesses, aliens, and the end of the world. Perhaps even mutant hedgehogs.

I'm still not sure how to explain what it's about, but it does have shape shifters and other supernatural creatures, betrayal, and even a steamy love triangle!

Ruffian1313

Sounds interesting!

Nice. I like when things are/aren't there. Is he friendly? Misunderstood? Hot like Ghost Chili?

jemzgirl161

Uhh, so lemme try and sum this up.

Jace, my MMC, is recruited to a treasure hunting team. The other members of the team aren't all that happy about their leaders decision to add Jake to the team, but have to get over when they get a call to hunt down a lost family heirloom for a Spanish business man whose business isn't going so well. The team sets off on a wild chase to hunt down the heirloom while competing with a rival treasure hunting team hired by a cousin bent on revenge.

I hope that made sense.

I'm going with Zombie comedy... a new artificial/nefarious sweetener turns the mainstream public into zombies leaving the less gullible to fend for themselves

or something like that, I came up with the idea while trying to decipher my boss' handwriting

Ruffian1313
50046 words so far Winner!

Those artificial sweeteners! xD Sounds really cool!

A lot of supernatural going on here, I love it! Mine's about a woman who wakes up dead and has to figure out the rules while finding out who killed her and dealing with the guy who thinks she's the reincarnation of his one true love.

Ruffian1313

So, it's like a twisted romance?

daphers_raphers

A teen romance between a girl and a male-to-female transgender. Why? Because there needs to be some, duh. :)

I'm doing a retelling of the Frog Prince. Originally, I wanted to have him kiss a girl frog and she turns into a human and helps him break his curse, but I couldn't figure out how she was supposed to do it.

So, instead I went with a human Princess. Unfortunately, every time I tell someone about it, they automatically link it to the Disney movie, because when she kisses the prince, she turns into a frog. -_- It's really not like the cartoon, though, I swear! lol. He kisses her again and it turns her back into a human. Then they have to figure out why the kiss didn't work and find the witch who cursed him to begin with in hopes of breaking the spell.

I also plan to play with the whole the-kiss-works-both-ways thing. Croco-frog and a castle full of confused, naked men anyone? XD

Sounds like everyone's got great stories to tell! \m/

Mine is about an insomniac vampire who rides deep in the subway tunnels of NYC by day, rocks in a band by night, and juggles 3 very different women in his life... while his maker/mentor/"father" hovers over him in utter disapproval and dark fascination.

I'm struggling with pigeon-holing it into the genre of horror/supernatural, as there is a lot of mystery and humor (and yes, love) in it as well. I'm a wimp who covers her eyes when any horror movie comes on TV and I never dreamed I would want to write a vampire story but VOX (my MMC) keeps whispering in my ear "do it do it do it"!

n_taber

As long as the "it" your MMC is whispering you to do isn't illegal, or causing harm to yourself or others, then hooray MMC! From time to time we all need the more insistent characters to kick us into gear, you know? It's how we grow.

Awesome ideas from everyone! We have such a creative bunch here in Buffalo.

Interesting stuff happening... looks like mine will be the straightest, squarest novel written in Buffalo this Nov.

I'm writing about a bar opening here during prohibition, and lasting under different identities but always the same name, till it's finally demolished 200 years later... when the alien whose research project it was part enough finally has enough data to finish his master's thesis.

my hope is that through stories from many diffenrent time periods and characters, the character of the bar itself will emerge.

In my story, everybody has the ability to go back in time to give advice to their past selves, but they can only make this trip once. My main character decides to wait until he is close to death to use this privilege, so the story follows his two parallel lives as we learn that we are defined by our decisions.

Mine include a mermaid princess, an avian prince, and a dangerous panther prince. :3

There will most likely be a wedding, funny scenes, heartbreak, tears, joy, kingdoms, ballrooms, birthday parties, and a BUNCH of other stuff.

I'm like, itching to get started. XD

Idril_Telrunya

My novel is based on the Irish song, "The Maid on the Shore," which I heard performed by The Glengarry Bhoys. This is the synopsis:

In the mystical land of Ireland, a shunned woman is irrisistably drawn to the shore several times a year, where she repeats the same actions over and over in order to gain wealth stolen by pirates. Why and how she is able to do this is elusive to her, but all of that changes when a young pirate captain takes her aboard his ship. Her powers hold no sway over him, and she finds herself far away from her homeland, fighting a conniving enemy bent on revenge.

My story's called "There Once Was a Man From Nantucket." It's a comedy espionage story about the six million dollar man built for twelve grand after budget cuts. Too bad he learns secrets that causes the CIA and MI6 to come after him.

Kinda cheating - setting Macbeth as a Western. But beginning to think it's going to be nothing like that story when I'm done, which is not of itself a bad thing.

A man with no memory is pursued by a teleporting dwarf and falls in love with a coffee shop owning werewolf. There's also a good bit about the new Decemberists EP.

I'm not really sure exactly how to describe mine, since I'm really not sure exactly what it is yet either, but here goes.

Two dance companies, who will do almost anything to 'one up' the other, have been warring against each other for years. Up till now, it's only been a war of words and skill; but recently, it's escalated. Some people are convinced the other studio is sabotaging them and their dancers so they can't perform. Unbeknownst to them, however, their actions also dictate the fate of a fantasy world's fight. In a land far, far away, two kingdoms are preparing for a different, much more serious kind of war. And the outcome of these dancer's final show will decide possibly the greatest battle that's crossed the land in a century.

It's sort of one chapter in the real world, one chapter in medieval fantasy world-ish.... Yeah, it's a work in progress.

I'm curious (and slightly worried), would anyone not interested in dance actually want to read a story that's partly based on dance? It's not like they'd be super prissy "I broke a nail" dancers or anything, and there will be action, but I don't know how many people would really say "omg I wanna read about ballet dancers"...
