NaNoWriMo Necessities

This is my first year here and I was wondering what you guys absolutly NEED during the month. WHat is you NaNoWriMo survival kit?

Here is my list, thus far:

Laptop
Lipton Tea
Earl Grey/Irish Breakfast Tea (for early mornings and late nights)
Sleaveless gloves
Rogan (my cat, he supervises my writing)

So, what's on your list?

Ooh!

This year, it's definitely going to be my wireless hotspot, so we're not stuck at only the places with free wifi if we don't want to be.

A power strip
Stickers
Coffee (and money for coffee)
Construction paper, scissors, and glue (and crayons or markers) for the kiddoes, in case they want to/ I have to bring them with me to a write in. (I won't sit right next to you guys if I have the kids, because I know they're distracting)
Flash drive(s).
Paper and pencil (random notes, edits, dreams, thoughts, pictures).
Giggles, but those are plentiful at write-ins.
Laptop, definitely.

Sleeveless gloves, Ruffian? It's that redundant...kind of like saying "assless chaps"?
:D

laptop
coffee and/or chocolate
brain cells

So do people get a lot accomplished at write-ins? Or does it get pretty social?

Yes.

That said, my must-have list this year has expanded from wine, laptop, coffee and oatmeal to include Aldi's frozen French Onion Soup. I plan to live on it, varied by the occasional PB&J, until December.

Both. Not to ruin any surprises, but we have word challenges, where we write as much as we can in a specific period of time (like 5 minutes). It does get social. But we still get a lot done.

The great thing about writers is that they're usually pretty funny and have good vocabularies, so it can get downright hilarious with all the one-liners and comebacks flying. not to mention the multi-entendres...gotta love being multi.

But then we get serious and crank out some major verbiage.

I think Ruffian meant fingerless gloves, that keep your hands warm but you can still type. I remember Ruffian saying something about a cold writing room. Those gloves are very ...handy.

I figured as much...but I couldn't resist the chaps analogy! Definitely have become a fan of gloves of ANY kind since moving back to Buffalo!

The word challenges sound like a hoot! Thanks for the skinny.

Careful with the French Onion soup, too much of that, and you will finish your book in the ladies room!

I would strongly advise you to get the Scrivener... It's been a Godsend to me - it helped me find plot holes in my first novel that I didn't even know existed until I got it! (well it didn't physically help me in the sense that it did it for me but when I was transferring it from my MS Word and doing the little one-line synopses I found several holes - and that was after two rounds of editing!) I would also suggest getting it soon so you have time to adjust to it before the first! Good Luck and Happy Writing!

Thanks for the recommendation! I have to see if my school's tech company can finally expand my storage space so I can download it onto my laptop... I am a little worried about it being a beta version (like if I've used it for a while and there's suddenly a glitch...) but it really seems like a cool program, and the PC beta one is free right now, so it can't hurt...

And didn't know about the Pumpkin Spice Bailey's!!! Yum.

Comfy, warm clothes preferably
I too need my laptop - with scrivener's on it... which includes all my scenes so I just pick one and write... with my two cats supervising... and purring
otherwise quiet....
eventually I'll heat up some hot chocolate..
OH! and word count of course!

iPod and headphones (if I'm in public). iTunes at home.
>Inspirational music (in the form of either very loud metal or else very quiet instrumental soundtracks (Torchwood and Harry Potter work best).

Tea, or water, or soda, or Tim Horton's Iced Lattes (with just a little sugar and French Vanilla, of course. Unless I'm feeling daring, in which case, best make it Hazelnut. :3)

A well-shuffled deck of cards or else my laptop's Solitaire game for when I have fried my brain and need a rest.
Inspirational music (in the form of either very loud metal or else very quiet instrumental soundtracks (Torchwood and Harry Potter work best).

A comfortable seat (or my bed).

My laptop and charger.
