I cannot wait for NANO!!! I love NANO!! Who all is going to the Kickoff meeting??? I would love to see you all there. Maybe I should step away from the coffee pot...
They'll have the kick-off party sometime before Nov. 1. I think we usually have it on a Sunday, if I'm not mistaken. Our glorious ML's (hi, Oceanid and MylaFantastic!!) will let us know. I can't wait! I'll bring stickers (I always bring stickers) and Markers. It's always so wonderfully awkward at first, and then everyone warms up and gets to know each other, and we realize that we're all freaks and it's OK.
So if you're scared to go, please go anyway. Most of us are scared, even the ones who've done this a lot (like me, I'm terrified of the Kick-Off and the Thank Goodness It's Over Party every year, and every year they're great).
I'd be more scared of the actual writing than the parties. I AM more scared of the writing, actually. Lol. I'm looking forward to the halfway party and DESTROYING YOU ALL... *cough, clears throat* I mean graciously winning at a friendly game of Apples to Apples. (even though I lost last year). XD
The writing is scary. I *try* to hit my daily quota every day, but I totally don't. I write daily, but I also pull off these marathon sprints. Before a Write-In, I do a LOT of writing, because I want to get good numbers before I even get there. :-)
You will do great, Twiki. Just don't ever throw in the towel, and you'll be all set. it's like Apples to Apples. That is, if I could find a relevant similarity between the two. Mm, no. not at all. Nevermind.
I know all the Wrimos will do great. This is so exciting! A brand new shiny challenge.
Bonjour, fellow Buffalonian NaNoWriMo-ers! {Although I'm actually typing from Alden, which is a town that generally not a lot of people have heard of, for some reason.}
Just a brief sidenote: any teenage-d NaNoWriMo-ers present? I'm seventeen, and I've participated/won in 2009 and 2010, but I've always felt terribly awkward and shied away from forums because I felt too underage or something...
Oh, just took the time to see jemzgirl161. Hello! :)
I'm fifteen, and although I did Nano last year I was kind of freaked to do anything with the wrimos in the area...hopefully this year I shall be braver
Ah, how fun! I wish you the best of luck in WriMo-ing, and most likely everyone here will be more than happy to assist you, if you need any tips or whatnot!
As a fourteen year old, I felt the same way last year when I tried Nano. I was too nervous to even post in the forums, let alone try to explain to my mom why I wanted to go to a party with a bunch of people I'd only seen online. I am forcing myself to be more active this year, if only to procrastinate from actually writing... Anyway, it's nice to know I'm not the only teen around here.
Oceanid! You're from Basom? I used to live in the town of Alabama. How odd is that.
Anyway, I was in the Rochester group before but its too far from where I am and I'm not comfortable driving in Rochester. I at least know where Alden, Basom, Lancaster is so although its a hike from Wyoming County, I'm more familiar. I could drive there easy enough plus I grew up in Buffalo. Seems a better fit.
I wouldn't feel too young Sarahirene, there are a lot of teen writers on here.
This is my 1st year doing NaNoWriMo and I'm still not 100% sure I will be able to complete it... it seems like a very time consuming and daunting task!
Try to commit a certain time of the day to noveling, if you can. Make it manageable, and make sure you take refresher breaks, or else your writing will tend to go on a downward slope. Also, if you're stuck on a scene, move onto another, or just create little snippets of dialogue to add in here and there! The key to WriMo-ing is challenging yourself to adjust to your novel. The story paces you, not the other way around. :)
Never go a day without opening your novel. It doesn't matter if its just a glance, but do it. Everyday. Preferable write a little too. And don't stress too much. Nano is supposed to be fun!
How I get through Nano, and win (4 years, so far) * Turn off my inner editor (it's harder than it sounds). I just WRITE, I don't analyze. As much as I can, I just channel the muse and get out of my own way. The story will tell it'self, for the most part.
* Compete with people. >Ahem, Maddie and Nick< I mean head-on, "my wordcount is higher than yours, nah-nah-nah-boo-boo" compete.

Why Hello! I'm from Medina, NY but I'm going to school in Fredonia. This is going to be my second NaNoWriMo and it's going to be a little different for me. Last year, I was fortunate enough to not have a roommate during the month of November (she actually moved out Oct 30th and I didn't get another roommate until Dec 6th). It was nice because I could talk to myself and act like a crazy novelist (i.e. not come out of my room for days and days) without having to worry about freaking someone out. Well, now I have a roommate. I have some strange habits already, but if she didn't think I was crazy before, she will now.
I'm excited about this year. Maybe I'll actually go to some meet-ups.

@writerchaz The only thing I can really say is don't give up. My first year (last year) was terrible but I always found a way to push myself through the blocks. Find someone that you can read the story to or share it with. If they like it, they might push you to keep writing so they can keep reading. Make sure you enjoy your story and have fun. You don't have to do this, but when you do finish, it's one of the best feelings in the world. And it's awesome to tell people "I wrote a 50,000 word novel in a month" and see their faces. Priceless!
Hi everybody! I'm Hugh and this is my 7th (really?) year doing Nano! My advice is come to the write-ins and stay social. We have a wonderful group of writers here in Buffalo, and their support is what helped me to my nano victories.
Anybody? Anybody?
I've stalking the forums for hours and have yet to see any post here, which makes me sad.
Therefore! Hello Buffalo! Is anybody home? I know I'm not the only Nanoer in Buffalo! Helloooo?
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
Oh, we are so here. We are lurking about:
lurk, lurk, lurk.
I cannot wait for NANO!!! I love NANO!! Who all is going to the Kickoff meeting??? I would love to see you all there. Maybe I should step away from the coffee pot...
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I'm home! In Williamsville. Though... last year I promised myself I wasnt going to do NaNo again this year.
Apparently, I can't be trusted. X|
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I'm here too. I swore last year that this year I would win. Let's hope I can be trusted.
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
Greetings from Lancaster! :)
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I always tell myself I'm going to be a good girl and write my quota every day and finish without losing my mind.
.... it's never true.
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
Yay Buffalo people! Hello all!
Re: Anybody? Anybody?

Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I'm all posting in the wrong place and stuff.
Man.

Re: Anybody? Anybody?

Oh I'm terrified of going. I'll probably go if I can get some of my other random nanoing teenage friends to come too

Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I'm just going to hang out with my friends that are doing nanowri with me and scope out the forums.
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I was contemplating showing up at a WriMo event too, but I freaked myself out! Perhaps if we teenagers decide to crash one of the meetings? :)
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
Not a bad idea. Sounds kinda fun. :)
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
I vote yes. All the teenager should meet up at one of the write ins
Re: Anybody? Anybody?
DO any of you live in the southtowns? Perhaps we could organize our own write-in at a library or something.
