Halfway There!

I wanted to check in with my local forum and see how everyone is doing. Are plots still developing, characters getting fleshed out, etc.?

I'm finding that as soon as it gets dark out as of late - which seems to be around 3:00, if we're not covered in all-day WNY gloom - my energy level flops and I'm pushing to set any daily goals I've set.

What other roadblocks are you experiencing? Or if none, how are you staying motivated?

Keep up the good work, Buffalo. : )

P.S. To lend credence to my above statement, it's not even 5:00 and I spaced out about ten times, trying to put together an intelligent-sounding post.

The fact that I somehow have 25k is keeping me motivated. :)

Is it really the halfway point already? Eek! This month is flying by so fast! The only roadblock I've hit was 'the big boo-boo' at the end of week one. Since then lots of speed bumps along the way but nothing I can't hurdle over. I keep myself motivated by offering myself rewards - usually it's getting to spend an entire day with a good read. And much like bleysofamber, my seemingly miraculous word count reminds me that it is in fact possible which helps. But I think the biggest motivational factor is that the story itself is now taking on a life of its own and I'm just the conduit through which it is telling itself. The hardest part so far is my internal editor - I find myself often staring blankly at my screen screaming "Awkward, how can I fix this" for large chunks of time before finally moving on. Going to stop blathering like a bumbling fool and write words that actually count toward the finish line! Good Luck everyone!

My motivation? Ummm, I guess determination and interest in my story and my enjoyment in writing. I had a slight sanity breakdown around 22k. After that, I regained my strength and perseverance. It's been uphill since then. I feel like I'm only near the beginning of Act Two of my plot so I have plenty more to work with. Looking forward to being able to get this dang thing done and validated next Friday!!!!

Determination and rewards are both great motivators. : ) And the more words written, the easier it gets...right? T.L.Phillips, I had the same issue with turning off the internal editor at first, which made it almost impossible to keep writing with abandon; now, it's a fleeting "This can be fixed later" before moving on.

I told one of my male buddies that I like to set 1,000 words as my first reward level, after which I will allow myself to take a shower. He said that wouldn't work for him, because he doesn't mind being icky. I guess rewards are highly subjective!

Keep it going, everybody....as Gina pointed out, validation day is coming soon!
