If you don't know where to start, then here's a few pointers.
Name Novel Years you've been doing Nano Random fact.
Hi everyone!
I'm Sara and your ML for the TN Elsewhere group. Some of you might remember me from last year. This is my second year MLing and my sixth year Nanoing. I'm really excited for this year. Currently, I am a University student at ETSU and I'm not quite sure what I'm writing yet. I made a banner for one idea, but I'm thinking I might end up changing it. Random fact about me, I will only eat precisely one brand and type of chocolate chip cookies. Chips Ahoy! Chunky.
Welcome to Nanoland and I wish you all the best in the adventure ahead. ^_^
Hello all. I'm Alicia. This will be my fourth NaNo and hopefully first win. I only have a vague idea of what I'm writing this year.
Technically, I'm not in Tennesse at the moment. I'm not even sure when I'll be back, but it's my true home and I will be in Tennesse some during November. I'm from Jackson, born and raised. Never lived anywhere but there until this move
Hello, all! I'm Amanda, I'm from tiny Humboldt, which is in west TN and not far from Jackson actually. This is my second year doing NaNo (though this is not my second novel by any means). I won last year and I hope to do so again this year.
The novel I'm going to write this year is called (for now) The Forest Watches Us, and it's a psychological horror/drama/mystery/dark fantasy, inspired by the fairytale of Snow White and Rose Red, as well as the song 'Like You' by Evanescence. It's an old idea that I never put to paper, so I've decided to do that this year.
I got my new notebook and I've already started making notes on it, though I don't actually have a layout. I think I can probably write it to a certain point without much of a plan.
Random fact...I have two cats: named Ninja and Sushi - and they seem to think they're helping me write this year because they're all over my computer desk.
Hi Amanda! I am living in Jackson right now, but I go to church in Humboldt. Tiny town yes, but so cute and has a main street that inspires the writer in me. :-) Happy Nanoing!
I'm Barbara, from the Tri-Cities area. I've lost track of which year this is for me, doing NaNoWriMo...maybe going on fourth or fifth? This year's novel might be a sequel to last year's, which was a sequel to the one from the year before that. I discovered a world and a cast of characters back in 2009 that I've been enjoying enough to want to create a series of tales about their escapades.
Last spring before Script Frenzy, I finally traded in my old Alphasmart 3000 (the second one I'd owned--both had lots of wear on them before they came into my hands) for a brand-new Alphasmart Neo, which I can highly recommend. For one thing, it will hold twice as much data as the old AS3K. For another thing, it has more cool abilities, such as being able to change the font size and do word and paragraph counts...although it does have its drawbacks; for example, the screen still isn't backlit, which cuts down on the amount of writing one can accomplish in darkened environments. Fortunately, most of the places I tend to write are relatively well-illuminated. The Neo is just as lightweight, portable and tough as its predecessor and I look forward to knocking off several thousand words a day with its classy, minimalist help.
This is my first year doing Nano but I have seen it before and been sad that I didn't have the tools or time to join in. I am planning on working on a novel in a series that I have had tossing around in my head for a bit. The ideas are already flowing in and I am getting real excited, yall!
Random fact is that I absolutely adore rats. They are my babies.
Howdy, Elsewheres! garretwriter, aka Lesley, here. I'm in Johnson City and hoping to be involved in write-ins and such in the Tri-Cities this year.
I did my first NaNo in 2005 and WON!!! Then had an epic fail in '06, didn't play in '07, and have participated and won each year since.
This is the first year I feel like a professional writer. Instead of being a seat-of-the-pantser ("Pantser") I'm being a Plotter. Like last year, I'm doing a mystery/thriller. Last year I discovered -- too late -- that the mystery genre absolutely requires at least SOME advanced planning. So I've been doing that for a couple of months - researching, outlining, doing detailed character sketches, etc. I managed to bang out over 60,000 words last year, and I still don't know how. But holy cow, is it a mess!!
Random fact: I'm a pilgrim and have lived many places. I say "home is where my cell phone is." I know I'll be spending at least part of my November Elsewhere in Tennessee, however!
Hi! I'm Margaret. I'm originally from Alabama, but I go to college in Tennessee.
This is my third year participating in NaNoWriMo. I've won twice, and I hope to win again! My novel, Her Kiss Kills, is a modern take on Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story "Rappaccini's Daughter" (with bits of The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost thrown in). My first novel, Beauty and the Beast, was set in the post-Civil War South and used the Minotaur myth as its back story, and my second novel, Bluebeared's Wife, mashed up Perrault's fairy tale "Le Barbe Bleue" with the Hades/Persephone myth and some good ole Jane/Rochester-esque romance.
I love fairy tales and mythology, so this year will be a big change for me. I'm excited though. Good luck, everyone!
Hi, everyone. I admit I'm not really in the habit of giving out my real name online, so... yeah. (I usually go by "Birdy" when online, though if I do need to provide my real name here, I suppose I could. )
I'm not sure on my novel yet. I'm debating between two ideas - both of which I really like. (I wanted to do the first idea in July for Camp NaNo, but... that didn't work out.)
I've been attempting NaNo since 2008. I've never won. (Never even made to to 10K, to be honest. ) Hopefully this year, that will change.
Random fact... Hmmm...
My favourite holiday is Christmas. There's just something about that time of year that's just... I don't know. Magical? Festive? Heartwarming? ... Whatever. I like Christmas.
I believe the adjective you're looking for is AWESOME. :D Christmas is the best. I love it so much. I like the lead-up to it better than I like the presents on Christmas morning!
Hi, is there anyone around covington, tn here? My name is Amy and I'm 31. This will be my third year of doing Nano Despite getting a nasty virus that caused me to lose everything on my comptuer last year i still won thanks to hte fact that i saved it to a jump drive.. I've posted the first 27 parts (csi miami fanfic) to my lj and that's abotu 89 k and i've got up to part 46 parts till waiting on the beta but the end to that one is in sight.
This year i'm going to be focusing on another maimi fanfiction though its going to be a wolf au if i can get the kinks worked out with teh rules for my au i might focus on an original story the next year..
A huge hello to everyone who's stopped by and introduced themselves. Glad to see more folks are finding their way over here. Feel free to start up threads and whatever. I'll be getting some stuff together this weekend. It's mid-terms week for me right now, so I'm up to my eyeballs in all kinds of ridiculous study notes/guides and gibberish. >_> Oh well. Nano is 18 days away. Whoo hoo!
Hi, all! I'm Rebecca and currently living in Dyersburg, TN. I'm originally from Princeton, KY, but am a bit of a nomad and never stay in one city/town/state for more than 2 years at a time. Wherever I lay my head is home. :)
This will be my third NaNo. The first year, I decided to participate about 30 minutes before it was to start and just randomly started typing at 12:01. The idea for that "novel" is a good one, but since I had no plan and, literally, just made it up as I went, it is a true mess. It would be easier just to rewrite the whole thing than it would be to go back and edit. Last year, I actually had a bit of a plan and things went much more smoothly. This year, I am simply continuing the plan from last year, as my new novel will be the second in a series. I'm super excited to get started!
Random fact: I hate being cold. Give me a hot, humid 104 degree (F) day and I am tickled.
Hello, everyone! I'm Stephanie, presently living in Jackson since I'm attending Union University, whoo hoo! So that's why this is my home region. :D
This will be my third NaNo. I'm actually planning two novels, just so I can have a backup in case one goes splat two weeks into the month. The first one is a sequel to my 2009 NaNo, and the second is mushy chick lit based vaguely on something in my own life. For that reason, I'm writing it under a pen name, ha.
Random fact: I loooooooove Lord of the Rings, especially the movies. Reading is all well and good, and I enjoy it, and I like the books, but the books don't have Sean Bean's handsome face in them, now do they? ;) Last year's NaNo was 60,000+ words of pure fanfic, and I still haven't finished the story, haha.
Hi! I'm Allison, living in the tiny town of Iron City, TN (that's in Wayne County, FAR south central TN, close to the Alabama border - it's actually listed on most maps if you squint hard enough, population = a whopping 399 souls.) First year doing NaNo, not my first novel though. Writing a crime/mystery about a serial killer but the murder method is what sets this story apart so, my secret to reveal later on.... :o)
Hey everybody, I'm Jamie. This is my second year doing Nano, but it's been a while. My novel this year is something between a fantasy/sci-fi with an unspecified plot as of yet. :) The idea is there.. but until I start writing, I have no idea where it's going. Random Fact.... popcorn is my favorite snack food, and I'm stocked up for all of November :D
Hi, I'm Gena, and I'm in Bristol at the moment. I've started NaNo a couple of time but never finished due to being in grad school. Now I'm out, and I'm hoping to get some good work done this year!
Hello, one and all! I'm Garren and I live in Harriman, technically. The real border of the town line is only 500 feet from where I live so there's that. I have NO idea what to really write. I've got several ideas floating around, can't grab hold of one and this is my first year in NaNo.
Now a random fact... I think better when pumped full of hot tea... with lots of sugar!
Hello everyone! My name is Sheila and I seem to be all by my lonesome up here in Clarksville. This is my second year participating in NaNoWriMo; last year I won, but I never finished the story so that will be my main goal this year. It's looking more and more like I'll be pantsing it this year as I still have no idea what I'll be writing.
I'd love to attend some write-ins if there's anyone in the area, although I have to warn you that I can be pretty awkward with new people. ^_^'''
Hmmm. A random fact, you say? I'll watch any movie with Tom Hardy in it. =D
Sheila -- you aren't by yourself in Clarksvegas anymore. I just made the decision (four days out, what on EARTH am I thinking?) that I'm going to pants it this year and just go for it. I got laid off from my job, so what the hell, might as well write a novel, right?
