Now that the new boards are up, I can finally post some of these. LOL. For whoever wants them, these are some fun links to things/places/ideas and whatnot to help you start your novel/plan your novel or just to make the process more fun. Explanations for each link are below. Check it out and enjoy!

Feel free to post any suggestions/links that you all have as well.

http://pbackwriter.blogspot.com/p/freebies.html
This link is from Lynn Viehl and it lists several other links to resources she has for writers. The section you want is the Non-fiction paragraph at the bottom. Here, she has blank templates for filling out a novel notebook, novel outlining and such. There is also a ten-plot point novel outline template. You might also find links to freeware writing programs for those of you who are looking for something new to write in. I highly recommend the novel notebook because there are slots for building character profiles and world-building/time-setting stuff. Even if you're a panster kind of a writer, this is still loads of fun to look through and just might spark off a few ideas! Most of her files are available as a free google doc downloads.

Vicki H. explains how to make your own novel notebook, if you'd rather not use Viehl's own.

Character Name Generator

Heromachine (will load a flash-based site for this, be warned if you're on dial-up). It has preset features and quick accessories, so if you aren't the artist you wish you were, this can still turn out a fairly decent rendering of your characters/villains. It's fun to experiment with, using it online is free.

Lazette's Guide: Nano for the new and insane. She's got some excellent tips for writing and surviving Nano in general, not to mention help for plotting and an interview with Chris Baty! This is a free ebook.

Also a free ebook by Lazette, this is a humorous short for "THOSE" characters, you know, the ones that won't stop talking in your head. There is some mild language in there, but nothing you wouldn't hear from walking down the sidewalk. Just be aware, to be on the safe side.

And for those of you who requested my original character profile sheet, I can't seem to find the original 25 page one I use, but the one I'm currently using this year is pretty basic and about 2 pages long, depending. Use it how you like. I don't mind. Please keep in mind that I write Fantasy, so some slots/suggestions may not work for you.

Here's a blog I heard about from the Asheville WriMos - www.storyfix.com. The author, Larry Brooks, is doing a blog post for each day of October specifically about planning for NaNoWriMo. Here's a link that will get you to the first post in the series: Storyfix NaNo Series. Hope this helps somebody!

http://writeronline.com/

Personality quizzes for your characters. From the site:

"The Character Building Workshop is an independent study of your characters using these online questionnaires. The process of filling out the forms will help you, the writer, learn about your characters on a more in-depth level. Once the questions have been answered, you will know more about the roles your characters play in your story. No longer will they be names on a page; they will become living, breathing beings as you continue writing your story."
