I tried not to make the same mistake with Skyward Sword that I did with Wind Waker--which was fail to appreciate it as a good game because it wasn't what I expected it to be like. Wind Waker was a great game, which I didn't realize until I almost beat it. And although Twilight Princess impressed me the depth of the characters (except the main one, lol) and the fantastic graphics, it was basically a carbon-copy of Ocarina of Time with a few changes here and there.
Skyward Sword is cool in a lot of ways; I love that even after all this time the Legend of Zelda's fighting style remains real time and the dungeons continue to be designed creatively and intuitively. The improved Wiimote with Motion+ is also almost accurate enough not to make me miss my old gamecube controllers. But dangit, I still have a couple of things I want to complain about.
For one thing, I think blending the Wind Waker graphics with the Twilight princess ones was a clever idea; only I think they botched it. A close-up of Link in Skyward Sword looks sharp and unpleasant and unnatural. What I loved most about Twilight Princess was the realistic graphic rendering of Link. He looked more like a person and was easier to look at. For another thing, you don't spend enough time flying in this game. Considering the game's title is based on being in the sky, you would think they'd have dedicated a little more importance to that. I would also like to complain about what a bitch it is to use a potion in battle. I miss the days when you only had to hit a button and the screen would pause the game when you equipped it. Also, save points? Dammit, I thought we were over this after Majora's Mask. Which reminds me: it's cool that they want to make some light-hearted kid-friendly Zelda games. I'm for that. But I personally prefer the darker games that really made me feel things. I was terrified of Skulltullas when I started playing. Who wasn't freaked out by the ReDeads, or mildly perturbed by the Happy Mask Salesman? I liked those games because they were hard to just get up and walk away from. They were more addictive.
Also, princess Zelda is kind of a bitch in Skyward Sword. =/
Anybody Else A Little Disappointed in Skyward sword?
