Since I can't edit the first post , I’ll do this instead.
The lovely fabi60 has set up a Minecraft server for us Wrimos! No griefing, folks, that stuff ain’t cool, but otherwise I suppose just have fun. Fabi60 sounds like they’re willing to help if anyone is having tech problems with connecting.
We don’t know for sure how many players fabi60’s computer and internet can handle either, but the server is here:
sc20.servercraft.co:2369 is another server open to NaNoers. It should have a better pipeline than the home-hosted one (although I seriously appreciate that one being hosted at all) so it should support more people with fewer drops.
If I have a decent enough connection available, I might load up a server for November, but most likely I'll just join up with whoever else can afford the time and bandwidth to run one.
Hey, building mock ups was my idea! But really, a server to hang out in during November is a great idea. Besides the final release is in the middle of the month, which will damage word counts no doubt.
Yay minecraft!!!! XD was totally planning on using this to help my novel!!!! also yes, i may have to write extra the days before minecraft is released and give myself the release day to play it!!
Wow, never thought of using Minecraft for planning!
I do play, though. But I haven't been able to "properly" play of late because I updated to 1.8... and let's face it, I wasn't OK with the basic Nether before, I certainly can't handle Endermen yet! (doesn't help that I'm a Marble Hornets fan...) Also, I don't feel like fixing my entire mob farm to deal with them. (I hear in 1.9, they no longer can pick up cobblestone... that would be nice.)
Ooh, a WriMo server would be cool. I haven't really played Minecraft for a while, due to lack of inspiration and the advent of school. My house has a dedicated server computer up and etc., so I can probably run a server at least some of the time. I'll look into it and post back with an IP if I can figure it out.
Once upon a time I was planning on replicating one of the countries in the world I built, but the landscaping got to me, since I needed mountains and things in specific places, and there wasn't any program available for designing by chunk or anything, like I'd like. I would've been glad to build in-game (especially with the latest updates), but I just want to have my mountains and plains without having to build them block by block.
Minecraft! I like the idea of building my NaNo world in Minecraft, but it would take too much time. Instead, I'm letting naturally-generated Minecraft worlds influence the geography of my NaNo world. :D
I've been playing for a while got my friends addicted as well. I play single player and I'm in my first hardcore run, It's been five nights with out seeing a single baddie, I spent an hour last night mindlessly tunneling through through walls trying to find a skeleton I kept hearing only to get lost without my pick and still not one baddie in sight. At this point I'm almost willing to just build a monster spawner just so I have something to fight with my iron sword of might.
I set up a server! I'll try to leave it running as much as I can, but if my brother commandeers it or my internet goes out, well... anyway, I haven't done much on it, just set it up and etc. Here's the IP:
184.2.113.27:25568
Let me know if that doesn't work, or there are any other issues. If someone wants to put this in the top post and my username for tech support, that'd be fine :) I'm not too picky on rules, but general respect of other people's creations would be cool. Hope to see you guys there!
Sure, anyone's welcome! The best part about multiplayer for me is getting to look around at all the awesome stuff other people make. Kind of like looking at all the epic sandcastles at the beach.
Yea! I'm happy to see that there are other Wrimos playing Minecraft (such a great way to procrastinate). I've only played single-player so far, but I will have to check out that server next week. My nick in MC is Willow_Red. Currently playing 1.8, but haven't had the nerve to take it off of Peaceful since 1.7. Gads, the Minecraft release happens right in the middle of NaNoWriMo, doesn't it? Gulp.
@Swenson, it's good to know that I'm not the only one who's afraid to take on the Endermen. Creepers are bad enough!
I wish I had the time to set up a server, we'll see. Not sure if my school's internet allows external access of any kind, I think a friend of my roommate can get on his server so maybe. I have a unused machine here that I got from a heap of surplus stuff on campus. If I could get that running some kind of windows/linux I could have a server (probably just vanilla though -- no addons).
Don't play much these days, 1.8 was cool, but I really preferred not having to eat. It's annoying to have to crawl out of a mine to find food so you don't starve to death. I wish that was part of a separate adventure mode or something.
The other day I got creeper pwned so hard. I found this awesome seed and have been playing it a bit. I found this ravine that had another ravine connected to it. Massively massive cave system and its amazing. Theres this big giant room and I kept dying to creepers.
I would rush back only to die a few minutes later because a creeper would jump down from somewhere and say 'Oh hello' and before I could react or run away I'd get blown up. :(
Brilliant. I want to build my setting in Minecraft now. Not that I know what my setting is yet.... Ooh! Maybe I'll look for one of the abandoned villages that 1.8 has and build my plot arround that! Oh geez.... Minecraft and NaNo is quite a combo isn't it...? xD
Still- I really hope someone can get a server together! I'll keep my eyes posted for an IP on here.... unfortunately I can't afford setting one up myself.
My goal is to do NaNo and then get minecraft since everyone seems to enjoy the game so much. When I get minecraft I will probably end up making the city my story is based in just because I could. ^_^
I just started a huge Minecraft project: building an ancient mesopotamian temple called a Ziggurat. It's gonna be 100 blocks on each side at the base and go nearly 100 blocks high. It's surrounded by a wall that is 12 blocks high. I'll probably drop it for the month of November and pick it up again later. I'm taking a lot of inspiration from here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/solar-ziggurat/
It doesn't really have anything to do with my story which is a medieval fairytale with a dragon and a princess as the main characters, but I think it's pretty cool.
I'll certainly check out any servers posted here during November to chat with other NaNoCrafters (or does MineWrimos sound better?)
Good luck on your ziggurat, I've been working for a few months on a 126 X 126 sandstone pyramid with a city inside that stretches all the way to the top of the map that's kind of similar to what you're hoping to build. It's taking a VERY long time, but it's worth it as the project is already looking awesome even though it's nowhere near finished yet.
Are you using invedit or anything to get your building materials, or harvesting them normally? I harvest and mine all my materials normally, makes me feel more accomplished in the end. I'm SO glad it no longer takes such a long time to get sandstone, since you can find it naturally under sand now. Before it would take me hours to even get a few full stacks of the stuff laid down.
I am in creative mode so unlimited everything and I can fly, but I figure that the effort of putting it together is eneough accomplishment for me. I built a simple castle of cobblestone once while doing my own gathering and I didn't find it quite a fun as this.
It looks like several people have missed the IP I posted here earlier. I don't know that my computer or internet will support a ton of people on at once, but I'll try and keep this server up as much as possible:
184.2.113.27:25568
Keep it classy, is all I really ask. Griefers aren't cool.
I'm glad to see this thread up; I was anticipating it for the longest time! And I'm glad to see that there is a WriMo server up, I'll be having a look at that next time I'm on.
Minecraft!
I'm surprised this isn't already up!
Is anyone planning on opening up a server for the month?
Or, is anyone (like me!) planning on building setting mockups in Minecraft? (And then letting creepers blow the whole thing up...)

...Yes. Just yes. Awesome avatar.
Fluttershy wins forever.
Re: Minecraft!
Is that a picture that acctualy occured, or a fan art?
Re: Minecraft!
Dude Endermen are so horrible!!! Once one picked up a block of TNT and threw it at my house, (im guessing you can figure out what happened next)
I also can't wait for the EnderDragons to come out!

Re: Minecraft!
Seriously?! How do you possibly go five nights without running into anything?!
Well... is the area around you really lit up or something? And you're not on peaceful by accident or whatever?
Re: Minecraft!
Hardcore mode can't be set to peaceful it's stuck at hard and hope I sat out away from anylights but the stars

I'll but the info in the first post as soon as I get editing capabilities. Thank you for being totally AWESOME.

Hi, anyone welcome? I've always wanted to try multiplayer :D

Endermen currently die fairly easily.

Re: Minecraft!
grow wheat or watermelon. its much more convenient than trying to track down a pig
Re: Minecraft!
Thats what I should do. I should tottally build the temple and city where my story takes place in.
Hmm...
If only I was actually good at building stuff in Minecraft.

Re: Minecraft!
A server I used to be an Op on had one person build a scale replica of the Chichen Itza.

According to the polling software, the server limit when I was last one was set to 10 people. It seemed to be handling two people fairly well.
