Minecraft!

I'm surprised this isn't already up!

Is anyone planning on opening up a server for the month?

Or, is anyone (like me!) planning on building setting mockups in Minecraft? (And then letting creepers blow the whole thing up...)

Wow, never thought of using Minecraft for planning!

I do play, though. But I haven't been able to "properly" play of late because I updated to 1.8... and let's face it, I wasn't OK with the basic Nether before, I certainly can't handle Endermen yet! (doesn't help that I'm a Marble Hornets fan...) Also, I don't feel like fixing my entire mob farm to deal with them. (I hear in 1.9, they no longer can pick up cobblestone... that would be nice.)

Ooh, a WriMo server would be cool. I haven't really played Minecraft for a while, due to lack of inspiration and the advent of school. My house has a dedicated server computer up and etc., so I can probably run a server at least some of the time. I'll look into it and post back with an IP if I can figure it out.

Once upon a time I was planning on replicating one of the countries in the world I built, but the landscaping got to me, since I needed mountains and things in specific places, and there wasn't any program available for designing by chunk or anything, like I'd like. I would've been glad to build in-game (especially with the latest updates), but I just want to have my mountains and plains without having to build them block by block.

I've been playing for a while got my friends addicted as well. I play single player and I'm in my first hardcore run, It's been five nights with out seeing a single baddie, I spent an hour last night mindlessly tunneling through through walls trying to find a skeleton I kept hearing only to get lost without my pick and still not one baddie in sight. At this point I'm almost willing to just build a monster spawner just so I have something to fight with my iron sword of might.

I've only played single-player so far, but I will have to check out that server next week. My nick in MC is Willow_Red. Currently playing 1.8, but haven't had the nerve to take it off of Peaceful since 1.7. Gads, the Minecraft release happens right in the middle of NaNoWriMo, doesn't it? Gulp.

I wish I had the time to set up a server, we'll see. Not sure if my school's internet allows external access of any kind, I think a friend of my roommate can get on his server so maybe. I have a unused machine here that I got from a heap of surplus stuff on campus. If I could get that running some kind of windows/linux I could have a server (probably just vanilla though -- no addons).

Don't play much these days, 1.8 was cool, but I really preferred not having to eat. It's annoying to have to crawl out of a mine to find food so you don't starve to death. I wish that was part of a separate adventure mode or something.

Oh right that reminds me.

The other day I got creeper pwned so hard. I found this awesome seed and have been playing it a bit. I found this ravine that had another ravine connected to it. Massively massive cave system and its amazing. Theres this big giant room and I kept dying to creepers.

I would rush back only to die a few minutes later because a creeper would jump down from somewhere and say 'Oh hello' and before I could react or run away I'd get blown up. :(

Re: Minecraft!

I just started a huge Minecraft project: building an ancient mesopotamian temple called a Ziggurat. It's gonna be 100 blocks on each side at the base and go nearly 100 blocks high. It's surrounded by a wall that is 12 blocks high. I'll probably drop it for the month of November and pick it up again later. I'm taking a lot of inspiration from here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/solar-ziggurat/

It doesn't really have anything to do with my story which is a medieval fairytale with a dragon and a princess as the main characters, but I think it's pretty cool.

I'll certainly check out any servers posted here during November to chat with other NaNoCrafters (or does MineWrimos sound better?)

I run a small Minecraft server, mostly for my daughter and a few friends. It can handle up to eight people currently but I can upgrade the plan to allow for more, if fabi60's server's availability becomes unpredictable.

I'll have to remove the whitelist - I established it due to concern for griefers ruining my daughter's creations.

I worked on building a spawn base so people could gear up and then head out into the wilderness but it became too convoluted because I didn't know how spawning worked - it wound up being a titanic facility. I'm currently working on a surface-to-orbital defense station. I've got the main defense node and a small radome done but have to work on some other details.

I've been playing for a month or so, but I'm having such fun messing about and building a farm that I haven't actually come off peaceful mode - it's just like playing The Sims, but no one pops in to use the loo.

I didn't realise another update was coming out, I was determined to stay away for November so I don't get distracted.

Played around on the server (184.2.113.27:25568) for a while today, had a lot of fun! I decided to start a random building project because hey, why not, and besides, nobody was building in that desert over across the way. So if anyone would like to contribute to my random sandstone building project (probably a pyramid or something? I'm open to ideas), you can dump sand, sandstone, and tools (shovels/torches so other people can help) in the chest I left in the sandy area.

Okay, y'all. My husband and I are trying to decide which server we're going to build on. We have the 10 person server, which seems to be better developed, and the 50 person server that can hold more people.

I'd rather not invest a lot of time in one server and then learn that everyone is playing on the other. Can we come to a consensus about which one we'll use?

While I love the way the 10 person server looks, I think the larger one would allow more of us to play, and maybe eventually to have virtual write-ins or something. So my vote is for that one.

...Now I have to build the setting of my NaNo novel in Minecraft. I'll do my word count at school and then spend my evenings at home building a suburban neighborhood next to a patch of forest.

And I just realized that just that setting is incredibly close to my house. I...I modeled my NaNo novel after real life...and what I wish would happen to me...

Doesn't help that my main character shares many of my mannerisms and habits, but she does have a few that I don't and she did drop a few that I have. And she looks different.

Good luck on your ziggurat, I've been working for a few months on a 126 X 126 sandstone pyramid with a city inside that stretches all the way to the top of the map that's kind of similar to what you're hoping to build. It's taking a VERY long time, but it's worth it as the project is already looking awesome even though it's nowhere near finished yet.

Are you using invedit or anything to get your building materials, or harvesting them normally? I harvest and mine all my materials normally, makes me feel more accomplished in the end. I'm SO glad it no longer takes such a long time to get sandstone, since you can find it naturally under sand now. Before it would take me hours to even get a few full stacks of the stuff laid down.

Re: Minecraft!

I love Minecraft, but only rarely play multiplayer as I feel a bit uncomfortable building on someone else's map. Silly I know, but I just have to get used to the idea, so maybe I'll drop in on the server when I've got some free time. Most of my playtime is devoted to exploring my extensive empire and working on a couple of gigantic building projects on my main solo map. I got lost the other day for the first time in ages, I was stuck out in no man's land with no clue how to find my bsae again... how embarrassing! Finally found it again though, and made markers back and forth so that wouldn't happen again. I play on peaceful 99% of the time because I just like to concentrate on building and exploration. I haven't installed 1.8 yet because I'm not sure how much that'll affect my particular play style.

It also sucks that I've run out of caves to explore in my immediate area on this map though. Caves are one of my favorite things to do in MC and I'm DYING to find a new big one but they seem to all be hiding from me now. I desperately need more gold to decorate the tombs in my pyramid, so I'm getting rather impatient trying to find them. >:|

See if we can get this mod on a server:

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/694829-181-weeping-angels-v14-16-oct/

Makes the game VERY interesting. Don't know if it would work with multiplayer though.

The sc20.servercraft.co:2369 server is rather strange. It kinda feels like it's haunted. For instance (I think this may be a mod) The front of my house turned into glass. Later my room was spontaneously coated in torches. Oh yes, the chest in there opens and closes on it's own... Besides that, it's awesome. There are resources everywhere. With a half hour of play I got 7 diamonds, 28 gold and tons of iron. It's interesting...

If any of you find the base my husband and I are building, the enormous farm on the inside is free for whoever needs food. Just make sure you replant any seeds you get from harvesting, so there's enough for the next time someone needs food.

The base is a mountain with some glass walls set into it and a huge waterfall. You can't miss it.

For those on the servercraft server, it's been officially named NaNoCraft. We'll be keeping it up even after NaNoWriMo is done, so everyone can come hang out. The admin in charge of mods and such, JaydePhoenix, has just set up a small forum for people to post in at http://nanocraft.freeforums.org - come over, sign up, communicate any issues, requests, or whatever with him (and, by extension, me, as the server owner) on there.

Every Minecrafting WriMo is welcome. The only /serious/ rules are don't grief, and please don't use mods or other tools to get an unfair advantage. We've got plenty of cool tricks in store for everyone without needing to resort to that. (Jayde's planning airships, as soon as it gets viable.)

OH! Before we do the update, we should see if the Solar Apocalypse mod will work on a server. (As I've already indicated, I don't know how this works)

I think this would be a great thing to do before we upgrade the whole thing, just like the vote on the website. (Burn the world and start over)

You'll need to ask the mod admin on the NaNoCraft forum (http://nanocraft.freeforums.org/index.php) if he can do that. It might well not be possible. After we update to the full release, we may be able to add more custom server support, if people show an interest and come hang out on the forum over there.
