I love The Sims. I have 1, 2 and 3 installed on my computer, although I don't play 1 at all. I'm getting to like Sims 3 more since they made it easier to use Custom Content, but I still love Sims 2.
I have also managed to adapt Sims 3 more to my style of play - which is to have a neighbourhood full of nothing but Anime and Gaming characters then watch to see what they get up to.
So what about the rest of you? How do you play your game?
Whenever I describe how I play Sims I always end up getting terrified looks from my friends and family. My current project in Sims 3 is a man who is going to max out every skill possible. He's going to become the best possible Sim. And then I'm trying to get a ghost of every colour as well as a wide selection of children to choose from to be his heir. So basically I'm having him kidnap random women (through the use of cheats), bring them home and have a baby with them (or triplets), and then kill them off in various ways and set up a graveyard in my front yard. The children I don't need get automatically aged up into teenagers (through cheats) in order to become slaves and do all the housework.
I do have some normal families though. But I haven't played in a while because I loaded the game one day and suddenly my 3 generation, celebrity, incredibly wealthy family all left the house, got in a taxi, and drove away, never to be seen again. My friend thinks they found out what I was doing with the other guy and fled from me in terror.
Nightfoot, it's taken me a long time to come to terms with the fact that non-Simmers just don't "get" Simming psychology. LOL I'm one of the most compassionate, non-violent people you could ever meet in RL but when it comes to Simming? Let's just say that I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from. :-D
I love the Sims3! My friend got me hooked on it! I have gone through a few families. I currently have a 2 parent 6 kid family. They are mega wealth. I am LOVING Hidden Springs as a town, it has many different sized plots, different venues to buy. Really am enjoying it.
I've been playing Sims since the days of Sims 1! I had almost all the EPs for Sims 1 too. During the Sims 2 era, I owned all of those EPs. And now I am a fervent player of Sims 3, with all the EPs out so far. Sadly, I haven't played a whole lot lately, but when I do I love doing different sorts of challenges, especially legacies. I love playing a single family through the ages, marrying them off and making them have babies. Love teh babiez! XD
I love the Sims so much. I used to love Sims 2 but I've gone off it a bit since Sims 3 came out... the whole open neighbourhood thing makes it more appealing to me. Idk why.
I like telling stories on the Sims and making movies, although I'm yet to successfully complete anything -_-
I can't wait for Sims 3 Pets. The demo borked my game though :(
Addicted to Sims 3, mostly because for some reason my computer won't run any other versions... lol it barely runs 3. I'm also on Sims Social on Facebook. Kind of lame compared to the legit version, but it's nice for a quick Sims experience without getting sucked in for hours at a time (Please tell me I'm not the only one that happens to! XD).
I actually tend to go through phases where I don't play for a while because I do get sucked in and I won't have that much time to play at once.
I'm really looking forward to Pets, though. That was always my favorite expansion. Now I just have to see if I have the money for it after I get all my NaNo gear :D
I still play Sims 2 the most, actually xD I had so much custom content on it, that the whole game was tailored to exactly how I like it. I just don't have the energy to try and do that all over again for Sims 3.
I keep trying to do legacies, but get distracted too easily. I just like making and decorating tiny houses for couples (and then have all the furniture messed up when they have babies)
I am a Sims addict! I play sims 2 on my laptop for hours. I am almost more of a designer than a player. I spend ages working on the right setting for stuff. I have most EP's though don't use all of them as my laptop seems to struggle when I do. At the moment just using Sims 2 and University,
I use a lot of costum content and make stories that I post online because I just have nothing better to do,
I love the Sims though. 3 is amazing :D I love creating houses from my stories to really help visualize the places they go ect. It makes me happy to see it in semi- reality.
I love Sims 2! I can't play it at the moment though because the computer's out of action! Perhaps that's a good thing cos I won't want to be distracted next month. I dislike Sims 3 though - especially babies and toddlers.
I am a firm Sims 2 player, have been since it first came out. I have played on 3, but it just didn't capture my attention like Sims 2 has. Though, my CD is in a hiding place until Jan at the earliest, lest I get too caught up in it and not make my NaNo target next month!
I have Sims 1 Complete Collection and Sims 2 with all expansion and stuff packs, but I haven't gotten 3. (It doesn't look that good to me, and the bug reports I've seen? Oof!)
I play heavily themed neighborhoods. I use almost no Maxis content in either game, and I hoard my Sims 1 downloads because most of the sites are long-since closed. (The last time I checked, Comhair, Persimmon Grove, and Parsimonious are still open, and I was able to get SimGoth stuff through the Internet Archive.) I do have a neighborhood for my novel series, which is non-modern. I also have a few other themes. The one theme I seem to be lacking is a normal, modern, realistic, mainstream neighborhood. (Too boring! Cannot play!)
Is anyone going to force their Sims 2 Sims to write a novel during NaNoWriMo? (SimNoWriMo?)

Oh, can we NaNoMail each other about your Sims 1 custom content? I've lost so much through all the computer swaps I've done.
As to SimNoWriMo? LOL I did that two years ago when I was playing a University challenge from my favorite Sims fan site (The Guid Morrow Club with old Sims 1 BBS heroes like MacBraveheart and Trollie and Loflyh). I'm usually a harsh task master as it is (it's rare a Sim that gets "Free Will" for long) but during this challenge, my domineering side came out with a vengeance. The entire school year was set to "Fall" (thank the Sim gods for Seasons) and each student was constantly kept in the gold or platinum so that they could use Energizers and Thinking Caps non-stop. :-P I had several of the students do "NaNo" and successfully complete it! LOL
I check back and the site destroyed my post ): Ah well, what that post was MEANT to say was this: I love combining Sims with writing, as it really helps if you're in a pinch. Can't think of a good appearance for your character? Make them on Sims. Introduced a new character, but don't know a good basic personality for them? Hit the randomize button in Create-A-Sims. Don't know what a character wants in life? Look at their wishes. Want to plan out your character's house for reference? Make it on Sims!
Sims 3 can be wonderful when used with writing. It sure helps me sometimes.
I do the same thing! I create Sims to match my characters (so much better with Sims 3) and if they are going to have a kid, I use whatever Sims comes up with to describe their appearance. It feels more realistic than deciding on how they would blend myself.
Otherwise, I like to create societies and see how they develop. On Sims 2, I started with 10 sims and ended up with a society of 280. Sims 3 makes that harder because the people either all age together or don't age when I want them to. Wish I could still isolate a house to age without the entire neighborhood aging.
Awesomemod from More Awesome Than You has Sims 2 aging as one of the options, although I don't use it myself. I still have The Sims 2 for those projects, although it goes mighty slow now.
Ditto!! I like to use Sims 2 to create my environments, like houses/rooms, etc. I find it to be a great visual tool!
I've yet to experience Sims 3, mostly because I don't think my computer can handle it. Plus, like someone else said, I've invested SOOOO much time, effort, and hard drive space to downloading custom content, I'd go mental if I had to do it all over again!
I like to make movies, though I've really only finished and posted one. If you're interested, here it is ;)
Oh, I love the Sims! I have only played the 3rd one, which I own, but it is incredibly addicting. I find I don't play the game as much as I design characters. One actually became the main protagonist in a novel I am writing with my boyfriend, which we are very close to finishing and possibly publishing! :3 I also love making houses. <3 Such a good game!
I'm so looking forward to the Sims 3 Pets! They've got HORSES AND CHINCHILLAS! How could anyone not be excited for it? It's marked on my calendar for Tuesday. I'm on a Sims obsession right now. :) Apparently the infamous Womrat returns and is vaccinated from the deadly Guinea Pig disease again. Can't wait!

I laughed aloud, while feeling slightly ashamed. Those poor pixelated souls!

Now I'm on The Sims 3 but I miss the Sims 2, I wanna kill my sims by codes again >

I find there is so much do to in Sims3 that time just gets away from me. Especially love designing my house.

I keep being drawn back to it after days of "rehab", I come up with something else and I want to make/create/play it

Sims 3 actually runs better on my PC than Sims 2 did. It's so so badly programmed.

I've always thought about doing that--basing a novel on the lives of the sims. I think it's awesome that you've actually done it!
