The Sims

I love The Sims. I have 1, 2 and 3 installed on my computer, although I don't play 1 at all. I'm getting to like Sims 3 more since they made it easier to use Custom Content, but I still love Sims 2.

I have also managed to adapt Sims 3 more to my style of play - which is to have a neighbourhood full of nothing but Anime and Gaming characters then watch to see what they get up to.

So what about the rest of you? How do you play your game?

Re: The Sims

Whenever I describe how I play Sims I always end up getting terrified looks from my friends and family. My current project in Sims 3 is a man who is going to max out every skill possible. He's going to become the best possible Sim. And then I'm trying to get a ghost of every colour as well as a wide selection of children to choose from to be his heir. So basically I'm having him kidnap random women (through the use of cheats), bring them home and have a baby with them (or triplets), and then kill them off in various ways and set up a graveyard in my front yard. The children I don't need get automatically aged up into teenagers (through cheats) in order to become slaves and do all the housework.

I do have some normal families though. But I haven't played in a while because I loaded the game one day and suddenly my 3 generation, celebrity, incredibly wealthy family all left the house, got in a taxi, and drove away, never to be seen again. My friend thinks they found out what I was doing with the other guy and fled from me in terror.

I love the Sims3! My friend got me hooked on it! I have gone through a few families. I currently have a 2 parent 6 kid family. They are mega wealth. I am LOVING Hidden Springs as a town, it has many different sized plots, different venues to buy. Really am enjoying it.

Re: The Sims

I've been playing Sims since the days of Sims 1! I had almost all the EPs for Sims 1 too. During the Sims 2 era, I owned all of those EPs. And now I am a fervent player of Sims 3, with all the EPs out so far. Sadly, I haven't played a whole lot lately, but when I do I love doing different sorts of challenges, especially legacies. I love playing a single family through the ages, marrying them off and making them have babies. Love teh babiez! XD

I love the Sims so much. I used to love Sims 2 but I've gone off it a bit since Sims 3 came out... the whole open neighbourhood thing makes it more appealing to me. Idk why.

I like telling stories on the Sims and making movies, although I'm yet to successfully complete anything -_-

I can't wait for Sims 3 Pets. The demo borked my game though :(

Addicted to Sims 3, mostly because for some reason my computer won't run any other versions... lol it barely runs 3. I'm also on Sims Social on Facebook. Kind of lame compared to the legit version, but it's nice for a quick Sims experience without getting sucked in for hours at a time (Please tell me I'm not the only one that happens to! I actually tend to go through phases where I don't play for a while because I do get sucked in and I won't have that much time to play at once.

I'm really looking forward to Pets, though. That was always my favorite expansion. Now I just have to see if I have the money for it after I get all my NaNo gear :D

I still play Sims 2 the most, actually xD I had so much custom content on it, that the whole game was tailored to exactly how I like it. I just don't have the energy to try and do that all over again for Sims 3.

I keep trying to do legacies, but get distracted too easily. I just like making and decorating tiny houses for couples (and then have all the furniture messed up when they have babies)

I have Sims 1 Complete Collection and Sims 2 with all expansion and stuff packs, but I haven't gotten 3. (It doesn't look that good to me, and the bug reports I've seen? Oof!)

I play heavily themed neighborhoods. I use almost no Maxis content in either game, and I hoard my Sims 1 downloads because most of the sites are long-since closed. (The last time I checked, Comhair, Persimmon Grove, and Parsimonious are still open, and I was able to get SimGoth stuff through the Internet Archive.) I do have a neighborhood for my novel series, which is non-modern. I also have a few other themes. The one theme I seem to be lacking is a normal, modern, realistic, mainstream neighborhood. (Too boring! Cannot play!)

Is anyone going to force their Sims 2 Sims to write a novel during NaNoWriMo? (SimNoWriMo?)

I check back and the site destroyed my post ):
Ah well, what that post was MEANT to say was this:
I love combining Sims with writing, as it really helps if you're in a pinch. Can't think of a good appearance for your character? Make them on Sims. Introduced a new character, but don't know a good basic personality for them? Hit the randomize button in Create-A-Sims. Don't know what a character wants in life? Look at their wishes. Want to plan out your character's house for reference? Make it on Sims!

Sims 3 can be wonderful when used with writing. It sure helps me sometimes.

I love Sims! I have 2 and 3, but I have all the expansions for 2 and only a few for 3 (some from doing a playtest @ EA. The benefits of living in the Silicon Valley). I switch between which one I play more often, because I love different things about both of them. I feel like I need to be able to combine my favorite aspects from both versions into one, shining example of perfection. Does anyone also have Medieval? I like it because its different...
As for the regular games, I usually play families normally. I focus a lot on skill building, and big families. Love big families. For some reason most of my players become novelists... Not sure how that happens ;) Also, I'm kinda ADD, so if I see go to a neighborhood and don't see anything special I want to do with a family, I'll just create a new one.

Usually I either play sims from way in the past or the future of my characters, so same locations, but different times. I tend to go onto bodyshop and try and make my actual characters though.

Re: The Sims

I loooove the Sims, but it gets kind of boring when I play alone...
My favorite is Sims 2 for the computer... But I still love all of the Sims for the PlayStation 2 (Except Castaway. I refuse to enjoy playing Castaway.)
I tried the Sims 3 a few times and just couldn't get into it. Eventually I plan on making the switch, but by then they might as well be selling Sims 4 (I'm always so behind anyway...)
I've played all of the expansion packs, I'm pretty sure... (Two separate computers, two different locations... Hard to keep track of which games are on which...) but I'm still missing a few stuff packs... :(
It's some sort of ultimate goal for me to put all of the games onto one computer, so I can play with all of the stuff... But the computer I have now would crash and fail miserably if I tried it...

I do sometimes just play following the normal rules of the game.. (Like the time that I wrote the story of Captain Hero... x_x) But usually I play the game with my best friend, and we just do horrible things to the Sims to amuse ourselves.
(Back on the PS2, we played to beat the games... But it's somewhat hard to define "winning" when you play on the computer.... And we also didn't know about cheat codes, so there was much less temptation and opportunity.)

Oooh, and I also sometimes enjoy watching the videos people make on YouTube with the Sims... Anyone else here enjoy that? Sometimes I can't get into the mood for that kind of stuff (they're generally weird...) but sometimes if I don't have time to actually play, watching a "movie" of it helps to curb the craving to waste time.

I'm hoping my Sims obsession won't interfere too much with my NaNo goal. I think maybe if I write first and reward myself with Sims play after, it might work out.

I got every expansion for every game as they came out all the way until Fast Lane Stuff with Sims 3. It's the first (and only) one I skipped because it seemed lame. Loving Pets so far, but I love the weather, werewolves, zombies, apartments and plant people of Sims 2. And I do still play Sims 1 actually. Magic Town is AWESOME!

The Sims is my guilty-pleasure-game. I grew up on it, and I have bought nearly every game they have ever released. I do love it, and sometimes it gets boring after a while (I notice I tend to go through phases of playing excessively, and then not at all). I told myself this year, that I needed to wean myself off it, since it was taking so much space up on my PC (needing OS HD expanded), and that they have enough of my money by now.

And then they released pets.

With horses.

THEY FOUND MY KRYPTONITE. D:

(Now, if only I had money that wasn't reserved for Skyrim ...)

Re: The Sims

I love Sims 1 and 2 about equally but for very different reasons. And I play them very differently too.

I was one of those Simgeeks who posted stories on the Sims 1 BBS. There was something about the cartoonish nature of TS1 Sims that made it easy for me to let go and just make up stories. Plus the sheer variety of objects from TS1 without the need for custom content really sparked my imagination.

As for Sims 2, I get so involved in their lives because of the way they look and live more like humans do. So I play them more as if they were real people.

In TS1, I'm a crazed serial killer. In TS2, I feel sick little pangs when I remember letting the Cow Plant eat even the most annoying Sims (like, say, uh, the stupid Cow Mascot)!

I loved building in TS1 but OMG!!! Building in TS2 is HEAVEN! I often spend more time building than playing. In fact, my first building uploaded to the TS2 site was given a trophy and made a featured asset. I built it just for myself. The only reason I even uploaded it was because I had asked my Simming friends for so many building tips and tricks, I thought it only fair they get to see the final product. I was going to take it down after a week or so. Imagine my surprise when the very next day, I get a message from a Maxoid stating they've made it a featured asset!

As far as using Sims for NaNo, in years past, each NaNo I planned to use it as a tool but never got around to it! I think for plotting, I would use Sims 1 because it is sooooo much easier to control TS1 Sims (just when I get a TS2 Sim positioned, they pull a funky face or look over their shoulder or some other nutty thing, even with Free Will off). Not only are TS1 Sims easier to control, the cheats used to block scenes are easier and far less risky than in TS2. But, as far as scene or building descriptions, TS2 would be the only way for me to go. I *still* need to go into TS2 and design last year's NaNo MC's bedroom just so I know how to describe it in the book. I can see it so clearly in my head, but have no idea how to put it into words. Once I've built it in TS2, I know I'll be able to verbally describe it.

As far as TS3... Uh, I would have been on board from the beginning but for the very creepy look of those Sims. To me, they are the exact blend of doll and human as to make them the stuff of nightmares. I just can't get past it. If they were more doll-like, fine. If they were more human-like, fine. But EA managed to get the exact blend that sends my psyche running into a corner, drooling and mumbling for help.

Sims Medieval looks awesome, but when EA started treating its loyal fan base like a bunch of pirating hooligans, and cranked out glitchy, system-crashing products on top of that, I vowed to never give them another cent. When I can find a used copy on eBay, I'll probably become addicted to that!

Like a lot of others here, it's feast or famine with me and the Sims. :) In TS2, I rely heavily on the Elixir of Life and try as hard as I can to give my Sims perfect lives. Even Sims I intend to torture from the start get to me and I develop a soft spot for them.

Does anyone have any of the other Sim games (SimCity, etc)? I have SimCity3000 but can't find a reliable user-guide. I can get my cities to a certain thriving point but then inexplicably, everything bottoms out and the citizens flee the city.

I also have Sid Meier's SimGolf. I was surprised to discover how much I love it. I have no interest in golf whatsoever, but I really love building up and playing the golf courses.

My friend has SimAnt!! It's circa 1990 or some crazy thing.

My sister and I are both insane Simmers! It all started when my cousin played the first one, then we got hooked when the second one came out, and then the Sims 3! I think the 3rd one is the best so far. I just recently got the Sims 3 Pets expansion pack and I'm loving it! I've got a main family who has a horse farm. Started out with a woman with a horse and a dog in a really small house, and now she's married and has six horses (one foal) and even a little kid! (And I only used a few cheats to buy the horse farm!)
I'll be a Simmer forever <3

Btw, so funny if you create all your nano characters as sims (in Sims 3) and then leave them alone for a while just so see how the game develops their story. Sudden marriages, deaths and other weird things!

I hoard my Sims 1 downloads because most of the sites are long-since closed.

Is anyone going to force their Sims 2 Sims to write a novel during NaNoWriMo? (SimNoWriMo?)
Oh, can we NaNoMail each other about your Sims 1 custom content? I've lost so much through all the computer swaps I've done.

As to SimNoWriMo? LOL I did that two years ago when I was playing a University challenge from my favorite Sims fan site (The Guid Morrow Club with old Sims 1 BBS heroes like MacBraveheart and Trollie and Loflyh). I'm usually a harsh task master as it is (it's rare a Sim that gets "Free Will" for long) but during this challenge, my domineering side came out with a vengeance. The entire school year was set to "Fall" (thank the Sim gods for Seasons) and each student was constantly kept in the gold or platinum so that they could use Energizers and Thinking Caps non-stop. :-P I had several of the students do "NaNo" and successfully complete it!
Re: The Sims

I do the same thing! I create Sims to match my characters (so much better with Sims 3) and if they are going to have a kid, I use whatever Sims comes up with to describe their appearance. It feels more realistic than deciding on how they would blend myself.

Otherwise, I like to create societies and see how they develop. On Sims 2, I started with 10 sims and ended up with a society of 280. Sims 3 makes that harder because the people either all age together or don't age when I want them to. Wish I could still isolate a house to age without the entire neighborhood aging.

I've yet to experience Sims 3, mostly because I don't think my computer can handle it. Plus, like someone else said, I've invested SOOOO much time, effort, and hard drive space to downloading custom content, I'd go mental if I had to do it all over again!

I like to make movies, though I've really only finished and posted one. If you're interested, here it is ;)

There is no shame in that. NO SHAME! I also skip the console ones. To me they don't really count. (Apologies to those that play, I feel you miss out on so much that way.)

Well, I have to admit the video card I've picked out to replace the dead one I choose partly because of how much better it will handle Pets hehe The other part of the reason is to support my artwork.
Does anyone have any of the other Sim games (SimCity, etc)? I have SimCity3000 but can't find a reliable user-guide. I can get my cities to a certain thriving point but then inexplicably, everything bottoms out and the citizens flee the city.
I don't know if it will help, but I found a website that has replacement user guides for many games. I went looking for a replacement for my sims 2 manual as I got the game used and it has *something* stuck to it and found the user guide on that site. I found a manual for SimCity 3000 Unlimited for download there.

This link should take you directly to the manual.

Thank you!!

They ask for a credit card to verify country. Have you had any troubles giving them your cc info? My cc company has really good security but I don't like risking it. :)

Thanks again!

I haven't had that come up. I've only downloaded the manuals I needed from there, definitely nothing that should require a credit card number. I wouldn't give them your credit card number for any reason if you don't need to. You don't need an account there to download anything. At least you shouldn't from my own experience, it doesn't appear to be needed.

Hope that helps.

That answers my question because it did require a credit card just to download the manual. I'll try again and see what happens. :)
