Um. I have no idea. I feel uneducated now. I only recently discovered and confirmed that I had synesthesia...so I'm still not quite educated. But like...I see shapes in my head that describe a word. "Confusion" for instance, is almost a paper clip shape, and it becomes animated when I seriously get confused. Veerrrryyy difficult to explain. Well, it's a speech where I can use props, so...I intend to start out and show some shapes or stuff and ask if the audience knows what they are. I'll then go back through the shapes and label them for what I see them as. And then I'll explain synesthia. And sometimes sounds and things in books get me. It's almost like the word or the word combination triggers a physical sensation. Like, the word 'explosion' triggers a red or orange visualisation. There's also the tendency to personify things. Like, I can't leave the last of anything in the box because what if it gets lonely and feels like no one wants it? (I'm not sure if that's just me, though since my mum does it too.) This is the group for me! I have it with words/letters/numbers as colors. Every time I look at writing I see it in all different colors. I look at a page of a book and it's all different colors. Mostly the colors of words are based off the color of the letter. For example, when I see the word "color" I see yellow because the letter "c" is yellow. But the o's are white, so it's a yellow-white when I pay more attention to it. Even now as I type all the words show up in different colors. Anybody else have this type? (0 is a blank to me, no personality, it's not alive.) For instance, 7 is a sneering, mean-spirited bully who likes to pick on smaller numbers. And 9 is just plain vicious. I really don't like 9. 1 and 4 are the weakest, meekest numbers. 1 is small and scared and extremely self-effacing, whereas 4 is just an absent-minded dreamer. 2 and 3 aren't strong, but they'll stand up for themselves even if the odds are against them -- especially 2, who can be quite fierce and protective of 1 and 4. Those are base personalities, but in a mult-digit number, how they feel depends on other numbers in close proximity. Take 2173 for instance. 7's right there next to 1, so 1 is nervous, but with 2 and 3 there it feels safer than it would be in 17. But 2163 is much more pleasant, because 2 and 3 are watching out, and 6 is completely benign. 1 can relax and even be happy. When I first started school I thought the personalities of numbers were apparent to everyone, but I quickly found out I was the only one. I shut up about it for decades. Have you ever wrote about a synesthetes character? I tried once but it was a bit difficult. I found out what synesthesia is when I was 17, until then I almost never thought about it and thought everyone had it. I don't know how to write a synesthetes without explaining what synesthesia is. For instance...I don't like 7, because 7 is a real brat. The only time 7 helps any of the other numbers in subtraction, addition, or multiplication 7 x 6. I...don't know why. I have occasionally had cases where I just couldn't stand to be around a person because their voice tasted bad. Fortunately most people have very bland voices. But there was this one guy who I knew in college whose voice tasted like rotten oatmeal... What music tastes like effects my musical tastes pretty strongly, and if there are vocals, the taste of the voice is especially important to me (most instruments taste at least OK as long as they aren't played really badly). Also, this leads to me accidentally saying things like "This person tastes good," when I mean that their voice tastes good. For some reason this always gets me weird looks. Heh. I was talking to someone about synesthesia where you see colours for sounds the other day. It's fascinating. I don't think I have synesthesia, since I don't visually see anything when I hear sounds, but I can hear colour in notes. I have perfect pitch and the way I recognize the pitches is by distinguishing the colour. Again, it doesn't really relate to any actual colour that I see, like B flats are not blue or anything, but I definitely hear them as their own weird colours. It's hard to explain haha. Anyways, lots of great composers had legit synesthesia, which is fascinating because I bet it made composing much different for them. I am grapheme -&gt; colour. Nearly all numbers and letters have a colour. I also get angry when people try and argue with my colours, even though I know that technically there is no 'right' colour. :) Also, certain songs have a colour and/or pattern, but not so often. For example, all Beyonce songs are golden.
