Well, here it is! The Forum thread I open each Nano. :D If you want to "do" Nano, but want to be among friends and acquaintances, this is the place! So reply to the thread, and finagle the "Subject" to make a new title for your reply. If you want to post within this thread it has to be as a reply. Otherwise you'll end up posting out there, in Nano-Land somewhere. LOL
I really hope so, because I have 3 more in the pipeline waiting! I reckon I have about another 20,000 words to go on this one and then I'll get stuck into the third. Oh my goodness, I'm getting giddy just at the prospect of moving on. lol.
I've done F2K before and am finishing it up this time around again, but - instead of being able to concentrate on the lessons, I keep coming up with stuff for Nano instead. Sigh! I have a really good idea, but don't want to use parts of it on the lessons because it would almost feel like cheating on Nano.
Greetings, thank you, and welcome right back to all of you.
Am I wrong, or was it just October First five minutes ago? Didn't we have a month to get organized? Today's the 15th, and half a month is far better than none. Today is the day I start mapping things out.... Last year was my first nano and I forgot to have my antagonist emerge clearly until the third act! Maybe it was a Mystery Fantasy? LOL!
What an excellent creative and learning experience this is. I'm very much looking forward to my second time up to bat, and I am thrilled to be in such good, merry, encouraging company!
Wishing you all well. However you choose to go through it: planner, pantser, or a combination, it's a life-changing experience finding out that you can do it. You can write! A lot!

Greetings to my fellow F2Kers. :) Great to have such an amazing support group as we all tackle 50,000 words. Last year, I was pretty isolated and didn't make it. This year, I think I have a rousing chance of success! :)
I've done 3Day Novel contest twice already, so this should be easy right? Then why do I feel so nervous? Excited, but nervous?
Thanks for setting this up again benning. The M-n-M truck should be arriving in your driveway soon. I can't wait to get started! This year I actually have an outline to follow. Impressed?
Wags- Cordy- passed away on Sept 28-so this is my first solo NaNo. It's all good, he was almost 15 years old, perfectly happy, went in his own time, had an amazingly fantastic life and he was in my arms. Anyway, it's good to be back!
Me too but I can get his book written for him-FINALLY! That's the plan at least. I even have an outline this time. A real one and everything. It's kind of freaking me out but I can always ditch it and pretend it never existed. But right now all I want to do is get started. I'm jumping at the gate this time.
I was happy to find out that I wouldn't need to track down the handful of buddies again. It's a good thing Linda put together that list back at F2K though.
All of mine are present and accounted for ... I think
Okay, it's only 914 words so far, but it's early. I expect to get a lot more done before work begins, this afternoon. So I updated my word count, and the Novel info. A bad synopsis, and a snippet from the start.
I did 420 words this morning in a half hour, but it is time for work now. Back at it tonight. Also, as luck would have it, my wife is leaving for a week starting tomorrow morning, so I hope to knock out half of my novel in the next week. Well, that's the plan anyway!

Okay, 600 or so, this morning. Now on to the coffee! LOL I have an early account - I head out at 11AM - and home by 4PM. And then I'll be back to the keyboard for more writing. :)
Scenes in my mind, dialogue in my ears ... yeah, I can do it. AND SO CAN YOU!!! :D
Hi. I'm trying to get adjusted to Nano. I see a place called Excerpt where we're supposed to put our writing. But it doesn't seem to be the place where we put our writing. I'm a little confused there. Where do we put our writing? Is it only at the end? And the excerpt is not that long. An excerpt isn't suppose to be that long, but since it was the only place I could put my writing, that's where I put it. Can someone direct me please? In this group, are we suppose to hit reply to the last person or if we want to start something new where do we go? You see? :) I'm a little lost in this thing. This is all new to me. I just read the post about cordy passing away. I'm so sorry. He's always going to be a memory kept because he was part of our writing crowd. :) Our companions are so precious. Abend and Matrix are still with me. And Abend's scar is invisible now. Best 3,000 I ever spent.
My dad passed away in August after on and off again illness. I'm still trying to get things back together. Day by day, right?
THANKS! And I am SO SORRY about your dad! Please let me know if there is Any way that I can help.
Trust me, His Highness is in FULL control of the writing of his book. Every time I sit down to write I know exactly where I'm going and how I'm going to get there and then something entirely different shows up on the screen. It's been a truly bizarre month. LOL
I was taking a break to look at Petfinder just now and we may be heading to Ontario for a visit. There's a rescue there that takes in dogs from the Northern Territory where bad things happen to them and I'm very intrigued about that. I'll know the boys when I see them but right now I'm thinking there might be a road trip in our near future.
The plan is to get the Land of Yay finished in the next five days and then take December off. Well off other than from my paid writing jobs and going puppy hunting, so I guess off from writing on LOY. Then in January, I'll start editing. My goal is to have it submission ready by the first part of March.
Wanna be a Beta reader? PLEASE? I'll bring it up to you and take you out for coffee or even a whole lunch. :-)
Give the furred ones a big hug and kiss from me and truly, if you need to talk or just have someone listen, I'm here.
Okay, I've uploaded my avatar, and "started" my novel. And right now it's merely an idea; something I expect to shoehorn into the same SF universe as "Flight of the Valkyrie" and "Space Pirate". We'll see how that goes, eh?
Ha ha, I have TWO words for my novel... "Goal... 50,000" :) It's going to be a slow process, but the ideas are solid. :D What the mind can conceive and believe, the body will achieve!

Hello Benning and a belated Happy Birthday from me to you.
Thanks again for bringing the F2K experience over to NaNo. I now have a bunch of writing buddies whom I have never met but who, nonetheless, have been most instrumental in my successfully completing the F2K classes.
Let's see if we can do the same for each other here.
Hi Von!!! I had a "gentle shove" getting me here. LOL, just kidding. I'm really going to attempt to complete it. If I do, great! If I don't that's okay too. At least I know I can say I gave it my all. I did not sign up for anything for the month of Nov. @ W.V.U. ~Malekia/Jess
@Canary--it will be wonderful to continue our writing friendships from F2K to Nano!
@Benning--I AM ready! I'm really excited about getting started on November first. I've probably planned more for this novel than any other I've worked on...hopefully that bodes well for this piece! (or, like in most cases, I may just throw my outline out the window as soon as I start writing! We'll see!)
Hey everyone! :) This is my second year and I have a plot just BEGGING to get out....I keep telling it...only 11 more days...whether it listens...I dunno.
Good thing too...my head feels like it's about to explode from the pressure! ;) *Grabs skull* FIVE MORE DAYS...Please have mercy! *pulls hair out* I'm a mini-boss for the Vancouver region of NaNo (called Vancowrimo) so I'll be regulating the IRC for there and holding word wars :)
I want to transition from there to here, but I always go there first and just hang around all day. Also i am not really a fan of the non-linear posting over here. It kind of makes it a chore to find the new posts. Anyone else having a bit of a time getting used to this?
While I am whining, when will my writing buddy list get sorted out? I know, I know it will be all good soon.
I am just chomping at the bit to get started and my sense of honor won't let me take a head start on the 'NoWri' part of NaNoWriMo.
I definitely like the posting format on F2K better. I did notice yesterday that they at least added a "my forum comments" tab under the forums. That's making it a little easier.
Hello to all my F2K friends. I was going to write my Arizona novel, but since I started some of it on F2K I guess I can't to it here. So, something new will have to be worked out, something dark and violent, with lots of action...hmmmm...
BW, just don't use what you've already worked on - written - there's much more to write, right? So pick up where you left off, or start at the beginning. :)
Well, to be honest, most of what I wrote in F2K would have to be scrapped anyway, I was trying to keep within the word count limits and what I wrote as 1500 words would have actually been 5,000-10,000 in the novel. There are only a couple of paragraphs that would remain untouched. maybe I'll just keep those out and rewrite the rest as I would actually like it to go. And of course, it is still just a small part of the whole. Thanks Benning; now I have two choces for nano and a week to pick one.
It's great to have you here Barry. Unless your novel in progress is actually finished, there's no reason that you can't continue writing on it. NaNoWriMo is an honor system challenge with yourself, and the prize is self satisfaction. As long as you know that you wrote 50K new words you will not have broken any rules. I don't expect to write a full novel in just 50K words. I do expect to write 50K words of my novel though. Plus much of my F2K work occurs in the middle of my novel, and I haven't written a word of what happened before or after anything that I submitted there.
Whatever you decide to do, I reiterate; It's great to have you here.
I have a half-completed outline and three chapters written. Of that I will keep a couple of paragraphs and toss the rest. It was written about six years ago and my style has progressed as have my ideas. As soon as I figure out what the rest of the outline is, I will have a roadmap of where I am at least going. F2K helped some in that area for sure.
There is no question in my mind that F2K helped me a great deal as a writer as well as preparing me to participate in this year's NaNoWriMo. How do you feel about novel writing software? I, for one, never really gave it a lot of thought but I did check out the sponser's forum and there are a couple of free trials there that look promising. Long story short, I downloaded Scrivener for Windows about a month ago and it really does a great job of organizing things with the least intrusive set of features. If you are working in Word only, it couldn't hurt to have a look at what these programs have to offer. I used to think that if a feather and an inkpot were good enough for Shakespeare and Dumas, then why not me. Now I think that they would have given anything for the conveniences of a word processor.
In the past I have used either Word or Movie Magic Screenwriter 2000. If I am just chugging something out, Word is fine, if I want to outline on cards Movie Magic works well. However, I also downloaded Scrivener for Windows and have worked my way through the tutorial. Seems interesting and it has a screenplay mode and holy crap, it is about 1/10th the price of Movie Magic. The import and export functions seem adequate and I usually have to create folders on my hard drive and in my favorites for reference material and it is nice that I can put all of that into the program instead.
I also looked at Pangurd because it is online and would allow access while not at home, but I think I will be doing most of my work at home, so not sure it is really needed.
I started an oultine years ago for my story in Movie Magic and will move that over to Scrivener this weekend and flesh it out a bit, OK, a whole lot.
So far I have told about 20 people that I am dong the NaNo; not one of them had ever heard of it.
I LOVE Scrivner. I've been working on the Beta's for the Windows version all year and I LOVE it! It's only going to be like $20 when it launches-if you win at NaNo and write the 50,000 words. Totally worth it and if there's something that you want, that it doesn't have yet, just drop the guys a note and they usually add it in for the next release.
Just in case you wanted an unbiased view. :-) Hi, I'm Juls.
I think I'm the only person not inspired/impressed with Scriviner that I know. I still fall back on Power Writer for creative projects. I only use Word for final formatting and writing web content - to me it's just too - something - business like, maybe. Did try out a new software called My Novel, not bad, but it doesn't have the features of Power Writer.
That said tho, if'n I win NaNo this year, I will probably take the Scrivener folks up on their half-price offer. Who knows, my style may someday mesh with it. :)
I was going to dust off my Final Draft software when I decided to give Scrivener a look also. I guess I could rail over the cost difference but at the time I made the investment in Final Draft 8, Scrivener was still a Mac only product that i had never heard of. I like Final Draft a lot for screenwriting, but Scrivener has really impressed with it's ability to work wee without getting in my way. It really is a bargain even at full price when compared FD8 or MM 2000; and I got even FD at a sizable discount through a screenwriting class I took.
Hey whatever's free to look at is worth looking at!
I haven't tried to move anything of mine into Scrivener yet, let us know how that works out for you.
The only people that know I am doing NaNo are here doing it with me.
I'm working on the second half of my book. I have highlighted what is already written in red so I know that any writing in black is new and will count towards my total. I think ideally they would like you to start something new, but to be honest I need the rush that NANO gives you to get the blessed thing finished. I wrote the first 50,000 last year, so here's hoping that I write the last 50,000 next month!
Greetings one and all (unless you have split personality disorder then you would be "two" and all.) I am her once again. This will be the second time for me and I don't even have an outline yet! You could call it "writing dangerously" perhaps, but like the pressure. Once I start writing though, there will be flames coming off this keyboard. I can't wait to read snippits from ya all, so in the immortal words of an immortal:" Let the Games begin!!!!"

P.S. I'm not sure if I can participate this year, but I'll definitely be here to cheer you all on to victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Hi Von!!! I had a "gentle shove" getting me here. LOL, just kidding. I'm really going to attempt to complete it. If I do, great! If I don't that's okay too. At least I know I can say I gave it my all. I did not sign up for anything for the month of Nov. @ W.V.U.

Von!
I hope you're feeling better, Von, and healing up nicely. :D
Great Mentoring, this session! :)

Hey all--thanks for the greetings!
@Janet--Hey there! Glad to see you over on Nano!
We'll see!)
WOW!
Look at all these writers! And more to come, too! Yeah! :D

Re: Pye!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Is anyone else going through F2K withdrawal?
I want to transition from there to here, but I always go there first and just hang around all day. Also i am not really a fan of the non-linear posting over here. It kind of makes it a chore to find the new posts.
Anyone else having a bit of a time getting used to this?
While I am whining, when will my writing buddy list get sorted out? I know, I know it will be all good soon.
I am just chomping at the bit to get started and my sense of honor won't let me take a head start on the 'NoWri' part of NaNoWriMo.
Benton
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Yes, I have withdrawal!
I'm getting antsy to start writing...
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Definitely going through withdrawal. I keep checking just to make sure there isn't a surprise seventh lesson...I'm obsessed. :P
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
I keep checking in too. Miss my Maddie pals!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Miss ya too!!! :) Sorry I had to leave so early. But, I'm still around.
~Lifs/Jess
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Yes, I'm in major withdrawal right now! That's why I'm here, looking for some sort of trouble to get into!!!
Michelle
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Hi Michelle, good luck with this. Does this mean you have another novel up your sleeve? :)
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
I definitely like the posting format on F2K better.
I did notice yesterday that they at least added a "my forum comments" tab under the forums.
That's making it a little easier.
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Jonesin' here.
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
... and we apparently cannot edit our own posts here either!
OK I'm through. Gonna go look for some cheese to go with my whine.
Benton
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
I bet there's some sort of time-limit on editing. But who knows? Maybe an "Edit" button will appear before the start. :)
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Hello all!
Canary!
Hi! :D
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Hello to all my F2K friends. I was going to write my Arizona novel, but since I started some of it on F2K I guess I can't to it here. So, something new will have to be worked out, something dark and violent, with lots of action...hmmmm...
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
BW, just don't use what you've already worked on - written - there's much more to write, right? So pick up where you left off, or start at the beginning. :)
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Benton
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Benton! Happy to have found you here.

Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Barry,
There is no question in my mind that F2K helped me a great deal as a writer as well as preparing me to participate in this year's NaNoWriMo.

Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Benton,
In the past I have used either Word or Movie Magic Screenwriter 2000.

Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
HI,
I LOVE Scrivner.

Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!

Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Barry,
I was going to dust off my Final Draft software when I decided to give Scrivener a look also.
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Brad!
Hi! Welcome!
Re: F2K/WVU Writers Rule!
Hi darbis!
No outline? I don't think i could do that.
