Any nerdfighters?

DFTBA anyone?

Well, I don't actually know where this kind of thread fits, I just hope I posted it in the right section.

Anyway, is anyone out there a NaNoWriMoer and a nerdfighter?

Heck yes Nerdfighters! When I saw John's vlog about NaNo last year (or was it the year before?), I almost fell out of my chair from excitement. We're not even going to talk about my reaction to getting his pep talk in my inbox. It's wonderful to see a successful (and my favourite!) author commending NaNoWriMo and its participants instead of criticizing the quantity > quality dilemma.

And Nate, I'd be happy to enlighten you. Nerdfighters are fans of Hank and John Green, two of the most awesome brothers ever.
Oh, I should also mention: I keep trying to figure out a way to write about the Evil Baby Orphanage for Nanowrimo, but haven't yet. I had a vague idea of the story centering around the Evil Babies as teenagers, when one of them stumbles across a confidential file and realizes they were born in another era; they then set out on a quest to discover just where they all came from, and why they're at the Orphanage. I thought they would all start out with ambiguous nicknames - for example, Liz (Elizabeth Bathory), Ace (Adolf Hitler), and J.C. (Jesus Christ... not that he's evil, but more people have died in religious wars than in the Holocaust, so I figured it would be a funny gag for him to end up there). I wish I could think of a good enough story arc to write it.

Huzzah, Nerdfighters!!! I can't remember when I first found the Vlogbrothers, or how, or why...but I've been a devoted Nerdfighter for a few years. :) Turned my one roomie into a Nerdfighter too, once I got addicted to the Vlogbrothers. Now we're both eagerly awaiting our TFIOS books, hoping for either a Hanklerfish or a Yeti (I'm not picky). Our other roomie tends to think we're nuts, but we don't care. She should be used to it by now!

Yay Nerdfighters!

I am a longtime fan of John's books, dating back to when I plucked a hardback of Looking For Alaska off the shelf of my B&N way back when it was first published. Yes, I have a first edition, first printing of LFA (that I got signed a few years later!). Don't worry, I keep it in a safe place. ;)

My husband and I started watching the Brotherhood 2.0 videos right from the beginning and have been known to sing the Helen Hunt song to each other.

Hoo-Haa, Nerfighters!

I'm a pretty new nerdfighter - I watched all of their videos a couple of months ago to get caught up, I've of course got my PIZZA John T-Shirt and my Esther bracelet and recently was browsing through the bookstore and found a Nerdfighter note. Made my day, that did. I've yet to read Looking For Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines - I know, I know, I'll get round to it! - but I read Paper Towns and loved it. Good luck Nerdfigheria.

Best wishes!

1. ...tough question. The most recent one I read was Will Grayson Will Grayson, which was really good (although I can't believe anyone was questioning which chapters John wrote... couldn't you hear his voice reading them?).
2. A Song About an Anglerfish, because it was the first one I heard. But I really like Strange Charm.

Fave John Green book? Either Looking for Alaska or Paper Towns, I can never decide.

Pizza John or Humpy Hank? I'm going to go with Pizza John.

I'm so glad there's a thread for Nerdfighters! Especially since Your Pants is (are?) still down...

1) Looking for Alaska
2) It's a 3-way tie between Strange Charm, Shake-a-Booty and A Song About an Anglerfish.
3) Hmm... probably Pizza John.

Hello everyone! I'm a veteran nerdfighter and thus-far a rubbish NaNoer, and glad to see you all!

If any of you are from the Boston area, 1. check out the Boston Nerdfighters facebook group and 2. be aware that I want to do Nerdfighter NaNo WriteIns!

Nerdfighters, want to share the premise of your novel? I just changed mine last minute (yet again) to this:
Nineteen year old Allie realizes that her entire life has been fabricated: she's actually an ancient goddess trapped in human form. As she begins to recognize members of her pantheon in everyday life, she must discover what put them there - and if immortality and endless power are really worth it after all.
My previous novel was going to use the Egyptian pantheon, but at this point, I'm wondering if I should change pantheons or create my own. Hmm. Decisions, decisions.

A friend actually introduced me to Vlogbrothers and I've made the valiant attempt to see every video. I've made it most of the way I think... up to after Henry was born. I will eventually finish. But I have a job and rent and things.

Sidenote: If I win NaNo I might just get myself the Keep Calm and DFTBA poster. :D

Another nerdfighter NaNoer checking in. I actually discovered secret sister Maureen before I discovered the vlogbrothers. And when I say "discovered", I mean "was instructed by my best friend that I needed to look at this bit of the internet right now".

Favourite John Green book is WGWG, but that might be partly influenced by the fact that John dedicated it to the aforementioned friend-who-introduced-me-to-vlogbrothers. Looking for Alaska comes second.
Hank song? Nerdfighterlike. It's a classic.
Definitely Pizza John over Humpy Hank. Humpy Hank is just too disturbing.

This thread is disappointingly quiet. Let's get the conversation going with a few post NaNo questions (assuming anyone is still out there).

1. Was this your first NaNo? What did you get out of this year's NaNo? Will you do it again next year? And now that it's over...what will you do?

2. How excited are you for the release of The Fault in Our Stars?

3. What is the one thing (or things) that turn you into a Giant Squid of Anger? Excluding that, what would you do given the chance to change the world in one way?

4. Pirates or ninjas?

My answers:

(are coming later)

I'm still here! Or here now anyway! But I don't think I really count as a nerdfighter because I am as of…um…somewhere in the past week.
This was my first NaNo. I wrote enough words, but didn't finish my story…and have failed to continue working on it by telling myself that I need a break (which I do) to get some sleep. I am very sleep-deprived. Still. I want to do it next year. I should keep working on it, but now I have about 910 videos to watch (870 now, perhaps? I most likely won't watch them all) and I want to finish doctor who…so yeah. This is me. Hi.

I'm still lurking around! I hope you're all having a lovely December!

To answer the questions...

1) Yep, first Nano! I did Camp Nano over the summer, but this was my first official NaNoWriMo. It was awesome! Although I've already decided to completely overhaul my story and start over. So I guess I'm spending December doing rewrites.
2) Oh jeez, SO excited. I even went and pre-ordered John's audio book. Kind of a consolation to myself since I won't be able tot go to the Tour de Nerdfighting =(
3) Close-minded people in general. Ah, there's so many things I wish I could do, but fixing California-- the budget, the University system, the funding for state parks and nonprofit organizations-- would be a big one.
4) Ninjas! Pirates get scurvy ;)

Oh, and I read An Abundance of Katherines and later Looking for Alaska because my family sat by John Green in an airplane once and my mom started talking to him (he had on earphones at takeoff) because she was scared of flying and likes to talk to strangers. So then we got to spend the whole flight talking to him. I think that ranks pretty high on the cool-encounters-with-strangers-in-airplanes meter.

Actually, my favorite thing written by John is his part in Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Favorite book by himself alone is still Looking for Alaska. I have high hopes for TFIOS to go on top of this list, though.

Song: Definitely Accio Deathly Hallows. Strange Charm is a close second.

Neither. I go for happy dance by both of them.

Question for everyone: What is your favorite NaNoWriMo song?

I've only heard two songs specifically about NaNo, but I love them both. All Caps' The NaNoWriMo Song and Errol's I Am the Very Model of a WriMo Individual. It would be totally awesome if there was a Hank Green NaNoWriMo song...

Tally (live2tivo) on YT has two awesome Nano songs:
"Nanowrimo Will Eat Your Soul" and "NanoWritis"

I definitely agree it would be awesome if Hank wrote a song about it as well. ^^

Personally, I like "War in Moon" as a anagram for NaNoWriMo - it could be a good title and/or basic plot for a scifi novel. I'm tempted to write it, and introduce the Anion Worm as some kind of monster... maybe next year.

Hi, and welcome to nerdfighteria! Same with me -- I haven't actually finished the draft, but I wrote 50k. I'm dedicating December to plot-planning and streamlining. Hm...might as well answer my own questions, since I've started.

1. This was my first NaNo, and I'm definitely doing it again next year.

2. Very excited. Like, counting-down-the-days excited.

3. When people act like opinion is fact without considering that others might not share their opinion. - I would revamp Massachusetts' education system, from kindergarten to college.

4. Pirates pwn. I cannot understand what people think is so cool about ninjas.

1. Yes. The almost done manuscript for my novel which, eventually I will send it in to a publishers. Hell yeah! Finish and edit my novel.

2. So excited! I have my ticket for Tour de Nerdfighting already!

3. Idiots. I live in a very small farming community, and there is a lot of incest around, so there are a lot of people that are so stupid.

4. Pirates, because of Chuck Norris ninja Vs. Chuck Norris Pirate. Pirate wins because Chuck norris is already a ninja
