Come Write In: Libraries

Come Write In! A Project of the Office of Letters and LightCome Write In, a NaNoWriMo initiative that encourages Wrimos to write in libraries during the month of November, is looking for participants!

What does this mean for you? Well, if you’re a Wrimo it means you’ll have a cozy library in your neighborhood where you can write your NaNo masterpiece! If you’re a library staff member, you’ll be able to welcome a whole bunch of avid readers and writers into your library.

Library staff can check out The Library Outreach Guide (or download a PDF). This will give you all of the details  about the program. In a nutshell, you’ll need to provide a space with a large table or desks, where Wrimos can come in during the month of November and work. You’ll also need to have lots of outlets so that everyone can plug in their laptops! You can set aside a space as frequently as you like during the month–every week or just once or twice–whatever works best for you!

If you’d like to participate in Come Write In 2011, great! We’d love to have you. Although we are no longer able to send out library kits for 2011, if you fill out this form, we’ll add you to the list of participating libraries, and you’ll be the first to know about the 2012 Come Write In kits!

If you represent a school library, or want to facilitate NaNoWriMo with young participants at your local library, check out the Young Writers Program! Sign up as an educator to receive information on ordering a free classroom kit (featuring a progress chart, stickers, and buttons).

Your region may have a Municipal Liaison, a volunteer dedicated to organizing events in your area and monitoring your regional forum. To find out if there’s a Municipal Liaison (ML) near you, see the list here. They’ll appreciate hearing from you, and it may be the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership. As partners, you might coordinate events, share write-in space, and/or have your events listed on your region’s official calendar.
