- I'll be honest--I don't read as much as I should. But I enjoyed Crighton's Sphere, Bujold's The Hallowed Hunt, Mckinley's Sunshine and Scalzi's Agent to the Stars, to give an idea of tastes.

I enjoy a wide variety of speculative fiction categories as well as thrillers and some historical stuff. I do like some 'second earth' fantasy stories too, but I'm picky here and generally tend to avoid sweeping multi-volume fantasy epics, particularly sword&sorcery&dragons. I dunno--maybe I've been burned by browsing too many amateur works of this type. But hey, if something is well written and flows, I'll enjoy it even if it is full of common tropes.
When I write I tend toward science fiction or contemporary fantasies. I want to polish some ideas I have into submittable novels, but making them long enough has been a problem since my first drafts tend to top out around 40-50k. So I'm currently trying to learn the art of the well-crafted sub-plot to help bulk things up.
