CTR =D
Hi, I'm Jamie Crick. I'm a freelance writer, an artist, an archer, a cellist, a costume designer, a photographer, a homeschooler, a reader, a mushroom hunter, a forager, I don't believe in writer's block, and I'm a Mormon.
That was the short version.
WRITING --WHY ELSE WOULD I BE HERE?
I've been reading and writing for as long as--well my parents tell me I could read when I was three, but I started writing when I was eight. I've been freelancing for the past year, but have yet to even attempt at selling a novel. I don't believe in writer's block. Sure, you may get stumped on an idea or a word, but writer's block is a pathetic excuse not to keep writing.
HOMESCHOOLING RULES!
I have been home schooled all my life, and what it has taught me is that you can't judge people for being different and that if you set your mind to it, you can teach yourself anything. I will have to be a part the public school system next year, though, since I'm going to early collage to get my associate's degree.
CELLO? WHAT'S THAT A BIG VIOLIN?
I play cello in the Seattle Youth Symphony, which is actually the largest, most competitive youth symphony in the U.S. I'm currently learning the Haydn Concerto in C. It's one of my favorite pieces of music --especially when Rostropovich plays it. I would feel awful if I didn't include in here, that I love my teacher. She's one of those teacher's that you can also call a friend.
ART! YAY!
I have also been drawing ever since I could clutch a crayon and now specialize in portraits. I like realistic art and absolutely detest abstract art in most forms, though some of it is actually quite interesting. My favorite media's to work with are acrylic paints, charcoals, colored pencils and inks. Aside from the portraits and landscapes, I like to draw comics (clear line style). I also like to create steampunk art out of clock parts, old shoes and any other junk I can get my hands on.
YOU MAY ASK ABOUT THE FORAGING
Foraging is basically the act of finding, identifying and eating wild plants and I've been doing it since I was 9. My backyard is a wetland --which means that if you know what to look for, there is an abundance of edible plants/roots growing around every turn. I know enough about wild plants that my mom (who is generally very cautious about things like this) will eat anything I give her --except Stinging Nettle, which I haven't yet convinced anyone but myself to eat...
ARCHERY
Here, I prefer a good recurve bow. I can hit a standing target thirty-five feet away, although I'm less accurate with moving targets. My grandfather is an expert bow maker. He taught me how to make them, but with all the wood lamination and careful bending of the wood involved, I gave up trying and convinced him to give me one of his bows that he doesn't use anymore.
I DON'T BELIEVE IN WRITER'S BLOCK
Shocking, I know. I don't believe in writer's block. The day that I told myself it didn't exist, was the last day I ever experienced it. (Come to think of it, I never experienced it before I told myself it existed ether). I think it's just your brain making excuses not to write. It's not writer's block, but writer's boredom --and we all know what happens when a writer gets bored of their own story. You guessed it, so does the reader.
COSTUME DESIGN?
Making and designing costumes is one of my favorite things to do --year round. I just wish there were more costume parties. Yes, if you asked me what my favorite holiday was, I could honestly say Halloween. Who cares about the candy; it's the costumes that I like.
I'M A MORMON
Yes, I am a mormon and to be honest, I couldn't be more proud to be one. I attend seminary and love Scripture Mastery. My favorite holiday (I consider it one) is general conference --best two weekends of the year.
