Synopsis

In the summer of 1998, a teenaged girl goes missing in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. She’s never found. The tragedy shakes the small town of Feather River, but none are as affected as the three friends who saw her last, because Meg Danner, Silas Matheson, and Danny Cairns cannot tell the authorities everything they know. Within the course of only a few short days, their close friendship unravels as guilt, misunderstanding, and fear war with their desire to reveal secrets they’ve kept hidden even from each other. Their lives irrevocably changed, Silas leaves town abruptly, leaving Meg and Danny to move on without him.

Ten years later, they’re both Search and Rescue volunteers in the same small town when Silas returns, bringing with him his two young sons and plans to make a new life for himself at the mountain lodge of their youth. When the children become lost in the same wilderness, they embark on an intense three day search for the boys during which they’re forced to confront the truth of their shared past while evading the increasingly acute questions of the local county sheriff, still trying to solve the mystery of ten years prior.

As they race against time and the harsh elements of an early Sierra Nevada winter, Meg, Silas, and Danny realize that to solve one mystery may mean finally coming to terms with another. As their history begins to interweave with the present, it impacts not only their fragile relationship, but the children they are currently struggling to save.
