Synopsis

In the war between the Industrial Government and the Psychs, life goes on as normal for those who are normal. For those born with psychic abilities, the choice is simple: stay in society and accept persecution, or become an outcast and fight for freedom.

Excerpt

Before he could worry about what was about to happen, a woman in a white coat shoved him down into one of the chairs and pushed a needle into the small metal syringe port at his elbow. He was struck with the sudden, and now all too familiar, sensation of the liquid spreading, flowing around his body.

Though... it wasn’t the same as it had been for the last few weeks. It wasn’t accompanied by the feeling of his mind suffocating - maybe it was a lower dose than normal. Then the woman placed a little metal disc on his temple, and a matching one on her own.

It happened immediately. A total loss of control. He could see, hear, and sense thoughts, but he was completely disconnected from his brain - locked in with no power to even move his hand. There was another mind at the edge of his, latched on like a parasite, and as that mind thought for him to lift his right arm, his arm raised itself. The mind then decided that he would scan the guard, and he suddenly knew that the man was thinking about how soon he could be transferred back to Earth.

Jace screamed. He screamed, flailed, and cried. But nothing happened.
