I cut my writing teeth on fanfiction and I even managed to finish a few that weren't utterly horrible.
Just finished my sixth time doing NaNoWriMo making me six for six so far, all put down to sheer stubbornness and my normal panic of approaching deadline, well it worked every time I had to hand in coursework....

Previous NaNoWriMo efforts include:
2005: Sequence Book 1: Start of the saga in which the MC is a wilful teen who discovers not all "facts" are entirely true and assumptions can be dangerous and even fatal.
2006: Fusion fanfic Very strange AU crossover type thing that worked quite well until I hit the 50k and gave up.
2007: Sequence Book 2: 10 years later the MC has left home, got married and gets a new job.
2008: Sequence Book 3 take 1: picking up just after part 2 the MC then reminisces about an event in his youth and the author gets stuck filling in back story for the next 45,000 words thus making this more book 1.5 than book 3.
2009: Sequence Book 3 take 2: In which the MC behaved just well enough to avoid being killed in long and painful ways out of sheer frustration when the author attempted to move the story along.
2010: Bleeding to Life NYPD cop discovers the supernatural do exist and her whole life gets a lot more complicated.
2011: Sequence Book 4 Picks up after the prison riot. War ends the camp and MC has to decided to do what he is told or do what he wants and knows is right and writer has to decide what to do with the wife as she is seriously becoming unhinged. me feels a nice looooonnnnng death scene coming on.....
Future efforts: Who knows maybe I'll run all the plots together and have a mass extinction event for characters who will not behave.
