After many attempts, it became clear to me that I can't write on computers- too many distractions. Give me a wide-rule notebook and funky colored pens and I can scribble for hours. I do my best work while either extremely caffeinated (or while working my way through a bottle of wine).
I have three cats that think writing means paying attention to them (which is frequently true), and a husband who kindly listens to my rants about misbehaving characters, plots, and my own attention span.
I read. A lot. I tend towards the historical fiction and fantasy spectrum, but I'm pretty willing to give any book a solid try. I'm learning that it's okay to give up on a book I hate. I'm also a huge fan of LibraryThing and Goodreads and their programs to give away ARCs... it's a good way to get my fix in cheap(er).
